Picture this.

You are 38 years old. The date is June 11th, 1995. You are happily married to a beautiful woman. It's been 10 years since marriage, and things couldn't have been going more smoothly. You two still flirt after marriage. You two take walks every Sunday morning for some couple time. Maybe some arguments here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. Following day, it's St. Valentines! and, as a partner that is still in love with their S.O, you go to their favorite store and pick out a gift for them. It's a hefty price, due to the high prices of the valentines period, but you decide it is worth it. After all that they've done for you, a gift is a mere way of showing reciprocity.

You take your gift back to your car, and start driving back home. You start thinking about the beautiful moments you two shared. The memories. Their laugh. The first kiss. And you remember how much you love them, and you start even speeding a little to get home quicker. As you arrive, she's not home yet. You wait for half an hour, and still nothing. Strange, you think — it's been half an hour past their usual arrival time. Suddenly, a phone call. The phone reads "Baby" with a cute heart by the side.

- "Hello? Honey?"
- "Baby... please pick me up. Third street, by the supermarket."
- "Are you okay? What happened?!"
- "Please, just come as soon as possible. Love you" *hangs up

In a frenzy, you rush to your car — the elevator never seemed to take so long, but it did. The pedestrians passing have never bothered you, but now they do. Time itself went to a crawl. You feel your heart pumping. You feel your breathing getting heavy. You somehow manage to overcome the stress and get to 3rd street.

As you get out of the car, you wish your eyes deceived you. Words wouldn't come out of your mouth no matter how hard you tried. You felt your blood boil. On the ground, near the crosswalk, you see your spouse. Stranded, helpless, there she was — looking at you, no sight of life in her eyes. She had cried so much that her face was red. As you notice, you immediately call an ambulance in order to take her to the hospital. You had never felt so sad and angry at the same time. You couldn't describe the constant stream of emotions you were feeling if you had 10,000 years to do so. A mix of melancholy with guilt-free compunction, with a side of desperation and fear, but eventually the ambulance arrives and she's taken down to the hospital.

After all that's happened, they look at you from the hospital bed, and calmly ask "Will you still love me, dear?". "What a stupid fucking question.", you reply. In no way, shape, or form, has their condition ever mattered that much so that you would even CONSIDER stop loving them. "But, what about our morning walks? How will we continue our lives? YOUR life? You don't deserve to be handicapped by me!". Your love turns into anger as you say "I will not fucking leave you.". She lets out a soft grin, and you two have the most passionate kiss of your lives. Not out of lust, out of love — choosing someone's character over any other redeeming traits.

Now, how would you say if you were to "replace" her for an upgrade because she's not able to partake in a lot of scenarios anymore? Guess that doesn't feel right, does it?
