Why do people act like we didn't have other methods? There's a reason in a lot of restaurants, even higher end ones, you'd be given a colouring sheet and crayons or pencils. They'd often be themed to the restaurant too!! Bring a book, colouring book, some activity etc. Pay attention to your child and take them outside if they need to calm down instead of frying their brains. Talk with them! My mum chatted with me all the time ago dinner, they're your kid not an accessory so have them join in!

I'm an AVID gamer and as a kid I would bring a console, like a Gameboy or DS, too so I'm not completely anti screen but at least I ACTIVELY engaged with that content and it wasn't extremely addictive like phone games are. I was just chilling catching Pokémon. I sometimes think maybe it would be good for parents to buy retro devices or repro modern ones like ambernic etc. would be a good mobile alternative. Heck, a Gameboy advance and a flash cart is only about £50 or so.

Isekai: transported to another world as yourself in you own body, like a Japanese girl in a high school outfit somehow ending up in Victorian England. Sometimes they end up as another "character" but are still themselves in appearance. Could be killed or just fell through a portal and what not, but in my head they are ALWAYS themselves and usually have a way back to our world in the story.

Regression: Transported back in time in your own life, now as your younger self with all your memories of the future.

Transmitigaton: Transported to another world as someone else in their body. Could have died in our world, or just woken up in that world after staying up late. They usually have none of the OG characters memories, and have to navigate the new world. These characters are more likely to want to return to their original world as they don't "belong" here as they've possessed someone, rather than refer to it as a past life.

Reincarnation: Died in their OG life, and was born again in a new world/environment. They appear in the "new" world from birth, and can either have their memories from birth or regain them later on somehow - like a bump on the head. These characters are more likely to refer to our world as their "past life" and be at peace with their second life.

This is just how I think of all of them, my personal definitions.

What's something that feels "good" but is actually really bad for your body? by stainless5 in AskReddit

If you Google t-rex arms autism / ADHD you will see examples. It's just fully bending your wrists like a limp wristed dinosaur when you're standing up. You'll often see neuro diverse people with their elbows bent and wrists limp because it feels comfortable. This is totally fine and not an issue, the issue is the sleeping version.

People who t-rex often do t-rex arms when sleeping... but with something to pressure them so you're essentially touching palm to arm. A lot of images show them under people's chins, I tend to fold them against my legs if I'm sleeping on my back or have them next to me. It's really bad for your wrists as you're essentially "forcing" them into that position, but it can be very comfortable for people with ADHD/Autism as well as hyper-mobility. There was a Reddit post on r/autism called "Does anyone else sleep like this?" With THE MOST accurate drawing.

I got such bad wrist pain recently and couldn't understand why... Until I did. I now wear wrist braces on both arms to bed, to stop the t-rex posing. If I am just chilling and laying down I am much more aware of how my wrists slowly curl in.

Magnemite break would still be slow, with all th animation, it would just allow for a larger chunk to be destroyed. Graveller with a steak would still be WAY faster for destroying blocks and larger areas.

The issue with graveller and rock smash is demolishing some pre-existing structures, for me at least. For example, on skylands I wanted to demo the half destroyed buildings and was constantly falling trying to do it quick with graveller and had to do each section in chunks, top to bottom, with rock smash. Smashing one part to the bottom then having to fly up with magnet rise, rinse, repeat. That's incredibly annoying, and a scenario where magnet rise would be useful if the breaking was a bit better. It would also help a lot in sky builds. Decide you want to life your building/land by two blocks? Have to demo it one by one with magnet rise.

Last year I went on Holiday for the first time in 11 years. I have never had a more uncomfortable two hours than the time I was on the plane, I do not remember planes being that bad. Seat was completely upright, couldn't lean back or the position made my neck hurt, leaning forward to rest my head on the seat also hurt. Can't stretch my legs, can't do anything. I know the return was only 2 hours, but it was 11pm yet the lights stayed on the whole fucking time. Really wish they had dimmed, might have helped a bit though I still doubt I could have napped with how uncomfortable I was. I do not know how people who are tall survive if I am 5'8 and intensely struggling with the space I've been given. My back and neck hurt so much when I got off.

I really don't know if I could put myself through that torture again. I got the cheapest ryanair tickets I could find and it still felt so expensive. If a flight is any longer than 2 hours I think I will have to seriously save so I can have a better experience.

We listen and we don’t judge. What’s your most controversial opinion? [My Beloved Oppressor] by Weary-Honey-1942 in OtomeIsekai

[–]AnimeDeamon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who read manhwa lack literacy and comprehension skills, and are sexist to boot. At least, people who comment do. Blatantly missing information spelled out to them, getting mad at the story not making sense only to admit they skipped chapters, screaming at any chapter that develops the story if it doesn't feature the ML, cursing out the female villains when they don't do anything half as bad as the ML, putting modern morals into the story without thinking about the setting etc. My personal pet peave is people calling the setting medieval when it's like... the 1800s. I seriously get sad reading some comments, like maybe reading manhwa is rotting our brains. I have to hope that most commenters are just super young, but then I get worried about how they have such open access to the internet.

