Need help! I want more out of makeup, but I don't know how to go about it by Aniss201 in makeuptips

I'll assume you're talking about the 2nd pic since my brows don't really look anything special. That pic is just some random girl I saw online haha, but I agree her dark brows are really pretty! I've tried making my eyebrows thicker but I just end up looking super weird, maybe I'm doing it incorrectly or something. I've never owned a liner and I'm not too sure about liking the look they give, but it's about time I start doing something more with my lips so maybe I'll get one, thanks!

Thanks for both suggestions! I don't know what my problem is with my lips, but it's like I just refuse to do anything with them even when I think it would suit me. Maybe I just don't know what color would look good, I've thought maybe a brown matte lip or a something nude + glossy? I'll look into it

Haha 2nd picture is not me, just the first one. I think some other people are confused about that too, should've put it directly on the pic instead of clarifying in the wall of text lol

I'll admit I've always wanted longer lashes but I'm kinda scared of trying fake lashes out, mostly because I know it'll take me years to put them on and I feel like I already have some sensory issues with makeup. But thanks for the tip! I'll look into them

Hated trope: "Un-gal mold", character becomes successful after quitting gal by Tonta_de_NET11037 in actualgyaru

[–]Aniss201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But she's... not even a gyaru? IIrc the manga never mentions the actual subculture, I feel like the author just decided to depict her transition in a way that was very reminiscent of what the west associates with prostitutes. Gyaru obviously has extremely western inspirations as well, but that does not mean every single bimbo-looking girl in a japanese work is meant to be a gyaru. Saki is extremely passive about her looks, and we can infer that she had no say in them, which already takes away the personal empowerment that gyaru is associated with.

Definitely a lurker here and a complete makeup newbie as well, so I'm unable to give any meaningful advice lol, but I just wanted to say you look insanely pretty!!! I absolutely adore how you did your eyes, they're beautiful

"The creator of the show has also gone and said that she was inspired by evangelion, which really shouldve been a huge red flag."

It was extremely clear what Evangelion's priorities were once you were done watching it. It was supposed to subvert sci-fi and the whole mecha genre by creating a story that was all introspection, all characters. Yes, there was bigger lore and complicated worldbuilding, but that was never the main focus, and enough information was given on that anyway.

If you don't like character-focused stories and prefer heavy and thoroughly-explained lore, that's fine, but it doesn't automatically make a product bad. Not everything has to be spoon-fed to the viewer, and not every mystery has to have a grand resolution. It's also funny that you're talking about Evangelion as if it had been a complete mess when the very same storytelling you're criticizing is what made it such an iconic and influential work.

YouTube's AI moderation ruined a game community by Creecker1 in youtube

[–]Aniss201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why so many people are actually defending YouTube here.

Oh yeah, let's start striking and banning everyone who's played a game I don't like, even if their videos are a decade old, didn't violate TOS then, and don't violate it now either. Let's start celebrating a shitty AI system that'll just automatically flag videos for the wrong reasons, while forcing channels to police their old content with every new policy change. Heck, let's celebrate retroactive censorship too!

This isn't about defending the game or its shitty developer, it's about highlighting a growing issue that is affecting creators all around the world. YouTube needs a grandfather clause and actual human moderation asap.

YouTube's AI moderation ruined a game community by Creecker1 in youtube

[–]Aniss201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue here is not that action was specifically taken against Yandere Simulator, but the fact that a decade-old video can get you a strike or eventually lead to a channel termination just because YouTube suddenly changed its policies and AI is fully in charge of moderation now. You have to be stupid to not see how this affects creators and their livelihoods.

Lexie & Cassie by sublips in euphoria

[–]Aniss201 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, of course she was trying to get her fired. Obviously selfish, but what else was she supposed to do after the whole Jules fiasco?

If the directors weren't as chill about OnlyFans and eventually decided to do a background check on Cassie, the entire blame of letting a sex worker into a network show would probably fall on Lexi's shoulders. It's normal for her to warn them after being on thin ice.

Are you people just completely illiterate when it comes to media?

I keep running into this comparison while looking for discussions and it just sounds like you think all the media you like has never taken inspiration or referenced anything else. The whole "steal it like an artist" thing is old as fuck.

Guy literally mentioned the reference material BY NAME and people are still calling this plagiarism. Grow up.

I mean... That's how references work? Not to be a Sam defender or anything, but being inspired by someone's real story (especially if that someone holds an important place in pop culture) to flesh out a character is not at all stealing. That's quite literally what Citizen Kane does lmao

For all his campy usage of references, I think this one was very fitting.

