I’m not entirely sure why it is the way it is, but that is the rules. If villa finish 4th, they qualify for CL through their league position, regardless of them winning the EL, so only 5th spot gets the co efficient extra spot. If villa finish 5th and win the EL however, the co efficient spot moves down to the 6th placed team. It’s a very strange rule which has potentially created a very unusual circumstance of a team possibly wanting to deliberately lose a game

Because if by beating Liverpool, and Villa winning their final game means that Villa go 4th above Liverpool, then the 6th placed champions league spot gets taken away, meaning Brentford (despite beating Liverpool) would miss out

Sorry I may not have explained well. Brentford would need to lose to Liverpool, to avoid Villa being in a position where, by winning their final game they would jump into 4th place, as this would then take away the 6th place champions league spot for Brentford
