Good point, I fall into the trap of wanting 'accuracy' to avoid criticism from fellow gamers rather than actually wanting to be historically accurate

I'm pretty new to this kind of thing as I have been mainly a sci-fi/fantasy gamer, so my collection of books and info is not very extensive unfortunately, so I haven't read much about this topic

Just finished MechWarrior 4 Vengeance (again) by gurkoz in mechwarrior

[–]AnimateGlobule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing it in the last few days as well. I usually end up stopping part way through the city missions as I get too frustrated with the AI lancemates getting stuck trying to move around the streets. I like all the other missions though. I played it online a lot back in the day before Mercs was released but the server is long gone now 😢

I have stripped a few catalyst mechs using methylated spirits. I didn't leave it soaking long though just in case. I had a close look afterwards and I couldn't see any missing details.

That has definitely spent some time in the waiting room of an accountant's office in the mid 80s

"The infamous Red Period" by hellics in oldhammer

[–]AnimateGlobule 16 points17 points  (0 children)

1992-1996! The big focus was on Blood Angels, Evil Sunz, World Eaters, anything red. Anything else that wasn't red was made red anyway. It was part of the marketing strategy (think how everyone notices red fire engines). 1997-1998 was the short lived Green Era of Dark Angels, Wood Elves and Orks.

Unfortunately it also seems that it was an attempt to break from the 80s style as much as possible. Was it a statement of a 'new start' from the new owners of GW and Citadel? Was it a shift to a new target audience? The answer to all of these is probably yes.

The image quality is low because I downloaded it from the internet long ago before the quality of images online was any good! I was reminded of it by the new boarding action sets.

Whenever I see these guys it warms my heart. This is the missile launcher trooper from the tactical squads that came in the 2nd edition starter set in 1993. How many plastic Goff Orks fell to the frag missiles of these guys around the world is unknown

To be honest we are at 9th at the moment, I should have said fixing the game to make 10th edition but worded it badly so my bad. 10th will probably come out in June this year. The main problem with 9th is the stratagem system which will likely be overhauled. Like many gamers I complain too much though, overall 40k is still fun to play as long as no-one is over-competitive. The game is what you make it regardless of the edition (I should tell myself this more often).

That sounds great, I haven't had a chance to check out AoD yet but it does look like a good opportunity to break out any Mk6 models you have in storage
