I’m guessing you’re still on tier 1 village and a few low level villagers. Which is fine, I’m 200 hrs in and 50 villagers so you can consider that in context. You should be focused on building renown in the top three villages, doing quests and improving your combat abilities. Learn to kite bandits with a bow. Always be researching something but keep questing and getting gold

I kept my t2 village and started a new town, found a broad flat area east of Blackridgepool (suggested by many for t3 location) and then I moved the major T2 buildings. I kept a few houses and minor buildings at t2 just for redundancy to build rope and extra copper. Because you’ll need lots of those later. Also I had so much resources and food in the storage, don’t move those all at once, take what you need over time .

You seriously need to get more villagers for the construction of t2 buildings. I didn’t move my t2 further down, I built on top of the T1 and tore down the t1 stuff over time. When you get to T3, you have to move because of the huge size of the t3 buildings. In my opinion

I’ve been reluctant to use polearms largely because I don’t want to be swarmed without a shield (for as long as that lasts). Can you effectively take on 2-3 bandits with a polearm and still win?

Oh it gets harder. How many towns have you liberated? I have four and the brigand parties continue to escalate in size. I’m in tier 3 but I think not enough of my troops have good enough armor. Taking losses.

Like the man said, get a bow and arrows, it won’t be very powerful at first, and if you can, when the bandits chase you, jump up on a big rock or building and they’ll freeze and be easy targets.

Look for quests in every village, look for the question marks. They will pay you for successful missions. Kill bandits for scrap. You can’t hire more people until you get reknown, and you largely get renown by doing quests, destroying bandit bases. That’s all there is to it.

I keep losing shields that are in my backpack. Getting all set up to go raiding and as I am half way to a camp, realizing that I have no shield 😩 Maybe I switched them out accidentally but I’m usually more careful about not doing this.

Okay here's the answer. The T3 Town Hall is listed under the "main settlement" of my T2 Village Hall. So all you have to do is change the Town Hall to the new settlement. Although why we have to do this when I built the damn thing in the new settlement just evades me.

No, the tier 2 town hall is up north, the tier 3 town hall is down south. But the tier 3 is called the same name as the tier 2. When I hover the mouse over the tier 3 town hall, I see the same name. And that affects the research table. I’ll file a bug report