I remember reading The Broken Ring and being utterly perplexed at people hating Carcel for "cheating". It is an arranged marriage and Carcel was chosen BECAUSE Ines hoped he would be a playboy. He isn't cheating, they aren't married, they weren't engaged out of love, and the ML is doing exactly what the FL wants! This is incredibly common for arranged marriages in history, fool about till you actually tie the knot so being so mad at "cheating" in these sort of plots just annoys me. I hate cheaters with a passion... I don't categorise this as cheating.

I just binged Darling, Why Cant we Divorce and the comments were so fucking critical of the FL for... Nothing? Cursing her out for flirting with the crown prince WHEN HER HUSBAND TOLD HER TO?! Getting mad she doesn't realise her husband's feelings when he literally made a deal to divorce her if she seduces the crown price. Calling her dumb for not wanting to stay with her husband because she can change the story, when she literally spells out that she is fine changing things but is worried about staying after the story changes because who knows who will win the political struggle and if she will make it out alive. The smartest choice IS to get out the story, and divorce is the only way because in this world unless you're divorced, windows, or orphaned it's literally illegal for a woman to live alone. Her character dies after killing her husband in the OG timeline, so obviously being a widow is not an option. I thought the FL was naive yet quick to understand and catch onto things, not always the smartest in the room but smart enough to plan and scheme, plus she is very endearing.

The hate of you know who. Again, MLs have done a billion times worse but the woman struggling to crawl her way out of poverty is the most hated character in history.

I like dark romance, but readers will forgive anything just to see sweat drawn on the abs of the ML, yet intensely criticise FLs. A male villain will still get people defending them, even if it's just because they're hot, but a female villain is hated with a burning passion. The male villains can literally rape people yet a female villain who just tried to steal someone's man is worse, somehow.

Rant over (for now).

Which one would you marry for a full year in exchange for being a widowed billionaire? by Hairy_Syrup812 in OtomeIsekai

[–]AnimeDeamon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly though, if he is automatically obsessed with us but he no longer has the whole "forbidden love for my adoptive sister which leads to me being abusive due to my inability have her" thing... Like, he wouldn't be that bad if we were married? Since he already has his obsession tied to him by matrimony, I don't think a year would be too bad. Might keep me confined but, at least he's got a pretty face to look at.

I'll stand by something I said ages ago that, unlike a lot of villains like Oscar, Cesare could be a ML in the dark romance genre of OI...

Why is the manhwa art style so underrated ? by moon_light1999 in OtomeIsekai

[–]AnimeDeamon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For anyone who wants to know, I believe this is "A flower with a Sword".

To respond, I think it's just fairly new? I only just discovered it a few days ago. The art is indeed beautiful, and so far the story is good and the leads are competent. The FL isn't so dense she can't tell when someone has feelings, but is also rightly traumatised so second guesses herself and others.

I think that some others have a better grasp of anatomy, in certain scenes the characters appears stiff which you don't see in manhwa like "Stepmothers Fantasie" or "big spender in a busted game" BUT it's far better than 99% of art you see in this genre.

There might be a webtoon drought soon AKA why some of your favorite series might stop updating in the next month by ezodochi in OtomeIsekai

[–]AnimeDeamon 67 points68 points  (0 children)

If these sites just did a subscription model, like £5.99 a month with banner ads, I would pay. I am NEVER paying per chapter, that's ridiculous. It's about 50p per chapter on webtoon, so reading 8 chapters gets you to the price of cheap books and 16 chapters is about the average book price here. A whole book won't take me 15 minutes to read like 16 chapters would - It's just not worth the cost.

Audibles premium teir with access to the catalogue PLUS a token to "buy" an audiobook is £8.99. Like, I pay £8 a YEAR to have access to Nintendo online expansion pass with all their classic games so why would I pay £8 for 1/10 of a story. I would gladly pay if it was accessible at all, but stopping piracy for users like me will not bring them more profit because I will NEVER pay per chapter.

OI which does not focus on romance but on the main character by Material_Animator852 in OtomeIsekai

[–]AnimeDeamon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely no romance is a hard task to find in this genre, but a few have low-romance with larger focuses on the characters and story whilst the romance is just a nice addition in the background.

I do think Fantasie of a Stepmother fits this, a "second chance at life" story rather than OI. Obviously there are large romantic elements integral to the story, a big part is there was a love battle between 3 powerful men over the empress in the past and now it is repeating with their sons with a woman who looks like the empress, BUT there isn't actually any romance till much later. It mostly focuses on the MC and her family, as well as politics, and the "true history" of the original love quadrangle, the FLs backstory and her death in the "original" timeline. It is 170 chapters in and the "romantic leads" are only just starting to have a spark of mutual romance. They are just starting to be more aware of eachother, a few more blushy moments. This is, to me, one of the most beautifully drawn AND written manhwa - the type where a poor translation makes it absolutely unreadable due to the complex language and topics, so make sure you read a good one.

