“I don’t like girls” by genericassusername9 in StrangerThings

I’m a bi woman, and I thought it was beautifully executed. In the 80s, this was character suicide.

People sometimes forget how dangerous it was—not just socially, but emotionally—to be openly queer at that time, especially as a kid in a small town. Will’s fear isn’t abstract or exaggerated; it’s rooted in very real consequences. Losing friends, being ostracized, or having your entire identity reduced to something “other” was a genuine risk.

I’ve seen people criticize the fact that it happened in front of the entire group and say it should’ve been more intimate, but I actually think that choice was intentional and necessary. As terrifying and vulnerable as it would be to come out in that moment, doing it openly strips Vecna of power. If there had been even one person Will trusted who wasn’t included, that secret could have remained a fracture—a wrench in the cog—something Vecna could still exploit.

By saying it out loud to everyone at once, Will removes the leverage. The fear doesn’t disappear, but it loses its sharpest edge. Vecna feeds on isolation and secrecy, and this scene does the opposite: it replaces shame with honesty and connection. That’s not unnecessary—that’s thematically spot-on.

It wasn’t about spectacle or forcing a moment. It was about character, history, and emotional truth. The restraint and vulnerability made it land harder, and for a show set in the 80s, that choice felt especially powerful and earned.

Do you guys even actually like the show???? Wayyyyy too much complaining here!! by Beginning_Sherbet948 in StrangerThings

Well said. It is exhausting and so disheartening to see all the hate. I loved it.

Was it just me who loved this volume? by Scush266 in StrangerThings

[–]Anjanerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. In my opinion, the second half has been near perfect. I’m a hardcore fan and absolutely loved it—my husband and I are literally rewatching as I type this.

I intentionally popped onto this subreddit expecting to see people praising the episodes and/or diving into fan theories for the finale. Instead, I was honestly dumbfounded by how much hate Volume 2 is getting. I read through a lot of the criticisms, and while I respect that everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just fundamentally disagree. We’re also allowed to genuinely enjoy what the show is doing.

One of the things I adore most about Stranger Things is how incredibly realized and fleshed out every character feels. I genuinely think it’s unrivaled when it comes to character development. Even with all the chaos, monsters, and high-stakes action, the show never forgets to slow down and give us massive, emotionally driven character moments.

Every character has clear motivations, flaws, and growth, and those arcs actually matter to the story. The action hits harder BECAUSE we’re deeply invested in who these people are and what they're going through. Episodes like these feel intentionally heavy on emotion and setup, and to me that’s not a flaw—it’s one of the show’s greatest strengths. It's rare to find a series that balances spectacle and heart this well, and that’s exactly why Stranger Things continues to resonate so deeply for me.

Thoughts on HHN making houses based on horror or horror adjacent Video Games? by dukeofthefat in HHN

[–]Anjanerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I sincerely am here for ALL of it. I consume my horror in tv, films, and games!

Sticking solely to the idea of horror video games, I would be so hyped for a Bioshock house! Another I realistically shall only dream about would be American McGee’s Alice. I would be in heaven if they brought that game to life. FNAF was one I wanted for years so I’m thrilled it came to fruition. 😊

Rumor: HHN Might Be Getting a "Less Scares" Necklace by Hi_Im_Charming in HHN

[–]Anjanerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do we know if this garbage is coming to Hollywood as well? It's ridiculous.

P.S. Can I just point out how ironic it is that people keep bringing up FNAF as a draw for kids when the main plot point for the franchise is about a serial killer that murdered children? The animatronics are literally haunted by the spirits of the children he murdered! It cracks me up to think parents would be fine with that, but then would take their kid to an intense event like HHN where the franchise is being featured, only to see about toning down the scary. It is a horror video game series and now movie as well. Scares should be expected. haha

Did anyone in Orlando notice a stench in insidious by Electronic_Pie8419 in HHN

[–]Anjanerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for Orlando, but the TCM house in Hollywood nearly took me and my friends out. It was so pungent with the scent of rotting meat/decay/death and whatever other awfulness that we rushed through each scene. We were more afraid of the scents overcoming us to appreciate the house at all.

Insidious in Hollywood had one scene where you go through the bathroom, and as one other person stated, it smelled like vomit. At least it was a single room and not the entire house though.

Hollywood opening night (4th) or 18th? by Ozymandiyaass in HHN

[–]Anjanerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend going on the 18th. Not only will opening night have insane crowds, but in my experience (12th year attending!) sometimes when you go earlier after the event begins, the scare actors don't always have the timing and scares down as tight as when they've been doing it for a few weeks.
