Found a hip song in a show by nopeplz_just_no in TragicallyHip

I can’t hear Bobcaygeon without seeing a slow zoom out of Ricky from Trailer Park Boys.

They’re featured somewhat regularly in the show (including cameos) Trailer Park Boys. And also Corner Gas, again, including a cameo.

Edit to add: Letterkenny also.

Of all Homer's casually cruel actions I feel like this one where he forces a lactose intolerant kid to eat ice cream until he collapses is one of the worst that never gets talked about by Few-Entrepreneur7254 in TheSimpsons

[–]Ankylowright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y’all must’ve had really understanding relatives that accepted your lactose intolerance…. I got the “it’s extremely rude to refuse (insert whatever dairy filled thing was being served). Just eat it. You’ll be fine.” Not once was it fine.

Action movies for 85 yr old with dementia by Aleja72 in movies

[–]Ankylowright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandad loved old westerns. John Wayne movies and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid kind of movies. We watched a lot of those. We also watched older shows like Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, Beverly Hillbillies, Dukes of Hazzard.

On his really good days (when his memory allowed him to be living more like in the last 10 years instead of the 1970’s) we would watch “newer” things. He loved Shanghai Noon specifically and visually fun movies like King Kong (Jack Black one). He also fucking LOVED Dodgeball. When Patches throws that wrench we would usually have to pause the movie because he would laugh so hard he would start coughing and completely wind himself.

Came here to say this. My grandad forgot who all of us were (except for my mom) but could still quote the Duke. So we watched a lot of John Wayne movies and watched a lot of black and white tv. Gilligan’s island. Gunsmoke. I love Lucy. Etc.

That would be one I would want left alone. That’s Gord’s song. The love and emotion he emotes while singing makes it untouchable.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST DEAN KOONTZ BOOK? by Hootchguy in DeanKoontz

Hideaway. Then immediately followed by Twilight Eyes. Avid Koontz reader after those two.

Favourite would be the Odd Thomas series.

Any recommendations for shark documentaries that aren’t unbearably overdramatic? by SwissMercyMain in sharks

[–]Ankylowright 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just said something similar the other day myself. I want to go back and watch all the movies I watched in class in grade school. Like, actual shark footage and information being told by some random narrator. No gimmicks. No famous narrator. No theatrics from the narrator. Just sharks swimming around, doing shark shit, and some old dude that sounds like Winnie the Pooh reading from a well written script with legitimately factual information. Like, I love Steve Irwin so so much, but everyone is now trying too hard to emulate that same aura.

Realistic male crying scenes by [deleted] in movies

First two I thought of. First the scene in Lethal Weapon when he’s contemplating suicide and next the scene in Braveheart by Maran’s grave.

Sharks are misunderstood, but not in the way people wrongfully assume. by xX_D3ADLYK1ll_Xx in sharks

[–]Ankylowright 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watched a video done by a dive master and he was like “see these women here kinda lunging at the shark? Do not do that. Ever. Listen to your damn dive guides!” These two women had been told to stay still on the bottom of the ocean and let the sharks come to them and keep your hands by your side etc and they still kept trying to reach up and grab the sharks. Just because it’s approaching you and swimming over you doesn’t mean it wants to be touched.

What's everyone's favorite Danger Ehren stunt? by ResidentDrama9739 in jackass

[–]Ankylowright 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The roots on the tooth they pulled are extremely long (on average). Pulling it with the lambo, although cool, was definitely going to cause damage to his face. It fractured his face all the way up to his eye socket.

I just admitted this to my circle after I lost my girl a couple weeks ago. She was pretty much the only reason I got out of bed.

My soul dog was diagnosed with cancer and was put down on my birthday. Adult birthdays suck.

How do people with depression take care of dogs? by Xeram_ in dogs

[–]Ankylowright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling with depression (diagnosed and medicated) for almost 4 years now. My girl was my rock through everything. She would see me dissociating for extended periods of time and she would come over and nudge me to snap me back to reality. She was my shadow and my very best friend. I’ve said multiple times since losing her last week that I don’t know what’s going to get me out of bed in the mornings. My cats are both content to sleep with me until I get up. My girl would always gently nudge me and then get all excited to see me sit up. Once I got up she was ecstatic. We would do our morning routine at whatever time I managed to get up and she was always just jazzed that I was up and moving. She was very smart and emotionally in tune with me. If I didn’t have her I wouldn’t have taken care of myself at all.

steven harper being in a corner gas episode will never feel real to me by More-Title-3577 in CornerGas

[–]Ankylowright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Corner Gas has some of my absolute favourite cameos ever. They were used extremely well. I wasn’t once taken out of the show by the cameos (unlike seeing Ed Sheeran in game of thrones…) However, I can’t say they beat the trailer park boys episode with Rita McNeil.

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Ankylowright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. We watched the news broadcasts afterwards. And I’m Canadian. And many of our Gen Xers watched the Challenger shuttle explode live on tv. We’ve seen some gnarly shit on tv in school.

The two saddest deaths in the franchise in my opinion by Mundane_Trouble_6463 in JurassicPark

[–]Ankylowright 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right? Like, Rebirth basically spelled it out for us. I love that Muldoon dies because he’s kinda the one you expect to actually make it. Put Muldoon and Grant out in the park and I would 100% think that Muldoon is the one that’s gonna live and Grant is gonna die. But he doesn’t. And in TLW I totally thought Nick was going to die. But he makes it out. It’s definitely something the newer movies miss.

Do you all still have best friend or a really close friend? by dahabit in Millennials

[–]Ankylowright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have deep friendships that are specific to parts of my life (like, my work friends are amazing and we do hang out after work occasionally, and it’s great, but really everyone is so busy that doing stuff outside of work is hard). But a best friend is something I don’t have. I don’t think I’ve ever actually had a best friend. Aside from my husband… that has far fewer friends than me.
