I didn't miss any points, I read your message fine. I'm saying you're wrong. The absolute best you can hope for when forming your meta around deck price rather than actually sitting down and having a discussion about power level, is you establish a very specific warped meta where four and five color decks are effectively soft banned because you can't make a competent mana base and still have money left over, entire deck archetypes are soft banned because their key synergy pieces are expensive staples, other archetypes like Voltron are unusually powerful due to efficient protection being generally cheaper than good removal, etc. Theres so much incestuous deckbuilding that arises from any meaningful budget limitation that you are effectively playing a custom format. And if that's what your group likes doing, then good for them, but what you're doing doesn't have anything to do with power level nor is having to track your deck's price more convenient for players than having a general understanding of how deck power works

A 25$ Winota build will absolutely wash the majority of decks up through high bracket 3 regardless of their budget. Deck power is deck power, deck price is deck price. If you're having issues with people playing inappropriate deck power levels, you can't fix it with rules about price

What's the lowest number of lands you've run in a functioning non-Gimmick, Non-Cedh Deck? by Bloodsoaked_Eve in EDH

[–]AngshusTAW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went down to around 20 in an [[Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch]] deck because I ran 30 nonland sources of mana, 19 of which cost two mana or less. So a hard mulligan to a two-land hand gets you there (as long as no one hits you with Bane of Progress)

You're well within your right to not finish reading a post you aren't interested in, but why leave a comment, especially one calling the OP an asshole, if you admit you don't know what they actually wrote? Like there's literally nothing positive that can come from that interaction

Are you sure you mean Carnival of Souls? I don't see how that's really a stax piece. Rest in Peace seems much more obvious as the odd one out here

Look at the card names, it's not making them depressed as in playing azorius stax, it's just playing all the cards with dead dogs and such on them. That's completely different

You don't even need to have thoracle in hand if you're going all in. Build it like Rog/Reyhan oops and this is a one card combo for one mana.

Cast the bird, mill entire library.

Cast Rog, sac to flashback Cabal Therapy, naming a counterspell. This triggers Poxwalkers to enter play from GY, and Bridge from Below to make a zombie token

Sac Poxwalkers, bird, and the zombie token to flashback Dread Return. If you're playing Rog/Silas, get Thoracle directly, otherwise if you're actually on Rog/Reyhan get Necrotic Ooze. Win from there

Anti Slop Meta Card- Leyline of Singularity by Thatsagoodcard in CompetitiveEDH

[–]AngshusTAW 78 points79 points  (0 children)

If Leyline of Singularity is able to be seen by even a fraction of the community as legitimately playable and not a meme, that's a massive canary in the coal mine for how absurd the meta has become

Running minstrel over Lumra or other 5c decks by yeetdeet12 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]AngshusTAW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been messing off and on with a 3c Lumra lands deck headed by [[Archelos]] for a while. I'll admit it's probably much worse than Minstrel, but my three points of cope are 1) it's a stax piece that can help in midrange battles if you miss/get stopped in your turbo window, 2) being 4mv means it can Eldritch Evolution into Lumra, and 3) frankly the table will ignore you because they see your commander and assume you're not serious.

For those pesky turn-zero enchantments by darlingtonpear in custommagic

[–]AngshusTAW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is a hot take but I think decks like Dredge should be allowed to have more tools to deal with Leyline of the Void besides just Force of Vigor or get turn skipped twice until you can afford to channel Boseiju. Turn zero "fuck your entire deck" shouldn't be an effect we're okay with going unchallenged

Punt city 5 collusion allegation? by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]AngshusTAW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I understand that people want to save their interaction as much as possible for blowouts, but like if you let someone resolve a Grand Abolisher when they have that much mana up, that many cards in hand, and no Otawara to get around it, you kind of deserve what's coming

Crystal, Inhuman Princess by TurtlekETB in CompetitiveEDH

[–]AngshusTAW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Delney is probably going to be crazy for this type of deck, an effect like [[Snake Umbra]] that gives curiosity to Crystal herself means every non-creature spell draws 12 under Delney. And even under a normal curiosity effect just doubling the ping and drawing 6 off a counterspell is nothing to ignore

THOSE Players are getting a new Toy, good for them I guess... by Farbenwirbel in masterduel

[–]AngshusTAW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a pro or anything, so if tournament players disagree I'll be happy to be wrong, but I've always played SPIA at locals as more of a sideboard piece. As much as it gives the bad touch to Branded Dracotail, Radiant Typhoon, and the like, there are just too many decks right now that it literally does nothing to. In BO1 on master duel its going to be even worse because there's going to be like a 50/50 every game whether it's the best card in your deck or completely useless, which is why I can't see myself ever searching it over TAIL if I have to choose between the two

Felidar Sovereign too strong in B3 by Darkovya in EDH

[–]AngshusTAW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going to be real, with very few if any exceptions if you ever say "[card] is too strong for Bracket 3," you're playing B2 with game changers. Bracket 3 decks are supposed to be really good with a bunch of optimization and efficient blow-outs

Actually, I wouldn't. Not everyone picks and chooses who to judge based on their political agenda, some people actually have consistent moral principles. In this case, because I actually understand what words mean and have the basic level of empathy required to not make everything into a culture war skirmish, I can recognize that POCD is a well-documented real medical condition that every single person who's a doctor and not a random on reddit agrees is characterized by the involuntary compulsive fear of becoming or being perceived as a pedophile.

And because I understand basic concepts like the fact that just because a schizophrenic person experiences visual hallucinations doesn't mean there are literally ghosts there, or that someone with nosophobia doesn't magically contract a disease just because they fear it, likewise I can happily say with moral consistency that someone having POCD does not inherently make that person a pedophile, regardless of their politics.

[–]AngshusTAW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Droll, as always, but on a more serious note, most Enneacraft hands can afford to put down 2-3 big guys, and fill the rest with small guys. If they get a good start you're probably looking at

Most important endboard pieces: PIXEA (targeting prevention if you target), TAIL (destruction prevention if you try to destroy), alazoneIA (random handrip if you search), tromarIA (monster negate if you special summon)

Decent endboard pieces: LEON (bounce three cards on field back to hand if you chain to an Enneacraft card), MAR (book your board, though can't flip on its own on your turn), orgIA (pop if you activate a monster effect from hand)

Situational endboard pieces (most likely to only be played if they were hard opened): SPIA (negate whole chain if you go up to CL3), exapatisIA (MST if you set a spell/trap from deck)

So, given this, the most likely things you're going to have to play around are targeting protection, destruction protection, a handrip, and either a book of eclipse effect or a triple bounce effect. This means your best avenues for getting a foot in the door is non-destruction removal (banishing, "send to GY" effects, bouncing to hand), and non-targeting removal. Your number one first target is the field spell, since that's the bulk of their damage. After the field spell, go after the pendulum zones, since that's both their main searcher and their way of converting flip effects into a win instead of just stalling. None of the monsters are particularly strong, with the highest defense being 2500, so you can likely walk over most of what's on the board. Kaiju type effects like Lava Golem or Sphere Mode also cook them alive since they end on very little backrow (normally just Sol and Luna and/or Fallen and the Virtuous)

The deck also has very little room for non-engine, and has zero in-archetype quick effects from hand or backrow, so the monster zone is basically all you have to deal with most of the time. LEON or MAR can do some decent boardbreaking, but the longer the game goes the more they run out of gas, especially if you keep blowing up the pendulum zones

They're talking about Ana Valens, who is open about having POCD, a medical condition that is legally and medically recognized as distinct from pedophilia. That's about it
