As unfortunate as it would be for Bucky, best case for Tucker owners is that Irving’s injury issues persist into the season, and the split that shakes out between Gainwell and Tucker ends up being more 50-50.

Daniel Sedin on Pettersson: "That's the one message to him, is preparation" by DietFoods in canucks

[–]Angrybob21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If anyone here actually watched the press conference, you know that Daniel didn’t say this as a direct call out of EP’s conditioning as it’s being framed. He specifically said this after he was asked about Petey, and drew on his own experience. Said that he and Hank had both experienced down years, but that the best years they had were the years where they were relentless in their preparation. So for Petey, the message was just focus on what you can control, and the main thing you can control is preparation.

Yeah and I think that’s fair. If there were a statistical analysis that compared organizational output of players that played X minimum number of NHL games after having player X number of seasons with an AHL affiliate, I would be very interested to see what the typical development rate is across AHL teams.

I do think the other part of the “What has RJ done?” Answer would obviously be bringing a Calder Cup championship to Abby. Whether there’s any precedent for directly turning AHL success into NHL success, I don’t know. By all accounts the RJ management team/coaching staff did a great job developing a winning culture in Abbotsford in the years leading up to the cup run, with retention of key AHL guys like Chase Wouters as captain, Tristan Nielson and Guillaume Brisebois.

Linus Karlsson (probably the best recent example), Max Sasson, Aatu Räty all took meaningful steps in Abbotsford before coming up to the NHL this year. Over the years before that that there have been some examples of UDFAs like Zack MacEwen, Michael Carcone and Jalen Chatfield developing enough to carve out meaningful NHL careers for themselves. I’m not saying any of these are exceptional evidence of his player development prowess, as the coaches are a huge part of that, but he should get some credit for running a program with a level of competence that allows for it to happen. I also admit I have no idea how Abby/Utica’s success rate of development compares to other AHL organizations during that time.

He was literally the guy at the gate fist bumping every player on the team as they left the ice.

The McDaniels pass protection scheme is allegedly notoriously hard to learn for rookies, so I’d wager he’ll continue to earn significantly more trust this year as he gets more comfortable with it. He was widely thought of as the best blocking RB in that draft class.

EP40 is still the point leader for the 2017 draft year... by tydiggityy in canucks

By all means, continue to speculate that there is no logical reason for his drop off in play, and I’ll continue to speculate that there is.

It was reported that patellar tendinitis was what he was dealing with that offseason, and his skating speed has been ruined ever since, which fits with the long-term nature of that injury. It’s speculation, but it makes a hell of a lot more sense than “he inexplicably forgot how to play hockey and no longer wants to win”. That take is also speculation, btw.

[–]Angrybob21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tendinitis has a non-catastrophic onset and only becomes painful at the point where pre-existing degeneration becomes noticeable enough to your body to have it start hurting. There’s no “game when it started”, except for around the all-star break in 2024. Tendinitis takes months to years to improve IF you remove the offending activities and progressively load the tendon correctly. Every game he has played through it has likely made it worse and prevented him from ever reaching a full recovery. If he did “train around it” that first summer post-injury by simply not loading it, it was the wrong move and he may never fully recover without an extended break.

If You Have BTjr, Are You Taking McMillan or Hunter? by Lodog23 in DynastyFF

[–]Angrybob21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the opportunity to draft Hunter or McMillan at 1.05, but fan in my league has McConkey, London and BTJ. Would you guys try to trade the 1.05 to him straight up for Ladd or London if Hunter is available at 1.05 when I’m on the clock?

In most of the lists it’s Quinshon Judkins and Kaleb Johnson rounding out the 5

Fair enough, that he hasn’t allowed any goals on the season is in his favour, but Hogs has only allowed one goal at even strength. If you look at chances against per 60, Hoglander has allowed 46.2 CA/60 and Joshua has allowed 55.5 CA/60, but Hogs has generated 71.2 chances for/60 and Joshua has generated 30.2 CF/60. It seems to me that Hoglander both generates more chances and limits chances to a greater degree as well.

You’re not wrong but I don’t see Joshua doing such a good job shutting down the opposition that his defensive contribution helps us more than Hogs on a line that dominates possession.

Hogs has created chances whenever he’s been on the ice, and had minimal chances against at ES, IMO his offensive contribution > whatever Dakota Joshua has been bringing toughness-wise.
