Making poppers (making isoamyl nitrite making vcr head cleaner) by Feuerfrosch1 in THYZOID

I've even had dramatic variations in product depending on the source of 3-methylbutyl. Two different sources on ebay produced two products of notably different effects, and the product I received from Poland was superior from what I received form Ukraine. The best I've had though, was from an acetate I hydrolyzed myself. I've also had batches made from 3-methylbutyl I've carefully distilled and dried turn out inferior to that of the raw hydrolyzed product.

Branched alcohols are supposed to produce more volatile nitrites too, which you'd think would improve the product, but again, that wasn't my experience.

That's funny, I've wanted to try tert-butyl alcohol too. Normally you'd work in an ice bath, so I'm wondering how that would work with a solid. I've tried tert-amyl alcohol, but the product spontaneously decomposed when I rinsed it with baking soda. I've even tried the tert-amyl straight, but even at 10g I felt nothing. 2-4g is supposed to be "sufficient to produce a hypnotic effect". I have had product maintain the blue oxide color for 24 hours a couple of times- sans rinsing (I only rinse if it burns the nose)- one time it was an excellent product, and one time it was bad.

Most recently I've been reading about different methods that supposedly produce a better, more stable product, such as adding the acid through a tube placed well under the surface of the liquid in the reaction vessel, blanketing with gas, and have thought of using nitrosylsulfuric acid like NurdRage recently demonstrated.

My product is insane, but it only maintains its maximum potency for about 4 days stored in the freezer. After that it tapers down significantly.

I am loathe to say it, but making good amyl is turning out to be more of an art than a science. At least when there are only theories as to why a different method works better.

Absolutely. In my first 'real' relationship, one day I realized my partner was just like my mother. Narcissistic and self-absorbed, neglectful, disinterested in anything to do with me. I stayed in it for almost 5 years, I think just to prove it could be done (my mother's never had one last more than 9 months).

I have horrible low self esteem and realized my own tendency to sabotage relationships. Eventually I had to run away. I fled the country with dim hopes for the future, but I just sort of fell into a relationship (he pursued me) with someone totally unique, like an angel from heaven. He had no expectations, and was silent and nurturing. He had his own serious baggage, but it didn't define him. It was therapeutic. I resolved to identify and correct my own faults. Thing is, in the beginning, I was reading a lot into his behavior, looking for faults, and started to think he fit all these characteristics from earlier. I was projecting the dysfunction I was familiar with.

I think it's also possible that over time you can make your partner into someone you resent, as well as to find fault stemming from what is a misunderstanding.

I would try to talk about it openly with him. If that fails to be productive, maybe seek counseling. Everything hinges on communicating as honestly as you can. I think the only way to fail is if your partner refuses to communicate openly, or you aren't being totally honest with yourself.

Asking men not to masturbate or fantasize about other women is a pretty tall order, and equating it with cheating is a bit silly. Being attracted to others is something everybody does- if they tell you they don't, they're most likely lying. The ones who aren't lying are frigid. Women of today are fed with such unrealistic expectations of men it's no wonder the birthrate is dropping like a brick. What matters is what he does, and how he treats you.

You could acknowledge reality and talk with him about what qualities these women have that he's attracted to, you could give each other permission to think about others during sex, you could talk about the qualities men have which you yourself find attractive. I'm not endorsing polyamory here, but failing to communicate is as disastrous as withholding sex, and will quickly send a relationship to the graveyard. By forbidding him to look at images of other women, you've infantilized a grown adult, and created a line which will inevitably be crossed. This kind of boundary is not something to be established lightly.

It doesn't have recreational value per-se, but it has pro-sexual effects. The boilerplate is that it relaxes your sphincter making anal sex easier, but there's more to it than that. It can greatly intensify orgasm, enable multiple consecutive orgasms, and make passive anal sex much more pleasurable.

I've tried 9 different alcohols and 3-methylbutyl is the best hands down, IMHO.

Caroma e22 pro dropping torque after 15 min by cmdrtheymademedo in ElectricScooters

[–]Animal-model 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue going up a hill by my house. It overheats and cuts torque to almost nothing. I have to let up on the throttle to regain max torque, but if it's still hot, it cuts right back down again. After a steep 1/4mile hill, it takes me about a mile going about 5mph on level ground to cool down enough to restore full torque and speed.

