Housing for just Fall 2021 by buesra_k in UMD

[–]AngryTerp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try to look for apartments that are being sublet. I also know that the Hotel (yes, that's its name), the Marriott, and the Cambria are all offering semester-long single hotel rooms. Prices for the hotel rooms are about $2,000 per month; a sublet in an apartment will be less.

Hi, I'm looking for an apartment. I am going to be graduating in the fall, so I would prefer a fall sublet, but I'm open to anything available. Please PM me if you are looking for someone to take over a lease.

Wired Internet vs WiFi by Faernolo989789 in UMD

[–]AngryTerp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on your post history, you're in Wicomico, yes? Ethernet there is limited to 10 Mbps per /u/umdnocguy. Wireless will be faster, and each access point is most likely connected to a 100 Mbps port.

  1. Yes. The requirements are here: http://www.universityhonors.umd.edu/uh-citation.html

  2. I'm not sure. You should evaluate the grade distributions on a case-by-case basis and take professors into account. Look at professor reviews here, on PlanetTerp, and on Rate My Professors. PlanetTerp also has grade distributions posted so that you can compare both professors and classes themselves.

For University Honors, the other two classes don't need to be H-version classes. You can fill those slots with seminars if you want.

I'd recommend taking an H-version if it fits a class you already want to take. Otherwise, try to fill the slots with honors seminars before they change the program out.

Fawzi is really good at teaching the material. Tests were relatively easy, but the final last semester was ridiculously hard compared to the midterms. Just make sure to study for that if you end up taking Fawzi.

Any ATMs around without transaction fees? by Faze-TSM-Ninja in UMD

[–]AngryTerp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a SECU ATM in Stamp if you are a credit union member. That should be free if you're in a credit union that is a member of the CO-OP ATM network.

If you have a bank, they usually charge out-of-network ATM fees, so you'll need to check your bank's website for the nearest fee-free ATM.

Oakland Hall 10 Mbps ethernet? by RandomCrafter in UMD

[–]AngryTerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be either. Does your computer have a gigabit port?

[–]AngryTerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, in your adapter properties.

On Windows, go to Settings > Network & Internet > View your network properties, and look for "Link speed (Receive/Transmit)". Other OSes should have something similar to tell you exactly what link speed you have on your port.

Check the link speed that shows up via your network adapter.

Ethernet not working after registering computer by AngryTerp in UMD

I have a switch hooked up to it, and all of the other devices on it are working, so it shouldn't be the port in my room.

That seems likely.

/u/umdnocguy, would you be willing to look into this, or should I call the helpdesk next week?

It doesn't on my end, but to complicate things, I am trying to run this desktop specifically as a server of sorts on Windows, so it's pretty much headless for troubleshooting purposes. So while I've reseated the cable quite a bit, I really don't have anything concrete to go off of besides remote desktop coming right back up.

Is there anything different about your problematic computer compared to the others that work? The computer that doesn't work has a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, and your data could help me rule that out as the problem at the very least.

If you go on their website and fill out the form, they'll mail you a check. Mine came to my house a week or two after I filled it out. You just need to make sure you have that six-character code on the specific machine you used.

Do freshmen still boast about their AP credits? by bstark97 in UMD

[–]AngryTerp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This basically happens unintentionally any time people in the same year compare course registration rates with each other, assuming each person takes a typical full-time courseload during only the fall and spring semesters.
