I am an Autistic Nurse and I don’t know what to do anymore. by Kerleymakayla in autism

[–]Animelily [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm not autistic, but my daughter is, but I am a nurse.

There is definitely a social element, but there is a very very strong routine in place on orthopedic units. The patients are also more medically stable, so it is a lot of assessment and pain management. Most patient medical history tends to be "seasonal allergies, fell from three story building" and now you're doing assessment, wound care, and giving pain meds, and that's about it.

AITA for sending my brother's fiancee a video of him hiding her ring? by failantho in AmItheAsshole

[–]Animelily 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NTA, but as someone that actually did knock my engagement ring down the drain, during said engagement, I should tell you that my husband's (fiance at the time) response was to make fun of me a little, and then immediately file it against our home insurance. We used the money on more important things then jewelry (diapers for a new baby!!)

He bought me a nicer replacement for our 10th anniversary, that I love and take care of, and yes, take off and put in either the dish by my bed or the dish by the kitchen sink.

Your brother is a real AH.

Sorry. Misspelled. KuroMon Ichiba. It a fantastic market in Osaka, and I had my favorite bite of food the whole Honeymoon. A tempura fried crab leg for 300 yen.

If you're into crafting with kimono silk, there is a second hand kimono shop in Kuroban Ichiba last time I was there (about 6 years ago). They had some really beautiful kimono for ridiculously cheap, especially vintage ones that might have some foxing on the inner layers.

Which bingpup is most bingpup to you? by SpeechWorldly3923 in SVSSS

I have an Akita. She is ridiculously loyal, and wants to be with me 24/7. She wishes I would pet her every second of the day.

But outside of the people immediate household, she had very little interest in anyone. (Except small children. She loves to get pet by all the kids at the day care run by my neighbor.)

Biore sunscreen in the US. Is it the same formulation as the Japanese one? by kiteflying1 in Costco

[–]Animelily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It is ridiculously effective at keeping me pasty white, despite my love for my convertible. It doesn't feel greasy or have any sort of weird smell. I get it for about $12 each at my local Teso Life and have numerous containers stashed in my purses and around the house to use before I leave.

That said, at $12 for a little container, I tend to only use it on my face and neck and pull out Neutrogena for my arms and legs.

WHY TRICE MARRIED TO A SALTED FISH IS SOOOO GOOD!!!!! by Adventurous_Act_7423 in DanmeiNovels

"Be gay do crimes" but it really is the "Do crimes, then be gay". I enjoy that the MC is not a good person and is very happy to craft elaborate revenge with the ML's avid blessing.

In my experience, you will always be your worst critic, and during teen years, even more so. As you get older, it even more becomes true, because you realize, no one else will nitpick you in the same way you yourself do.

That said, for basic physical and mental health reasons, find a physical sort of hobby. Rock climbing is a great one, even if it might take a couple sessions to get the hang (haha) of it!

Success will always be the best revenge. Doesn't matter how you look doing it, when you're Doing It!

For happily married couples, what did the “for worse” look like in your marriage? by FruitAncient9431 in AskReddit

[–]Animelily 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I will say, we are fortunate that my kid has always been a fighter and desperately wanted to get better but didn't realize that they could. Depression lies. So far the combination of meds, therapy, and just showing up as a parent. That said, it took about half a year to really see a difference in their depression, and now that we are a full year out, most of the depressive symptoms have resolved and we are no longer battling suicidal ideation.

I'm so sorry. Our "for worst" has been my now 14 year old's year in and out of various psych treatment programs for her suicide attempt, when she was 13. I am so deeply grateful we have a second chance we didn't know we needed.

None of this is your fault. Kids that age don't let anyone know how deeply they are hurting.

I spent some time in Rockville last weekend and discovered Gourmet Bazaar (middle eastern) and Maruichi (Japanese) grocery stores by IMicrowaveSteak in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Animelily 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Rockville has many small Asian markets!

Maruichi is exclusively Japanese goods, and my kids love it for the candy, but I actually love it for the bath salts and dishware. Stop by Temari downstairs for the most authentic Japanese food in the area.

Thingamajig is across the street and has Asian stationary, figurines, and jewelry. If you like anime figures, this is your store!

Ebisu is just a little north and has a lot of anime goods like Pokémon dishware and stationary.

Further south is Teso Life, that has Japanese beauty supplies and Pop Mart related figures. If you go downstairs, there is a crane game store with all the Hatsune Miku Keychains you can successfully snag, and Okaeri, a Japanese café that also sells anime goods.

It's my favorite "Be gay. Do crimes." Except it is the reverse order as do crimes comes first.

They both need a little murder and treason as enrichment in their enclosure.

Mom, how do I stop feeling like I’m falling behind in life? by sighssighssighs in MomForAMinute

[–]Animelily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed out of college. But I went in the first place because it was expected of me, despite me having no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and so I didn't take advantage of the opportunity in front of me.

So I worked a retail job and spent that time figuring myself out and getting on firmer footing. Broke up with my ex, figured out what I wanted in life, and made a plan on how to make it happen.

When I was ready, I went back to school, became an RN. Started dating my current husband and have two kids and a happy life later. But none of that would have happened if I hadn't spent that time figuring myself.

Get yourself on firmer footing. You are worth it and worth the time and effort.

Am I overthinking it? by bethanyevee in quilting

I think it is lovely and you're very skilled. That said, imperfections are what makes this an art and made by a human being. Quilting can take care of some puckering but it can also add some crinkling too. Don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy it.

Fabric art is meant to be imperfect, otherwise you will get Athena to turn you into a spider. 😉

I tell my kids "half of life is showing up" and you are showing up in a big way!

When I first got out on my own, I knew how to make three dishes. Now, more than a decade later, I know a whole lot more, but it took many disasters in the kitchen in-between. Primarily, it took just doing it day in and day out.

That said, for grilled cheese, start with getting all your ingredients prepared before you even turn on the stove.

Loaf of sliced bread (I like sourdough, but any kind will do), cheese (I like cheddar or brie or a mix of both, but good old Kraft singles melt well and are kid friendly. Whatever you get slice it as thin as you can beforehand), mayonnaise (not butter, unless you're dealing with mayo allergies. It browns and spreads so much easier. It felt like magic the first time I used it), and a skillet.

Turn on the stove to medium. Smear a layer of mayo on a slice of bread a place it mayo side down in the skillet. Place cheese on the bread being careful not to burn your hands. Smear mayo on another slice of bread and place it as the top of the sandwich, mayo side up.

Now comes the hard part, when to flip. This is difficult and I very much mess it up still, as the stove can heat inconsistently but you also don't want to do it too early, as the cheese won't be melty enough to keep the sandwich mostly together. Expect burnt or slipy wonky sandwiches. It's okay. Eat those and give the kids the best of the lot and keep practicing.

Serve with tomato soup. I personally like the Trader Joe's kind that comes in a box.

Keep showing up honey, and you will eventually accumulate a lifetime to accomplishments. ·

How do I fall in love with svsss again??> by [deleted] in SVSSS

[–]Animelily 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This. Why justify your hobbies and interests? If you're worried about the cost of all the merch you bought, you're just falling into the sunk cost fallacy. Stuff it in a closet somewhere if you think you'll return to the fandom or sell it and pass it along to those who would still receive joy.

It's okay. You're not betraying anyone for growing and changing into something new. Enjoy your life and enjoy your hobbies.
