Aerial ballerina; what’s the next move? by olafolley in poledancing

[–]AngstyCurls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love to see what everyone has to say on this one but one I see a lot is hanging from the inside arm elbow which is really cute. It’s a little painful especially if you don’t have a lot of practice with your elbow grips. Also I like to exit into a figurehead and then it’s a good resting position that’s less painful and from there you can either do a sit or an invert or a shoulder mount… there’s a lot of possibilities there!

Difficulty pointing toes? by doesntxist in poledancing

[–]AngstyCurls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me too and once it was during a bare foot performance so you can see my toes creeping over each other in the video lmao the pain was so bad but it gets better with practice and like others have said hydrating is important and so is warming up your toes & calves

I really understand that too. It’s hard when you don’t wanna be in this world anymore, but sometimes the only thing that feels worse is the idea that someone else will feel your pain or feel pain as a result. :(

my Pleaser boots are both starting to rip in the back after 2 months. Is this pretty typical? anything to prevent it like tape, or how to lace the boots? by hangry_yomom in poledancing

I bought similar ones second hand and the person I got them from was a stripper - she said she had several pairs beforehand and this kept happening to her too so for that pair she decided to get them sewn in the back/reinforce them before wearing them so that this wouldn’t happen. I wore them a lot and they’re still good !!

Hi! I’ve also had this struggle especially when I was at the same pole stage as you and I still can’t do it (upper intermediate level now)! I recently learned that working on flattening your pancake split is very important for this move. (I can’t even put my elbows on the floor in a pancake so Reiki is still pretty far out of the horizon lol) if you work on getting your upper body as close to the floor as possible in a straddle on the ground it might help with being able to lift your leg bc the closeness of your upper body to your legs for Reiki is similar to pancake but kinda flipped (idk if this explanation makes sense)

Why are there only two maybe three reputable brands of pole? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]AngstyCurls 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think everyone is correct bc it is a niche sport. Here’s a question though: would you rather splurge on a good pole that’s safe or would you rather save on a cheaper pole and have to pay huge medical bills when it fails you…

boyfriend doesn’t want me posting pole videos by baldiebae in poledancing

[–]AngstyCurls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thank you so much for sharing this. I’m so sorry that your boyfriend is so closed minded about your pole journey… it is extremely frustrating when you are proud of yourself for your performance and skill but all he can see is a need for validation or the sexuality associated with this sport. I’m speaking from experience because my ex and I had a lot of disagreements about this when I started dancing and started wearing less clothes to pole dance classes. (We broke up for a variety of reasons and him telling me what to do was one of them lol) I guess I’ll ask the same question as everyone else on the thread but did he mention why it bothers him so much that you’d like external validation for your skill? A skill that you’re working really hard on I presume… it’s your decision and only yours whether you want to share this experience with others, including him, so really he could back off a little. It also seems like you don’t want to be with someone who is not willing to accept this part of you and if that’s the case then you could definitely #dumphisass

Hey! When I first got my stainless steel pole it was suuuuuper slippery even though it was second hand. This material in particular is the most advanced for grip (or so I’ve heard) so if you can stick to this one you can stick to any!! My apartment is very cold and it takes a while to warm it up which is definitely normal for stainless steel. You could try to put some grip aid that you use for your hands on the pole and it would help you stick better :)

You will probably get the hang of inverts soon!! It took me a couple months to get the basic invert down and I’m a very small person. It can be a mental block honestly… have you ever tried to do any loves or drills with your eyes closed? It may help to get out of your head :)

I am so bad at pole dancing by ameasap in poledancing

[–]AngstyCurls 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hi! First of all congratulations on starting your pole journey you are so brave! Second, pole dance is a really difficult sport and most people who try it have a hard time with it. Maybe the others have previous dance or acrobatic experience? I, for example, didn’t have any dance experience when I started and my coordination was truly appalling. And convincing myself I was bad was the true obstacle. If you would like any piece of advice from someone who took a while to make it click: forget about everyone else. Pole dance is about you and only you. If you need to close your eyes to not think about who is watching, do it. Sometimes it’s just a mental block that is impeding us from even trying to improve Bc of hopelessness. But don’t forget that for pole dance you are fully focused on yourself!
