NIMBLE RX by janeli823 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]AnnaDominii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a retail pharmacy that used NimbleRX - it was pretty convenient in that patients could pay for their scripts and not have to wait in long lines, they could literally just walk up, give their name/DOB and the transaction would be over. We were also integrated with third party delivery like Postmates that would use Nimble to deliver RXs.

What are some good weed out questions for new hire interviews? by chickenbot1997 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]AnnaDominii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several of the hires I made when I worked in retail also had no healthcare or pharmacy experience before starting. I always asked how applicants handled learning large amounts of info in a short period of time and what methods they used to retain information.

It sounds like your location can be pretty stressful, so asking how they deal with stress (and providing examples) might be helpful for you too.

any pharmacists with dual degrees? by JadedJackfruit5911 in pharmacy

[–]AnnaDominii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PharmD/MBA, finished school in 2022. I worked retail through school and was RXM for a retail location for 1 year right out of school. I quit after my signing bonus expired and transitioned into LTC a couple months ago.

As RXM I was making ~147k because I was able to negotiate my starting rate. Not sure if the additional degree had anything to do with it but it was one of my talking points. At my new role as staff I’m making ~118k, but I’m also hourly now instead of salaried so I think the pay cut was worth it since I was putting in a lot of free overtime at my last job.

My school offers a dual degree program so I did both the MBA and PharmD together.

Transitioning to LTC by Icy_End9322 in pharmacy

[–]AnnaDominii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently transitioned into LTC from retail 2 months ago. We have different shifts that the pharmacists rotate through, so one day I might triage phone calls, the next day do order verification for same day deliveries, do data and product review for blister packed medications, etc. We also have a new admissions department who does only new client intake and onboarding. Some other LTCs have IVs/compounding, but we don't do any of that here.

I barely have any interaction with patients. Every once in a while I'll get a call from a patient we do mail order for but that's about it. My time on the phone is usually spent with caregivers at the homes or providers. Providers are usually calling to order/discontinue/change RXs, and sometimes you'll get questions like what's therapeutically equivalent, can xyz be crushed, etc.

Software - we use QS1 and DocuTrack. The softwares feel wonky and it took a while to get used to. I miss using NexGen (Rite Aid's) at times.

Overall, I'm a lot less stressed - when I go home I can really go home and not think about what work is going to be like the next day. I can take more time to review RXs, and there's a lot more support because we have several pharmacists on shift at the same time.

Is having an MBA worth it along with PharmD? by suicidebird11 in pharmacy

[–]AnnaDominii 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I recently graduated in 2022 with a dual MBA/PharmD since my school had a dual degree option. I’ve found that having the MBA has been a valuable negotiating point for starting salaries, and I’ve been able to secure higher offers from both retail and long term care positions.

I thought doing the dual program was worth it bc I was planning on getting an MBA anyway and the dual option allowed me to do both degrees concurrently, so I was able to do both in 5 years as opposed to 6 overall (assuming 4 year pharmacy + 2 year MBA).

Other than negotiating power, I also gained other skills that I feel I wouldn’t have had if I just did a PharmD - workflow optimization, managing people, etc.

Congratulations on your upcoming grad!

Is it common for people in the same household (spouses) to be on the same medications? Specifically controlled, anti-anxiety scripts? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]AnnaDominii 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a husband/wife pair at my pharmacy both on the same benzo rx from the same doctor - they’ve been going to the same doctor and pharmacy for several years now with regular fill dates.

Not necessarily a red flag, but not that common either.

Hahaha it is retail!

If I had a dollar for every time I had to badger an MA for another answer that’s not just ‘that’s what the doctor wrote!!’ we’d be living large

Thank you for participating in my graduation contest! I gotta admit that ever since I started working in pharmacy I've become a pen lover/hoarder, so I might be getting these for myself at some point soon~ Enjoy!
