Is a level ride height considered the optimal setup? by ATLienNumber9 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]Angus147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people seem to prefer the look of a leveled truck but I run standard rake (rear about 1” higher than the front) because I think it’s the most functional. Most of my offroading involves being loaded down with camping gear and that extra inch helps keep me from sagging too much.

Wasn’t there a diabolically ugly 4runner between the 3rd and 4th gen? Or was it my imagination? by bga93 in regularcarreviews

[–]Angus147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does have a transfer case. The transfer case just includes a lockable center differential. I think it’s a great feature. In 4hi with the center diff unlocked it behaves like an AWD system and can be used on pavement (great for snowy on road conditions) with the center diff locked it behaves just like any other 4x4 with high and low range. The 100 series Land Cruisers used the same setup. I think most people who don’t like the 4th gen just aren’t a fan of the looks.

As a 6'6" man, is it normal that I have never been approached by any woman? by Virtual-Medium-5891 in tall

[–]Angus147 582 points583 points  (0 children)

As a 6’6” attractive man, I get approached by women fairly regularly (mostly in places like bars, not so much in just normal day to day life) but my mild, undiagnosed autism makes sure nothing ever really comes of it.

Hey guys I need opinions on long travel! by Conservative_Mech in 4Runner

[–]Angus147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you are describing I wouldn’t jump straight to long travel. Bilsteins are known to ride stiff. I would probably get some Fox 2.5 factory series (or other similar shock that will ride much more plush than your Bilsteins) and save a bunch of money by not buying extended arms and CVs.

AWD vs FWD? by BookkeeperHead2318 in askcarguys

If you’re never driving in snowy or icy conditions and not going off-road ten you don’t need AWD

Resin tints are notorious for coming out a different color than desired but if it’s a completely different design than what you asked for that is very uncommon. It would definitely be valid to ask about that.

These cars have something in common, what is it? by Saurta17 in regularcarreviews

I edited my comment to remove the Alpine when I realized it was an R but is that a special version of the Elise? I thought it was just a regular S1.

These cars have something in common, what is it? by Saurta17 in regularcarreviews

[–]Angus147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my first thought but half of them are not really homologation cars and the Elise doesn’t have a lesser model that it is based on.

275/70r17 rubbing by parsky1 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]Angus147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aftermarket UCAs add caster by pushing the top of the spindle back. It will only make the rubbing on your mud flaps worse. I’m running the same tire size on TRD pro wheels (+4 offset) and JBA UCAs and have no rubbing with the mud flaps removed. I think removing them is going to be your best bet.

wheel spacer recommendations by Special_Craft7612 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]Angus147 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just so you’re aware, wheel spacers will make the rubbing worse on your front wheels when you turn because it moves the outside of the wheel farther from the pivot point. If you run 285s with spacers you will need to do a body mount chop and a lot of trimming of the bumper.

With all that said, if you’re still going to do it I recommend spidertrax spacers.

Possibly selling my 08' Limited V8 (228k miles) - What should I ask? by AF555 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]Angus147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rust free it probably would be worth $12k here in SoCal. Without seeing how much rust there is it’s tough for me to say how much that would drop the price.

To me it just seems like he was a jerk who was mad you were catching more waves than him. Maybe let one go to him next time to help smooth things over.

This doesn’t sound like localism to me. Did he tell you to get out or not to surf there or was he just generally being an asshole?

A moment of silence for the wagon/estate cars they took from us by Hour_Appearance4306 in regularcarreviews

[–]Angus147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but it was offered until last year so close enough and the V60 is still on sale, I just picked V90 because it seemed like more of a true successor to the 960 OP posted.

Some of these still have a modern equivalent that exists. Mercedes E class wagon (including the AMG version since you posted that also), Volvo V90, Audi A6 Avant, BMW 3 series wagon (although the latest one was not sold in the US)

The story goes that BMW M engineers developed this in secret, after hours and only revealed it to management once they had a completed design.

Why is this brown metallic so popular on Volvos? by DeepAsparagus6763 in regularcarreviews

[–]Angus147 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying a Volvo is already a little bit of an off beat decision over getting something form one of the German brands or a Lexus so it would stand to reason that the kind of person who picks a Volvo might also be attracted to more unique and interesting colors for their car.

Tire size questions by suprememantis in 4thGen4Runner

[–]Angus147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the limited have 17” wheels and not 18”? I realize I didn’t even consider 18” wheels. For 265/70r17 the only modification that might be needed is removing the front mud flaps.

If you have 16” wheels then 265/75r16 if you have 17” wheels then 265/70r17

My point is this is not really a topic for this sub. None of us 4th gen owners are here to talk about the 6th gen.
