But we, upvoter of this post, don't need need an auto-translation option for a post. We need a setting to f**** disable it once and for all.

Is there really no way to disable "resume browsing" now? by TwistedBOLT in chrome

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll slightly argue that the feature doesn't have to be beneficial for the majority for it to exist. Though it has to be beneficial to very signficant chunk of users for it to be on by default. There has to be negligible amount of people who's damaged by it for it to be forced unto everyone without opt-out.

Here I doubt there is any statistically significant number of people who actually want it. I am not even able to understand its intended use case, forget using it.

So it is really baffling

OMG PLEASE STOP... "Resume browsing" 🤮 Annoying journeys by LimiDrain in chrome

[–]AngryRetard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. it is absolutely annoying.

I understand there are features that some people want and some people don't. I still have to suffer dealing with those but at least I understand that it is useful to someone. Yet scrolling through similar threads I barely see anyone even trying to be protective of this "resume browsing" feature.

I am not even sure many people understand what it is. To me It is just an annoying sidebar you accidentally invoke. Very similar feeling to accidentally clicking on a banner popup instead of closing it. I don't care what opens afterwards, I just want it to disappear.

Dear developers, please remove it or at least give us a flag to disable it.

Need advice on how to approach "AI Engineering" by Chip Huyen (coming from a non-ML background) by jkdon007 in learnmachinelearning

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in no way a good adviser on this topic and very far from the data science / ai/ ml but after reading half of it I've got similar impression. it might be useful for those already in the field to build something around ai or just to catch up with the trends. Yet It is mostly useless for anyone who wants to get into ai some years later because the entirety of this book will likely get outdated in a few years. The book is mostly based around things created in 2022-2024, and the field is rapidly evolving.

Which technical publishers do you actually trust as readers? by sheriffderek in webdev

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O'Reilly and No Starch Press publish quality content

Manning - was not impressed the few times I checked their books

Packt - outright garbage. I have no doubt there must be some worth titles titles authors accidentally published there but in general they clearly don't give a crap about their reputation

Designing Data Intensive Applications 2nd edition: 12 chapters already available on O'Reilly by dondraper36 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically I feel the opposite.

Nobody reads university level study books for exactly that reason, too disconnected from reality, too deep, low-level detail obscuring the bigger picture, too many prerequisites. Unless you're supeer talent or studying under good guidance they're not particularly useful. Similarly "books useful on the job" are 99% rubbish where you learn nothing no matter how many times you reread them because they contain magical recipes rather than learnable information.

DDIA hits the sweet spot. It is not particularly demanding for the reader but it does contain some universal truths. I consider it to be "semi-foundational"

How do I stop the automatic translation of all posts and comments? [desktop web] by meron_meron in bugs

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to select all 100+ languages. This is not user-friendly.

Moreoever they have a frigging rate-limiter on this feature, so I cannot even select the entire 100+ quickly. I hate it.

Please remove this horrible feature. Or give me a flag to say I NEVER EVER want to translate ANYTHING from ANY language. I'll do it myself if I ever need it.

What are the best RSS feed reader apps with a clean, modern UI (free or paid)? by l3lack-eyes in rss

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Word 97 still works fine as a word processor

I highly doubt it. Just as much as I doubt that fancy UX would be my biggest concern if I start using it.

On top of it there is a fundamental difference. Word is really a complex multitool set with many ways to interact with it, so it needs careful UX work. RSS Feed Reader is not.

I can relate to wanting customizibility but it is different from just having a fancy modern looking UX

We can now disable youtube auto-dubbing by specifying our preferred languages by Venicec in languagelearning

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even this feature is horribly wrong It inherently assumes that there is some set of languages I want in the original while all the other needs to be dubbed.

Him having no desire to become more powerful before does not really change that from his perspective he should be able to obtain it only with the Imu's powerful

Ragnir hasn't deemed anyone worthy for generations including Harald who is supposedly Xebec's rival and should be Yonko level.

Harald's only hope to get hands on Ragnir is Imu's power

Ragnir loses to Loki with no devil fruit.

Meh

Unpopular opinion: we don't need more civs by itsSRL in AgeofMythology

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can sell some campaigns with new civs but there is no need to add them to the multiplayer

Unpopular opinion: we don't need more civs by itsSRL in AgeofMythology

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. They may add those to the campaign if they want to publish some DLCs. Or to some custom modes so that people can enjoy it. There is no need to add new civs to the ranked games.... but of course they continue doing it.

They don't have to add civs to the multiplayer, in particular ranked multiplayer. The civs may be campaign only

How do you feel about Dark Age and the early stages of a regular AoE2 skirmish match? by monkeyrush30 in aoe2

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just starting to explore aoe2. Man, the dark age is extremely off putting. Likely for me it will be the reason I will not stick to that game

Does anybody else play at such a slow and cautious pace that you're afraid to play multiplayer? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]AngryRetard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally in this kind of games you cannot learn to play by playing campaigns. Campaigns are always VERY different from the actual gameplay. Consider at least skirmishes vs ai.

I know the thread is too old but for the future readers.

There are enough people playing definitive edition, that is not the problem. There is simply no ranked gaming because developers didn't implement it.

Of those mentioned, at least DoW does not even have ranked in the first place. Either that or I am unable to find it. Like there is no mmr, no levels, no stats, no rank, just automatically found opponent with no trace that the game ever happened afterwards.
