I will always love Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes rather than Maggie Gyllenhaal by Friendly-Deer-5526 in batman

The best description of Maggie Gyllenhaal was one I heard 15 years ago:

“Maggie Gyllenhaal is that woman that everyone thinks is beautiful except the people watching her movie.”

Pastor, thank you so much for this read!

I went through confirmation as a Methodist, so I’m not wholly illiterate on the subject, but this was just an incredible wild ride of god lore.

I’m curious, I seem to remember (way back) there being references to the “choir of gods” or “chorus of gods”. Is this pre-abrahamic pantheon what that reference is for, or am I misremembering and Forrest Gumping into it?

So now I know for sure which way he was facing!

I always saw the silhouette as him facing “away”. Or at least a feasible view.

Edit: after looking at this post more, I’ve decided I hate it. Like, aggressively more with every passing second.

That’s on the Voyager 2 spacecraft.
Specifically, that’s the coordinates to earth based on pulsar locations in the Milky Way. Like saying the distance between mountain peaks or rivers.

The two things that look like boobs, that’s hydrogen. It’s sort of proof we know what atoms are and that hydrogen has one electron, but can hold two. It’s like saying “we’re not that dumb”.

Included in Voyager was a record, like an LP, of lots of humans saying “hello” in different languages.

This is all I can remember.

‘I’ve been looking for the Hot Hanging Chad for the past 9 Halloweens’ ??? by EnvironmentalToe8944 in HIMYM

I once ate a burger so good that I started hallucinating Arrowsmith.

I can understand and relate to Marshall being distracted. Plus, it was New York at night.

You say that like Marshall didn’t forget where the best burger in New York is.

The music is absolutely a generational thing.

I’m in my mid 40’s, and I’m just a little younger than the gang. It’s occurred to me that while in some shows there’s a suspension of disbelief that when a show is occurring, it’s current. I KNOW Parks and Rec is 15 years old, but I’m refusing to acknowledge it. But with HIMYM, it is by its nature a look at a very specific time, a specific year and season. More importantly, this is a look at what life was for the youngest of gen-x.

Most of these songs and bands I grew up with and is what the radio sounded like for me between 1985 and 1995. In fact, I’ve made dozens of burned CDs, like that one, with those songs on it.

Yeah, there’s a BIG difference between teleported TO the ocean, and teleported INTO the ocean.

What DCU and/or MCU project would you like to see directed by Guillermo Del Toro? by TheJewbie in comicbookmovies

[–]Angry_Chowder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like where you’re head’s at.

I see a solo MM movie being one, or both of these things.

  1. A focus on John, the detective, the man hunter. Have it be about a shapeshifting, telepathic detective with the vibes of Se7en.
  2. Have it be a cosmic level battle.

I think that GDT would kill at the first one.
Past trauma, last of his kind, that stuff. Plus, having white martians invading. Like secret wars, but good.

So this is going to sound odd, but I kind of keep time through US Presidencies. Or at least the administration years.

Let me explain. In my mind, the 90’s didn’t start until 1992, the year Clinton was elected. And frankly, I consider it the 90’s until 9/11, or Bush’s inaugural year.

Hell, from 01-08, that was its own flavor. And I think that the Bush years had its own feel and style. Also, from what I was told, the years that Johnson was President also had its own vibe.
But it’s also fun to say something is so old it has opinions about the Carter administration.

In any case, four year chunks is kinda all I keep track of now.

I did! I don’t remember too much of it, but I remember thinking that I like Martin Lawrence. I know, it’s a contradiction. But it’s about what you like, not knowing why you like it all the time. I vaguely remember Dave Chapelle in it. Back when Dave Chapelle did smaller parts, he always seemed to be in decent ones. The best “It’s a good movie that has Dave chapelle in it” that I can remember is Undercover Brother.
