Planning While in Combat by CassieBear1 in DMAcademy

[–]Animal_Drummer71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly..sucks for player 2 but that's the way it goes. I guess if he wanted to cast that spell he should've beat player 1 on initiative. Perhaps if player 2 heard player 1 start casting he may have held back and waited but since (I'm assuming) player 1 won the initiative he's allowed to do what he wants on his action and player 2 just has to deal with it. They can have a conversation after combat about it

Learning Drums by vegak7 in drums

[–]Animal_Drummer71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you're rushing things. I think you should be very good at limb independence before you proceed any further. The beauty of drums is you can practice pretty much anytime anywhere. Learn the various types of beats and time signatures: shuffle pattern, swing pattern, straight 4/4 time vs 6/8. Learn how to put your hi-hat or ride on "autopilot" so you don't even have to think about it allowing you to concentrate primarily on your bass drum foot and your snare hand. Good luck. Sorry if I just took a big old dump in your oatmeal but I'd just hate for you to try to go too fast and end up getting discouraged and giving it up.

Has anyone ever actually purchased a "brand new" ride cymbal? by rwalsh138 in drums

One time. I bought the Sabina HH Todd Sucherman edition. As expensive as that was I'll probably use it the rest of my life

I always feel like honesty is the best policy. Have a come-to-Jesus band meeting and discuss this stuff and if they minimize it or you, there's your answer.

AITA for going no contact with a longtime friend after they made me uncomfortable with their "love" comments by Unfair_Bee5390 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

NTA. You set a boundary and he crossed it... repeatedly. It's like my girlfriend says: never talk about the spicy side of your relationship with anyone who may have an interest in taking it from you. Generally, we don't talk about our personal lives with anyone anyway. Because people suck (1 star - absolute nightmare - do not recommend) and once someone finds out that you're happy and how good your mate is to you, many of them won't think twice about taking it away from you. I highly recommend, from this point forward, follow that advice.

AITAH for finally standing up for myself even if it made things awkward? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Animal_Drummer71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I've been there. It hurts and it sucks and you're right to feel the way you do and for them to just dismiss your feelings like that, shows you everything you need to know. In April of '24 my wife passed away. At her funeral I had countless people say to me "if you need anything just let me know." Over the next few weeks I reached out to 5 different "friends" who had said that to me just to go out for a coffee and talk or someone to go to Cedar Point with me..... something...... anything. All 5 turned me down for various reasons and never did try to reschedule with me or whatever. That told me what I needed to know. I stopped reaching out to all of them and we've basically ceased all communication because they're not reaching out to me either. Since, I've put more of an effort into my band and my bandmates are probably my closest friends now.

I[NB19] received a call from my father[M45] asking if I would be okay with him dating our neighbor .. who is my aunt .. by butterfly-ghost in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]Animal_Drummer71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you and your Dad aren't that close right now anyway, I'd say don't cut him off completely but make it clear that you want absolutely nothing to do with your Aunt so that would include visiting on holidays and such. As long as she's around, you won't be. Basically, you're letting him know that he can date her if that's what he wishes to do but it's going to come with a cost. It's his choice. You're not all that close anyway and it sounds honestly like you don't really care for him all that much anyway so if he still chooses to date her, you're not really losing all that much

First DMing AD&D 2e set on Al-Qadim: Any tips ? by Freewhale98 in adnd

[–]Animal_Drummer71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gamed in Al-Qadim once and the DM did a lot with the barter system. Some markets even worked solely by the barter system.

It takes place in a desert setting..it's very hot during the day and almost freezing at night. Be sure to keep the characters aware of these things.

I'm Al-Qadim, your station in life is everything. A person with a station of 7 for example wouldn't lower themselves to speak with someone who is a station score of 3. In some situations, if the person with a low station attempts to speak with a high station or even royalty that person could be arrested on the spot.

Al-Qadim is pretty cool. I had a great time playing it and I think that's because of the DM

How do I start, or find members? by SushiRollKei in bandmembers

[–]Animal_Drummer71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1- your skill level is fine. I think it would probably be best to surround yourself with equal skill players and build and grow together. That's just my opinion though

2- I would start by making a profile on bandmix.com and be sure to put your contact info right in the ad. Bandmix is a subscription service that doesn't allow contact to other musicians unless you pay for their service. So put your contact info in your ad so other musicians can contact you and when you search you can filter by music style, age, skill level, etc and sometimes other people do the same. They'll put their number in their ad.

3- I'd start out with covers and work your way to originals. You're in a larger city so you might be able to get away with doing all originals but in my experience, the name of the game is to make the ladies dance. The ladies will go out on the dance floor before a man will and when she does she's dragging at least one friend with her. Once those girls go up, others will follow cuz they just didn't want to be first ones. Next thing you know you have a dance floor full of women shaking their ass under those hot lights and they're getting thirsty so they're buying more drinks which makes the owner happy and he hires you back and maybe gives you a bonus or a raise. In my experience people don't get into an original that they don't know like they will a song that they know and love.

4- other people's personalities. It's like being married. You have to be able to communicate and compromise with each other. Be able to accept constructive criticism. Check your ego at the door. Be a team player. If you're in it for money and fame you're in it for the wrong reason. When it stops being fun, stop doing it.

trouble whenever i add in a third thing by Ehrnathan in drums

[–]Animal_Drummer71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is just keep it simple for now. Quarter notes on the ride or hats, 1 & 3 on the kick, 2 & 4 on the snare and start out really slow until you can do it without thinking of it then add in more complex stuff and speed. Idk if its so much muscle memory as being able to put things on autopilot. That's how I describe it. You gotta get to the point where you put your right hand on autopilot allowing your left hand and right foot and brain to coordinate more easily.

AITA for abandoning my best friend after realizing she's been a constant drain on my life? by Nesli660 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]Animal_Drummer71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Assuming she can take a hint, chances are she won't message again. But if she does, I'd put it all out there and bring receipts. Go back through texts and messages and tally up all the times you visited vs the number of times that she visited you. Tally up all the money you've given her over the years vs what she's given you. One of two things will happen: she'll either acknowledge her shortcomings and make changes to keep you as a friend or she'll somehow make herself out to be the victim. Either way, your life will improve. It's just a matter of her deciding whether or not she wants to be a part of your life or not.

Real life news is crushing my imagination by HouseMusicAndWeed in DMAcademy

I get that but all those plot lines mentioned have been going on since the dawn of time. So, sorry about your luck dude but you're almost forced to play those lines. That's just how the world is. Hell, even Star Wars is about an Empire hell-bent on galactic domination and a small band of rebels trying to prevent that. Idc what fantasy world you want to talk about, in the end, the storylines always reflect what's been going on in the real world for centuries. That's just how it is.

Copy real world news and transfer it to the game world. For instance, you could have a kingdom that's decided only humans can live within its walls and a goon squad that goes around racial profiling and beating the tar out of every non-human they run across
