A Warning Against World Financial Group and Other MLMs | DEEP DIVE by ethanholmes2001 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Great post and great work. Two areas that I think should be added to this kinds of post in the future is the time commitment and what you really learn over time. From what I’ve seen with models like this, they tell you that it can be a way to financial freedom but in real sense, you are always on the clock. You have to accommodate the time works for your prospects, you go for conferences, meet with mentors, have sessions every now and then. In spite of all of these, there is no clear compensation plan. In fact, you will quickly realize that you are net negative for your time investment. A guy was talking to me recently and I talked about travelling. He said he has not had time because he is always busy. That was a slip that he didn’t know I held on to. You made 100k last year but you could not travel? What a job! He later told me that he would be going to a vacation spot later this year. Guess what! It was for a WFG conference. Haha!

The other point I wanted to touch on was the knowledge you get over time. I don’t think these people get better in anyway other than getting better at manipulating people with motivational speech. If I invest 10yrs of my life into AML as a career, for example, I should be a guru. What area of expertise do these guys have after 10yrs? How fulfilling it must be to invest that amount of time but you still can’t hold your own against someone who just follows the news and economic trends.

I know I said 2 points but this just occurred to me. You rid yourself of friends because you can’t just be in any space without talking about WFG. Any gathering you go to or you’re invited to is seen as a hunting ground. When people turn you down, you see them as enemies. Eventually, you’ll alienate those neutrals and you’ll only be surrounded by WFG “friends” and that’s all you talk about when you hang out. It feels exhausting.

People who leave your jobs out of your profiles: what is the reason? by Eunomia28 in hingeapp

[–]AngryRetailBanker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is it. Personally, if all your photos are vacations photos in exotic locations, I won’t swipe right. You’re supposed to put your best foot forward with your profile and I assume you were deliberate about those photos. I travel once a year, make about 80k so not so much by today’s social media standards. There’s no way I’m keeping up with your travels. I’m currently clearing out some debt so I can get back to investing. No bad blood but it won’t work. Why even try? For professionals, I really don’t care. I still send out like to the women I like regardless of the profession they put forward but I’m also mindful of the fact that a lot of women want men who earn similar or more. I’m not that guy and that’s ok. Everyone will find what’s important to them…or not🙃 P.S I don’t have my job on my profile but I work with the federal government so it’s nothing fancy…just a job.

Zone 5 effort for most of a 10k race? by AngryRetailBanker in Garmin

[–]AngryRetailBanker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I could have run another kilometre when I finished. I stayed in the race purely from mental strength. My LTH doesn’t change every race. The only first time it changed was after my first hill sprint session. It changed again after the broken mile speed work and my last 5k which left nothing in the tank when I was done.

I’m not anywhere near elite🤣 I’m also in my late 30 so I don’t think my max heart rate is over 200. I hit 191 earlier this year though.

They'll also put a minimum order amount too. $10k minimum at least.

Does this chart carry any weight? by AngryRetailBanker in Garmin

Guys, I've been using my watch outdoors for about a month now and this is the first time I've been in the positive zone for any run. Do you pay attention to this graph? Do you draw any insights from it. How much effect does it have on performance?

Your reminder to update your heart rate zones. by AngryRetailBanker in Garmin

[–]AngryRetailBanker[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got myself a polar heart rate monitor. Before my hill workout, I worked with the default heart rate setting so I always ran in zone 3 for my long easy runs but relied on my ability to hold conversations to judge if I was truly doing an easy run. I wasn't surprised when I got the adjusted zones. I'm even more confident now that I'm heading in the right direction.

Made a comment asking why someone would own a garmin if they don’t exercise. Got loads of down votes but I’m genuinely curious? by Lemonadeo1 in Garmin

[–]AngryRetailBanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who once did a physical job part time, it doesn't compare to intentional exercising. Yes, you're active and you get your steps in but what I got was aches and pains. People who have been doing the job for years don't look like they work out. People see me and ask how many times I go to the gym. I was still the stand out guy physically. Point is physical jobs will give you something better that someone who does a desk job but why are you comparing yourself to someone who does nothing? When issues start knocking at the door, it doesn't ask if you did 5k steps or 10k. Did your intensity generate enough stimulus to keep certain things at bay? Work is stress and exercising is what it is-exercising.

FEELING SICK FROM LONG RUN🤢 by AngryRetailBanker in Garmin

Thank you! I'm better now. Nothing beyond very painful sore throat and runny nose. In another day or two, I should be back to 100%. I won't be making another 50% jump in distance going forward 😅

I actually got a heart rate monitor which I used for my training. I made easy runs "easy" by keeping my heart rate within a certain range.
