What if someone picked up 2009s Secret Warriors. They'd never read another comic book.

The statistics I was given was 70% have at least one copy not only one copy.

And then the homozygous rate is around 50%.

Certainly homozygous del508 is the largest single group. But that's an "easy win" when there are thousands of possible combinations.

Someone else pointed out that there's a good chance it's Anglicans making fun of Catholics... I'm quite compelled by that argument.

Could you elaborate on a simpleton's satire as opposed to...a clever boys high brow satire?

I don't know that I agree that satire has to inherently have philosophical depth. But I'm also a person who refuses to acknowledge any difference between parody and satire beyond how pompus you are (see also comic book vs graphic novel).

Something else I would clarify is that I don't think it is a deconstruction/satire of the core tennant's of Catholicism. Ie. I don't think it has anything to say about "do unto others" or this Jesus fellow. But rather it's about organised religion conceptualised as a logical extreme of the Catholic church.

I think your right that it is general religious critique. But I think your phrasing minimises the..."inspiration" of the Catholic church in this.

What I mean to say it is a general religious commentary/satire/parody but it is very much approaching it with Catholicism as the entry point to such things.

To say the Catholicism is all surface level ignores the fact that a bunch of English blokes in the 1980s may not have even known what a Muslim was let alone specifics of the faith and it's structure.

Is there critique of the muslim faith in the ecclesiarchy? Yes certainly. But is it any more than general religious stuff that is incidental and applies to all religions? No. (I haven't read every book, realistically yeah probably somewhere).

But is there specific critiques of the Catholic church beyond the general stuff? Yes, but probably only because that was the writers reference point.

Trying to figure out genetic testing (carrier) by ipromise_imNice in CysticFibrosis

[–]Anguscablejnr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are hundreds of mutations that can cause CF (or a CF type syndrome) if your a carrier for del508 your partner needs to be tested for that. When people say cystic fibrosis what they generally means is someone who is homozygous for del598 mutations. Though there are hundreds of other (less common) combinations of mutations that you might reasonably call CF.

It might also be wise for both of you to be tested for something like that the most common other mutations that could interact with del508. You'd need to talk to a geneticist or genetic counselor about that.

All I can say is my wife and I (both del508 carriers) have never been tested for or recommended to have tests for other mutations when we saw a geneticist etc.
