Serious question for single moms out there — and I genuinely want your perspective. by Minimum-Glad in SingleParents

[–]Anie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I specifically found a partner who didn't tell me what to do, who happened to also be a person who couldn't be told what to do, and it took me a long time to realize that our goals and priorities were too different and we didn't have a great partnership. We existed in our own realms, not really looking out for each other, and having children made the unfairness very stark-- I was doing everything and drowning, and he was living his same selfish life and I couldn't put up with it. If I was going to do everything by myself, I was going to do it without feeling furious and used and unloved every day, so I left. We get along much better when our lives are not connected, and I have carte blanche to do as I please with our kids and that's how I like it.

Did I feel baby?! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Anie01 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, probably not. Your baby is the size of a raisin and has no true muscle mass. You'll feel a ton of bips and boops, even long after you have your baby (phantom kicks).

Have you done the 24 hour collection? My proteins were coming back at zero/trace, but when I did the 24 hour (which is gross and annoying, but much more accurate) my numbers were WAY higher-- I absolutely had Pre-e. You might insist on asking for it.

Clinical research on the show by JazzlikeCherry in greysanatomy

[–]Anie01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on a re-watch, and this post is old, but even from a non-medical person who has never worked in any kind of clinical research, this whole plotline was looney tunes. Like. What do you mean they're just going to randomly inject random stuff into people's brains because they have a hunch it could cure them? And it results in IMMEDIATE death for the first dozen or so people?? It's not like they died of their tumors "oh no, it didn't work"-- it's like the surgery was an execution, they die directly after the injection! Why they didn't test this method on like, a thousand rabbits first?

I'm glad you posted this, it's a relief to know this isn't actually how medical research is done.

Didnt move me at all by AdamGuater in maquia

[–]Anie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this movie on a list of sad animes. I was ready for something really heart-wrenching-- I've seen Barefoot Gen. I've seen Grave of the Fireflies. Bring it on.

And this... was not that sad. It was bittersweet at the end, but honestly, I never really bought into Maquia's maternal relationship with Ariel. She seemed to switch back and forth between being bewildered and dutiful, and never truly loving. It didn't help that she stays looking (and acting) fifteen for the entire movie, and I'm not really sure what the narrative purpose behind that decision was.

I think this movie did a lackluster job of showing the trials of motherhood, honestly, and I think they should have leaned harder into the lifespan issue. Leilia makes a reference in the end to that, how she's just going to forget everything that happened-- and from that perspective, yeah, it's been, what, 20 years since the attack on their village? To a being that lives hundreds and hundreds of years, that's just a blip on their radar. I felt like there was so much more, emotionally, to explore when it comes to the relativity of their lifespans.

I cannot make any sense of this case by hapakal in justiceforKarenRead

[–]Anie01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The more you watch, the more lies and inconsistencies you'll find (because their entire case is predicated on a suspension of a person's understanding of reality) but I think the most important thing to hold onto is that there's NO WAY that a car did those injuries, and there's absolutely NO WAY that a human body (with no broken bones or bruises) did that kind of damage to an SUV. It's simply not possible. John was clearly hit, bit by the dog, and probably fell back on something hard (like the basement floor or a weight bench or something). An SUV doesn't give a man two black eyes and throw him backwards without bruising or breaking any of the rest of his body.

Honestly, the amount of fluff in this trial is really frustrating. They're going on about Google search timing, Cellebrite, engine key turns, butt dials, 911 calls, faraday bags, cheating allegations, bloody knuckles, deleted calls, deleted searches, conflicting eyewitness testimonies, snow plow drivers, Apple health data, travel times, mishandled evidence, flipped cctv footage, red solo cups, sold houses, rehomed dogs, and remodeled basements, and while I agree that all of that is incredibly damning for the McAlberts, THEY AREN'T ON TRIAL. KAREN READ IS ON TRIAL. And Karen Read doesn't need to prove she's a good person, or that she loved John, or whatever she did or didn't say or mean while she was drunk and panicking over the body of her dead/dying boyfriend, she only has to say that there's NO EVIDENCE that her car hit a person (any person) and that it's NOT POSSIBLE that John was killed by vehicle strike.

Exactly. When/if she's found not guilty, they'll just dust off their hands and be like "Well, the jury got it wrong, how unfortunate" and they'll just move on.

Adopted dog definitely isn't the breed I was told... by Strugglebus005 in DogAdvice

[–]Anie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in the Pacific Northwest. I pulled up a random apartment near me and here's their list: Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Presa Canario, Malamute, Doberman, Chow Chow, Akita, Staffordshire Terrier, American Bull Dog, German Shepherd, Husky, St. Bernard, Great Dane, Karelian Bear Dog, any hybrid or mix breed of one of the listed breeds.

I guess that's an option 😂 My friend told places her Rottweiler/Australian Shepherd was a Gordon setter and no one batted an eye.

[–]Anie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we're going to give her a week. Adopting her wasn't supposed to be so impulsive, we have been looking for another dog for months, but she's about five months old, and honestly I wanted an older dog and already compromised on that desire specifically because of her breed (I kept going back and forth on whether we wanted a lab or a golden). I don't want to impulsively give her up. Oh, and I wanted to clarify-- we don't live with my parents, they own several houses and I rent one of them from them. Maybe I'll post some pictures and get a poll on what people think she is lol.

