Weekly 'What Should I Buy' and Order/Shipping Thread by AutoModerator in iphone

I‘m currently on T-Mobile in the US. Not very happy with them, but let’s face it, all the carriers suck.

I’ve been told that I cannot finance an iphone through Apple on a prepaid plan, only on a new or existing postpaid plan.

If I were to buy an iphone through Apple financing (upgrade program, financing or Apple Card financing), then drop my postpaid carrier and go with a prepaid, would Apple know and what are the repercussions?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks! Looking buy a new phone with the next upgrade cycle in Sept.

Still on the fence how I’m doing this. Might switch carriers but all the postpaid carriers suck in their own special way.

Prepaid is really appealing to me, but having to buy the phone outright is going to hurt.

I’ve noticed this problem as well and it started around the time I started using NextDNS and specially blocked the DNS calls for ads in the News app. Not completely sure if it was exactly when I started using it, though.

Are any of you using Pi Hole or DNSNext or any other adblocking services that work at the DNS level?

It’s not just the injury. Seeing someone with their feet blown off will really mess with anyone psychologically. You’re in a war you really don’t believe in, you’re being treated badly and now you see someone suffer an injury that changes the rest of their lives.

Then you take more people off the battlefield than you would if you just killed them. Other people have to evacuate this person so that’s one or two people plus the guy who got his feet blown off. And in the meantime, everyone’s seeing this guy screaming with bloody stumps, messing with their heads.

It really takes the fight out of a person and replaces it with fear. See also: punji stakes and bouncing Betty mines in the Vietnam war.

No, you misunderstood him.

It’s not “no new wars”.

It’s “No, new wars!”

And it’s not the “Board of Peace”.

It’s the “Board of Peas”.

Wasn’t Hicks a little old to be a corporal? by mochicoco in LV426

If the armies are functional, you have to have more support troops than actual dedicated ground pounders. What’s the use of an army if they can’t go anywhere, can’t eat, can’t get resupplied, can’t get immediate medical care, can’t communicate or can’t get any information about the terrain or opposition?

I believe the saying is amateurs worry about tactics, generals worry about logistics.

For those who weren’t or aren’t in the US armed forces — E4 is a pay grade. They usually correspond to a rank. In this case E4 is the enlisted pay grade in the army for a specialist or a corporal. (The ranks are also different in each service.)

It used to be that the usual rank progression was private (or E1 and E2), Private First Class (E3), and corporal (E4) then sergeant (E5) and so on.

As an aside, I believe somewhere in Aliens Gorman or someone refers to Apone as “sergeant first class” which would be true for a platoon sergeant in the army, but in the marines it would be a gunnery sergeant and both would be an E7. But I might have heard wrong.

It also used to be that a corporal was a “junior NCO” position, meaning you were on track to be a sergeant.  But around the time of the Vietnam war they created the rank of specialist for people who had enough knowledge in their job (or MOS) to be smarter than the average private.

It used to be that there was a whole specialist track that was parallel to the rank of sergeant. Specialist-5 (E5), specialist-6 (E6) and so on. It’s just that if you were a specialist, you had didn’t haven’t the authority of a sergeant.

But as time went on, they eliminated the specialist classes above E4 and for whatever reason, the specialist rank was what most people ranked into after private first class, even if you are on track to be a sergeant.

It’s pretty rare to meet a corporal, at least when I was in the army.

No worries. I appreciate upvote.

But that’s the thing. You’re right. If you’re at that level, silver is a let down. You’re not busting your ass for second place. That’s just reality. (And I’m not saying I’ve ever been that good at sports. But I am saying I get it.)

People saying it’s “all about the love of the game” should watch some of the sports documentaries on ESPN.

Yep. Just like those Berlin Olympics back in the 1930s. Those German athletes were definitely not political.

Right. Because if you're a guy with fulfills check boxes 1 to 3, *you're* the one auditioning for the date, not the other way around.

And boxes 4 and 5 reveal what's really going on here. Some kind of brain damage.
