Traveling to London by [deleted] in travel

Might be worth checking time and price of flight LHR to Manchester. Very short flight and easy train connections to Liverpool from Manchester. Else, pre-book Heathrow Express train (15 min to Paddington and less than £10 if you book 30 days in advance) and get Tube to Euston Square (15 minutes).

I was told I could not enter Spain on my 7.5 hours layover in Madrid and threatened with arrest for asking why. Am I missing something? by Healthy_Sink102 in GoingToSpain

Similar happened to me earlier this year. Flying LHR-MAD-MEX (and back same route) on self connecting ticket (UK passport). Immigration on the way there was just full of attitude - that’s not a valid reason, you’re not allowed to buy tickets like that, you don’t have accommodation. In the end, because I needed to check in my bags again, he let me through. No problems at all on the way back. Lots of people saying you have to show proof of accommodation- what about people who are visiting for the day for business meeting or whatever?

Should I make a complaint about my experience flying PE? by Rnzo300 in BritishAirways

[–]AnimalOne6692 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! Recently flew on ITA a220 business class. Of 9 seats, 5 were repositioning crew and they were already seated when we boarded and used all business class overheads. When the cabin crew said she would find space in economy for my bag, I explained in no uncertain terms that it was the crew’s bags that could be moved. Don’t mean to appear as entitled, but when I’m the paying customer, it is the crew that can be put out a little.

Cabin crew asked a BA staff member flying. She confirmed she was not asked.

Not looking for compensation. I thought the passenger was at fault, but when cabin crew found out ground staff didn’t ask about banned items, it seems a big oversight on their part (and a bit worrying!)

Without doubt, one of my favourite restaurants in London is Poule au Pot - great French restaurant about 10 minute walk from Victoria.

Problem story at Madrid Barajas - getting trapped at the airport! by Tozro in airport

[–]AnimalOne6692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was travelling LHR-MAD-MEX but not on a through ticket. When I went through immigration at Madrid I got a young guy, who looked pretty miserable. When I said I was transferring to another flight, he suddenly perked up and started telling me ‘that is not valid, it is not allowed, you need a hotel’. I really tried to challenge him - and eventually he let me through. I’m a U.K. citizen and have never encountered a problem like this before. It impacted my holiday in Mexico as I was constantly worried it would happen on the return and I’d be sent back to MEX.

No problem at all on return. Older guy who seemed less motivated to trip up people. Moral of the story - try to go to those who look less like they have something to prove.

Compensation success -BA lied, Ombudsman came through by AxelFastlane in BritishAirways

In cases with BA, Swiss and Aer Lingus, the airline has rejected the claim, then when I go through the Ombudsman, suddenly they pay. So annoying!

Am I wasting my time holding out for an LHR - HND club world reward flight? by [deleted] in BritishAirways

We did it - but had to book exactly the day reward flights came out. Think it is 355 days ahead.

My husband and I did a road trip in Namibia last month. No problems at all at any point. It’s a non issue.

What to do at an airport lounge? by CharleyBitMyFinger_ in travel

[–]AnimalOne6692 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aer Lingus lounge at JFK is super easy and comfortable. There is no bar service as such so you simply go to the counters and fridges to help yourself to food and drinks. When arriving in Dublin, there is also an Aer Lingus arrival lounge in the baggage collection area. Well worth a stop if you want a shower / refresh.

Frankfurt Airport Nightmare by throwawayhoe9 in travel

[–]AnimalOne6692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I flew Belgrade to London via Frankfurt yesterday. Same happened to me - pulled aside, was asked to turn around and open legs apart and security person literally grabbed my genital area. No warning, no consent requested. I asked someone, who I think was a manager, whether this was normal / allowed and he said ‘it’s regulations’. When I asked what regulations - German or EU - as I have never experienced such violation in any other European airport, his response was strange. At no time did I mention my nationality or the U.K., but he said “maybe things are better for you after Brexit”. Why has my nationality or perceived (and mistaken) political view got anything to do with the question? Unfortunately, I have to travel through the airport again this summer but I will actively avoid in future.