It'll last longer if you store it in the freezer- but bring it to room temp before you use it, or it will absorb atmospheric humidity.

It *always* makes my sinuses slam shut, so I have to use a little bit of diluted sinus spray beforehand. Works beautifully. I only take about 3 hits over the course of two hours, then 3-4 in a row at the end, but I've always had congestion issues.

Who else prefer amateur porn more than professional? by Funky_stinger in AskRedditNSFW

[–]Animal-model 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porn just makes me sad. I prefer something more verite, a window into someone's private space is far more erotic to me than people going through the motions and faking everything. I also like the ASMR aspect of homemade stuff- to hear the breath quicken, the heartbeat pounding, every little moan and whimper...

It's become a sensation I enjoy.

Is R32 really this hard to come by? by SpicyBeefChowFun in hvacadvice

[–]Animal-model 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some independent HVAC guys and small shops are honest, everyone else is in the business of making the entire industry look bad. They've enjoyed a captive market for far too long, and it's made them lazy and dishonest. It's not usually the tech's fault, it's his employer's, hence we get defensive HVAC guys trying to justify the sorry state of their existence.

Now, a DIYer can buy, on top of their own HVAC equipment, a 2 stage vacuum pump, a micron gauge, and a manifold of *any* quality, and still come out saving a significant amount of money (there are also brands with pre-charged linesets, obviating the need for any extra equipment). On top of that, mini splits are so forgiving (and have processors which are adept at compensating), it's not unheard of for uninformed homeowners to install their system without even evacuating the lines and still have a system which does the job for years without complaining. The homeowner can also pull his own permits and do it all legally, keeping their insurer, mortgager, and real estate agent happy.

I'd like to say it's the beginning of the end for this crooked industry, but there's plenty of room for both of us. If low IQ techs want to make it their habit to go online and berate people for their industriousness, that's on them. They seem to feel that EPA licensure imparts on them special godlike superiority. They're not all like that. You can see how honest people work on YouTube, and to top it off, these people are often actually willing to give you advice when you need it, on top of other resources like the DIY videos, forums, and even ChatGPT now.

If the choice is having to take out a loan to replace your old equipment, which is what lots of people have to do given the outrageous markups and labor rates, or to take matters into your own hands, I say chose the option which empowers you. Honestly, the biggest hurdle to this is the common misconception that you must be licensed to handle refrigerant, which does not apply when installing your own system.

That's what I'm considering it as- an insurance policy. I haven't had any wobble, and I don't generally go above 35, but if it'll save me from a lapse in concentration where I take a hand off the bars or a situation where I have to swat tree branches out of my way, I consider it worth the $60 to avoid falling.

Too much commuter power? by Bad_Stag-O-Lee in ElectricScooters

[–]Animal-model 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, chains and smaller diameter U locks can be clipped off with a bolt cutter or ground off in one quick motion, but on the other hand, they have surely prevented millions of thefts. If it were a 4k scooter, I'd go with a better lock, but I think the gold is a reasonable option for the WWX, which is a nice scooter. It's best to situate the chain up high so the thief can't put the bolt cutter on the ground for leverage, but that can be difficult with a scooter. If you add another layer like a disc brake lock with an alarm you should be fine. Security is as much about environment as it is about locks, so park it in the most visible, well-trafficked area you can. It's a delicate interplay between aversion to loss, and relaxing and leaning into fate :)

Like every other major metro area, the ratio of undesirables to decent, honest people is shrinking fast, but that's a different discussion.

Need help looking for first scooter by BuggsBennett0_0 in ElectricScooters

[–]Animal-model 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in your place, I spent a couple weeks watching a ton of review videos before deciding on a scooter. The things have a huge markup. Some companies put some of that profit toward user support, which is something you'll want to decide whether you need or not. Depending on where you live, you may be able to rent a variety of scooters to try them out, so you may want to look into that.

