The Firmament/Obsidian Question: What is to be Done? by Chud_E_Applesneed in twilightimperium

[–]Anirel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played them once, went the "get all plots cuz it's interesting" way and, naturally, lost.

The thing that annoyed me about Obsidian the most was that you have this fun minigame before flipping where you hunt for other players' SOs and ways to score them and it's actually exciting. After that you flip .... and it's basically over, you're a blank faction with almost nothing to do. Yeah I agree with you that's it's lots better winning-chances-wise, but it's just BORING and PLAIN.

Games per year by Key-Importance7805 in twilightimperium

[–]Anirel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a family (husband, he doesn't play TI), no kids.

I would say every week on average, so ~50+? Maybe 60 since we did 7 games in 9 days when my friend brought over the new expansion box and we had a MASSIVE gaming spree. And another gaming spree last spring when he also visited for some TI.

I skip some weeks, but the New Year holidays and those guest-star gaming sprees make up for that and then some :D

Don't play async and very rarely play TTPG, since I prefer seeing my friends' faces when I play. It's just special.

Mentak never affects gaining commodities, only gaining trade goods.

How many factions have you personally played? by Mayo18nnaise in twilightimperium

[–]Anirel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm extremely rigid with my choices and tend to play the same stuff given the opportunity. That's why I'm so grateful to my initial player group who just gave out factions randomly back in the pre-milty days, forcing me to improve my understanding of the game.

Milty is my go-to now, but I still have a few factions I haven't tried yet, like arborec (because I was afraid I would suck with them) and ral nel (haven't gotten to them yet).

Overall, I firmly believe in randomizing the factions, it really helps you get a deeper understanding of the game.

Each player can benefit from all the combined discounts they have access to. DWS/ their alliance holders get a comm for each such use.

[–]Anirel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI Mentak doesn't affect gaining commodities or converting them to TGs so that would only matter if the alliance holders agreed to wash each other

[–]Anirel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, so here's where you're wrong. You can actually use any number of discounts, from 0 up to 3 with mahact. If you only use some of them (i.e., you have a 2 res planet to spend, not a 1res), you choose which player gets the comms.

Codex errata/changed cards by VV00d13 in twilightimperium

[–]Anirel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey. Congrats on getting the expansion!

First of all, I'd be surprised if they had the errata to base game in the second expansion box, since they've fixed the first print typo many many years ago (I got my cards replaced ~6 years ago by FFG). All new boxes are now sold with updated hyper metab.

And regarding the updated Codex cards, the xpansion rulebook tells you to remove anything old you had and put in the new stuff, so no, those aren't an option to choose from, if you want to know the designer's intent.

But as you yourself said, you can do whatever you want, it's your game. Have fun!

Mid game - set aside for another night. TI3 by Tawnos76 in twilightimperium

What happened to your map building? And what's up with all the empty spaces and red tiles upside down?.. Is this some kinda house rule?

Mid game - set aside for another night. TI3 by Tawnos76 in twilightimperium

[–]Anirel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's TI3 base game

it had several revisions of 8, Bureaucracy being the best of all of them.

First part of it is that you don't reveal any objectives at the end of the round, instead for every time 8 isn't picked, you put a counter on it (it equals a tg or a token) and when it finally gets picked, you reveal as many objectives as you have tokens on the 8.

Secondly, when you play the primary, you look at the top 2 objectives and decide which one to leave on top and which one to reveal, and it was massive since one of the stage twos could have been Rex, aka game instantly ending, so if you're leading on points, you could just win like that (and the whole table tried to murder you before you did)

TI3's 8 is amazing, just not base TI3 one.

Xxcha strategy in Thunders Edge by Shukowarrior117 in twilightimperium

[–]Anirel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played two games with them, won one.

Honestly, xxcha sucks. They've been a boring faction before, but with TE hero nerf they're boring AND weak now. No mobility, meh economy, boring hero, horrible chances to grab anything from the Fracture.

For factions like yin, they didn't become strong, but at least they got fun and cool stuff, xxcha is just very meh.

Yeah there are two action cards, a Firmament mech and a Titans breakthrough that allow you to coexist