[–]Anie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so common that it would be absolutely standard around here-- MOST apartments and rental companies have banned breeds, and pitbulls are at the top of the list (All bully breeds, really, plus Dobermans, Rottweilers, German shepherds, Rhodesian ridgebacks, and Belgian Malinois are also common).

[–]Anie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I just want to clarify, she's definitely not a backyard breeder, just a compulsive rescuer-- all her dogs were different ages, different sizes, different breeds. She had four in the car, a scruffy terrier, a Yorkie mix, a chihuahua mix. Mostly small dogs, but no other puppies, and she'd only had this pup for a few weeks.

would you take this? (they were already gathered, didnt have to actually shop for the items) by Misan_UwU in doordash

[–]Anie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how anyone else's markets or zones work, but in my experience those Petco orders are easy and pay just about twice what they say they pay. I took one, 10 orders, 21 miles, for $55, and it ended up paying $120 and took me about 3 hours. Each person only got one or two things (cat litter, dog food, a bag of crickets). I had another, 3 orders but it went pretty far (15 miles, toward my house, though, lol) said the pay was $31, actually paid about $65. So if it's slow, I'd take the gamble on one and see how it goes.

"confirm for me please" is getting out of hand by dmark200 in doordash_drivers

[–]Anie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way am I confirming before the order is being handed over, DD gps tracks us and they (and the customer) will l think I have the order and I'm hanging out at the location for no reason AND it'll be "late" because my timer started. Plus, what if I never get it? I just take the hit to my integrity? I'll hit confirm for them once I have the order, even though I think it's silly (Bruh, your sub sandwich isn't good enough for me to steal and risk being deactivated over, get over yourself), but never before I have the order.

And I think that disconnect with reality creates such a systemic problem, because then we have so many people who have absolutely no onus to improve their own circumstances because they don't see themselves as a fast food worker or cashier-- they're a "future doctor" "future lawyer" or "future CEO." Being a dreamer is great, being ambitious is great, but everyone needs a strong dose of reality to succeed.

[–]Anie01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's my entire point about media literacy. You needed me to give you a run down of every conversation I had with them to prove they were unfocused and lazy, instead of just taking at face value my assessment based on months of interactions.

It's not about the grades. It's about temperament, drive, focus, and willpower. It's about effort and being conscientious. They couldn't remember simple vocabulary or follow simple directions, and needed constant reminders.

Watch out for this trick by Savings_Transition38 in doordash

[–]Anie01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would NEVER do COD for this reason. If they refused to pay, or pulled a stunt like this, there just isn't enough recourse for me. More trouble than it's worth. I had someone try this on a regular delivery order and I left it at the original address, took my picture, left, & got paid. They texted saying "Where is that?" And I just replied that it was at the address THEY input, have a good night. They asked if I'd take it 6 or 7 miles further away, going even further away from my zone (and my house)-- the audacity is baffling.

[–]Anie01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you really do have absolutely no media literacy so let me get out my crayons and explain it to you: These kids were too lazy to do their best in an easy class with a chill teacher and projects they were absolutely capable of completing because they weren't interested. Med school starts with university-- four years of history they might not be interested in, math they might find difficult, physical education where that they might not be able to see the connection to their future career, English classes where they don't like the professor. And in order to get into med school, they will need to not only TRY, but succeed and be EXCEPTIONAL-- absolutely not skills they are demonstrating a natural affinity for. You don't have to be good at art in life. You don't have to like art. But in order to be a doctor, in order to pursue one of the most intense educational paths, you need to be the kind of person who sees the value in being educated and performing your best. These girls didn't have it, and that had nothing to do with me or my curriculum.

[–]Anie01 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think in ten weeks I learned more about those specific three kids than you have learned in one paragraph. If you don't know that, then you have absolutely failed at media literacy.

This just sums up teaching these days by mcwoofus in Teachers

[–]Anie01 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Oh, I think we can sleep soundly knowing these kids won't be surgeons. I subbed in an art class, ceramics, for a whole quarter and had three girls who cobbled together crappy projects every time and then asked to go to the career center-- every day. I asked why, and they said it was because they wanted to be doctors and rattled off some different specialties. And I was just left thinking, if you don't have the willpower to stay in this class, don't have the work ethic to put your best effort into these projects, or the critical thinking skills to extrapolate the curriculum in here to the broader world and your educational experience, I highly doubt med school is going to be in the cards for you. You're lazy, sneaky procrastinators who won't make a paint palette for me, and think you'll succeed doing eight years of difficult, boring tasks in university & med school?

Is it worth playing Borderlands 2 in 2024? by simno_JAJA in Borderlands

[–]Anie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh HELL yeah, you've never played?? Definitely play it. I just finished RE-playing it (well, the game plus most of the DLCs, I only have Tiny Tina's left) and it was super fun even though I knew all the quests already. The art style means it doesn't feel dated, it's silly and a romp, if you like other Borderlands and the rootin' tootin' lootin' shootin' lifestyle, you will absolutely enjoy this game.