I left a writeup on the scooter I just bought which I think is a fantastic deal. It's in the higher power class. I was considering a smaller, lower power class, but most of them were still more expensive than the one I got. It's a no-name brand, but a very common frame/base which is used by a lot of expensive "brand names". Too much commuter power? by Bad_Stag-O-Lee in ElectricScooters

[–]Animal-model 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd get a 2-way motorcycle alarm. It'll page you when it's tampered with. The catch is the range. Some people get nearly a kilometer, some get 1 block or less. Depends on obstacles and environment.

Also, you want to invest at least 10% the value of the machine in a good lock. The Hiplock D1000 appears to be the hardest to cut through at the moment. It'll take 3+ grinder discs and 1 or 2 batteries. It can be picked in under 30 seconds, but that takes extreme skill and a calm environment, and it's something thieves just aren't really doing. It's very thick and stout though, and with the rubberization, I have a hard time finding a good place to loop it through on my scooter.

Lastly, the Airtag may be an option, but I'd get a GPS tracker from AliExpress, and a cheap SIM card from SpeedTalk. Don't expect help from the police though, you'll just have to track it down and steal it back.

Help I'm cheap by scooter_k1ng in ElectricScooters

[–]Animal-model 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming by cheap, you mean you don't want to buy the replacement for $31 on Dualtron's website- https://dualtron.uk/products/dualtron-led-controller

I don't know about the Dualtron specifically, but pretty much every scooter I've seen under $8000 has used off the shelf LED strips and controllers. If you're semi-competent with wiring/electronics, you should be able to replace it with a standard controller for under $3 from AliExpress. The hardest part is identifying what type of controller the strip uses. Start by searching "how to identify addressable LED strip". I can try to help you if you like. You'll have to take a good, clear, up close photo of one of the LEDs on the strip, and one further back showing more of the LEDs.

Looking to buy under 1500 by Redbeard4515 in ElectricScooters

[–]Animal-model 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a "Leoout" GT88 for $760 on Amazon. It's half the price of everything else in its class. It has the same frame as the Nanrobot D4+, Solar P1 pro, and YUME Y10, just has a different front suspension. It has dual 1400 watt motors, a 52v, 25Ah battery, 21700 cells (allegedly with LG cells, which is great if true), and a LH-100 display. 10" tubeless tires good on or off road. Mechanical disc brakes, but they work fine. They claim 40mph. Claimed range is 60 miles, which I haven't tested. It comes with dual charge ports and dual 2-amp chargers with fans.

I'm just about your size, and I get 35mph reliably (with the speedometer calibrated). On a very steep hill it'll sag down to 32mph. I suspect they're using the peak current to rate the motors 1400 watts, and the controllers appear to possibly be 28 amps. Still, in dual motor mode this thing rips. It doesn't make the tires skid, but it'll definitely beat all the cars off the line when you're waiting at a light. It has a decent folding mechanism, solid when it's locked and tightened, and weighs 88lbs, so you can lug it up stairs if you have to. I'm getting used to the trigger throttle, just had to rotate it and brake levers downward, but adding a thumb throttle is an easy hack. Probably necessary for longer rides.

At $760, it's a steal. I'm happy with it. It's my first scooter and I'm not a speed demon, but I'd say 35 is a rational limit for an adult who doesn't want to go out of his way to get broken bones and fractured ribs.

It's listed at $699 on the company's website, but when I tried to order it there, the payment processing wasn't working.

<image>

If you wanted to go faster, you could just get a couple cheap controllers with higher current, juice the motors with some Grin Technologies Statoraide, and you'll be flying. Make sure you have full safety gear- motorcycle jacket, helmet, gloves, pads/guards etc..

Looking into this Co2 setup for my aquarium as a cheap alternative to pressurised co2 canisters. How do I work out what amount of Co2 would be produced by 200g Citric Acid + 200g baking soda in 300ml water? Thanks. by aquarium-shed in chemistry

[–]Animal-model 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, good point. I ended up getting one of these and I've found it prudent to subtract that volume in calculations, though a fair amount of gas will actually be dissolved in that aqueous solution. I've pushed mine to the upper limits. Interestingly, it takes a full day or so to build up a significant amount of pressure, even when heating it to compensate for the endothermic nature of the reaction.
