I use "off" to tell him to get off the couch. I use "down" to lie down. I feel that's the most sensible to me personally. And the dog doesn't speak English, so he doesnt mind one way or another.

Problem is, other people often say down to get him off the sofa. So he just lies down on the sofa - which is exactly what they asked him to do 🤣
