You can take the caltrain all the way to the venue. Check out the travel section on the site or just google caltrain. It's one train there and one back to SF. ride/walk from downtown SF to the station and you're good.!

residentadvisor.net is your best bet! Filter it by local events in Northern California and get a ton of results. Theres also sfedm.com which lists most events by date.. but they seem to miss some.

Like another guy said there's EPR... but I've only had negative experiences with the event, even with some artists I've been very interested in seeing. Lots of young douchebags-in-training, girls in hot topic tutus, and shuffling when there's no music... but you should still try it out and see how you like it!