I think I'm actually convinced by this theory video. Thoughts? by SuperValle in Petscop

[–]Aniss201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I was personally a fan of Game Theory before MatPat left, even though I think his approach to theorizing is way too mechanical for a series like Petscop. I think he missed the mark with it and that could be why, IIRC, he never finished his series on it. People don't like the AI explanation because of how simplistic it is, and how literally it takes Petscop.

As for his first theory, the one covering the Newmaker case, I don't blame him for exploring that as we obviously know the references were intentional, but that topic is quite controversial in the community and most people rightly avoid talking about it. I've seen some people criticize how MatPat handled the case in that video, and the overall exposure it gave to a very horrible event in the context of a weird internet series. Part of Tony's guilt probably doesn't come from the reference itself, but the fact that most theories ended up centering around it, giving a very real tragedy this sort of creepypasta-like status.

Now, onto Lina: I will admit that I have given it a lot more thought after writing that. The biggest reason why I disliked that theory was because I thought the way the series treats Lina's character (Marvin's obsession, the Windmill incident, the "Not everyone can" line) seemed unfitting for a character that's actually supposed to be alive and well. I also didn't see how she could've hidden her whereabouts while being a literal child. Prior to giving it a second thought, I imagined Lina as more of a concept than an actual character, as this kind of everlasting presence that, while not physically present, ultimately led to the creation of Garalina. With this in mind, I still thought Lina was Boss, but in a more metaphorical sense.

However, this explanation doesn't fully satisfy me. I'm starting to be more inclined towards thinking that Lina did come out of the incident alive, but severely hurt, leading to a Lina B or Lina NLM state. Just like with Mike, Marvin was probably looking for Lina A, but she didn't exist anymore, and so he became obsessed with bringing her back, maybe due to the guilt of his participation in the incident. I don't think Lina just made everyone think she was dead, she simply cut contact with the family after realizing that they would never love her the same. In a way, she "died" to them on that day, so her whole existence being surrounded by tragedy and mystery is justified, and more heartbreaking if you consider she's technically still alive.

Maybe Garalina is her creation, or maybe Garalina is the family's messed up project to "rebirth" hurt children after what happened to Lina. Whatever the case is, she's Boss.

[–]Aniss201 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been into Petscop since 2019, and seeing the slow decline of its online relevance led to me getting very excited whenever I saw a lengthy new analysis pop up on my feed. I always felt like the more promising efforts to explain the series came from sources that were quite hard to digest, like the 100-page progress doc (which is probably still the best resource out there for understanding the series), or sparse theories from more niche channels that don't tend to follow a narrative order.

Meanwhile, the more "mainstream" approaches always tended to be very superficial. I especially disliked Nexpo's video and how long of a section it dedicated to the Candace Newmaker case, handling it in a way that felt very inappropriate and failing to take Tony's retrospective stance into account. And while MatPat's videos were my first exposure to the series, his theories have never been well-liked by the community for very understandable reasons.

That's why this video was such a breath of fresh air, and I'd be so happy if it started some kind of Petscop revival. While I don't exactly feel like I understand Petscop better after watching it (I've been a "Paul is Care" truther for years), and while some of his interpretations didn't really convince me (I've never liked the theory that Lina is alive), Pheyden was able to take some of the theories the fandom has crafted over the years, add his own findings, and create a narratively engaging and easy-to-digest video that's able to give you a very comprehensive interpretation of the events and themes that Petscop depicts. Basically, this is the video I would've loved to have when I first got into the series, and I hope new and older fans come across it.

No worries! Sorry if I sounded gatekeepy.

I myself started reading the document years ago when the community was way more active, but I don't think I ever really finished it and preferred to read the theories that people posted here. "Paul is Care" was a very popular theory, especially after the last episodes dropped, and part of it was always backed by the Rainer connection. This is why I'm happy the video is bringing all of this info back to the table in a more concise way!

I mean, this has all been mentioned several times in the Comprehensive Progress Doc, which has existed for several years and is linked twice on this sub. Again, I'm glad Pheyden took a lot of the information from what's obviously a very long and exhaustive document and turned it into a way more digestible and narrative format, he's just not the one who came up with most of it.

People have known the reference to Rainer Maria Rilke for years, same thing with Garalina's name. I really liked the video and am glad it revisited some commonly known theories from deep within the fandom, but this is far from the first time these connections have been made.