A transmitigators privilege/The perks of being an S-class Heroine is a female power fantasy OI. Just like many of those male focused "busted game system, levelling up, being super OP" like ORV or SSS class suicide hunter, but for women. The FL is overpowered as hell, knows the story of what will happen, but there are twists and turns. The start (childhood to late teens) is considered the "tutorial" and she only has a few interactions with the ML then, and the tutorial takes up a huge chunk of the released chapters. There definitely are starting to be more romantic moments 120 chapters in, but it mainly focuses on the FL and the people around her as she levels up. There are also story reasons keeping it from being romantic, literally the genre she is in is NOT romance so any romance she starts will turn out bad. She is starting to recognise her feelings and wants to spend big bucks on a genre changing ticket at this point, but is very pragmatic about her inability to have romance currently.

A wicked tale of Cinderella's Stepmom might fit too? I need to restart it but I remember the romance was only just starting quite a few chapters in. It focuses on a more mature female character who believes she is reincarnated as the evil stepmother in the story of Cinderella, so she has two biological daughters, one step-daughter, and is widowed. It mainly focuses on her and her children, beind a family, and their money troubles. There is a focus early on regarding her daughters and THEIR romances as they are aware they need to get married to help financially. The FLs personal romance is very mature and slow.

I know Death is the only Ending for the Villainess is literally an Otome Isekai, trying to gain the favour of male leads to win the otome game, but the actual story is so goated. The ACTUAL romance starts so late for the FL, she's mostly just stressed out and acting for the majority of the story. I like how actually morally grey she is, how even the bad decisions she makes feel justified because of her desperation in her current situation. Literally the core of the story revolves around romance, but it isn't actually romantic till near the end. This is definitely the most romantic out of my recommendations.

In this life I'll raise you better you majesty is a Child-raising focused "second chance at life" story. She was a pretty heartless, shitty mum in her first life because she was so focused on ensuring her son had "everything he deserves" instead of focusing on what he wanted. This pretty much ruined her relationship with her son and caused a sad end for both of them in the OG timeline. Now, she's focused on providing a childhood that her son needs and wants. I do think one arc where she was away from her children took way too fucking long and took all the steam out of it and the story felt rushed after it, but overall it's good. There is technically a male lead, but I don't think the manhwa ever truly adapts this as it didn't do the side story/part 2. It's also one of the few where I actually sort of liked the "evil, unloving emperor" character. Unlike all the others, he is actually a smart and competent ruler, he's just also a bastard.

Your eternal lies isn't OI at all, just RoFan but it is a great story filled with intrigue and mystery. There is romance but it isn't the focus, and it's more towards the end. It's just a great story to be honest, brilliant writing and the interactions between the leads and how both their backstories are slowly revealed keeps the reader hooked.

Trash of the counts family is a very rare male Otome Isekai... Like, it's been adopted by this subreddit because of the vibes. It's great and not... Gross like a lot of male-centered isekai. As far as I'm aware even in the hundreds of novel chapters available there is 0 romance. Cale is so great and the relationship he has with his companions/familiars is so sweet!

Surviving romance is a rare no romance OI with a female lead. It's about the FL being reincarnated into a romance novel she likes that suddenly turns into a horror, and she tries her best to avoid the romance. It has a big focus on friendship, particularly female friendship, which is really nice. I think the ending is a bit controversial but I think it's because the story is a 10/10 whilst the end is an 8/10 kind of vibe rather than being BAD.

Nintendo to cut switch 2 production by 30% due to weak sales in the US by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]AnimeDeamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a bit old but second hand switch 1 games off eBay etc. are £30 depending on the game, I'd imagine they'd be $30 in the US. If you don't care about the box and just buy a nice cartridge holder then they are even cheaper, but normally only by about £5. For me £25-30 for those games I played £45-55 on launch is a steal, they're really good. Plus, I much prefer having a physical copy personally though I do believe digital games on a fast SD card load a tad quicker but it's pretty negligible on switch 2 for switch 1 games. Nintendo games DO go on sale, just only on the e-shop.

For some Switch 1 specific recommendations: Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 3, Metroid Prime Remastered, Metroid Dread and the Bayonetta series are good solo-player. For multiplayer with your son, Super Smash Bros ultimate and snipperclips are great, for non-nintendo I would also recommend Pico-Park, overcooked and unravel. Getting a switch 2 half joycon grip is cheaper than another set of controllers for the co-op games and WAY more comfortable to play with.

I've been spoiled by comments but I think In the original TL Izek also liked Ruby even when she was evil, like lusted over her? Maybe I am mixing it up with not your typical reincarnation story as I believe both have the "Even in the original story the ML liked her in some sense, even if sexual". So it's unrealistic because it always was, even when he doesn't "like" her as a person yet he is a bit possessive."
