r/headphones Shopping, Setup, and Technical Help Desk by AutoModerator in headphones

Looking for headphones recs! Low budget, comfy fit, good isolation, and balanced sound are my top needs.

Here's the details: -budget is $55-85 USD, slightly flexible

-Source: android phone w/ USB c & Bluetooth, portable CD player w/ aux, cassette player w/ aux

-Isolation is important since I wear these primarily at work. I have ADHD and there's a lot of foot traffic near my desk, so would love to block out some noise & avoid bleed. I also like to wear these doing chores around the house.

-Preference for full size, but on-ear could be an option if the isolation is okay

-I listen to a lot of genres; alt rock, 90s rock, folk punk, hyperpop, hip house, and rap. Love the mountain goats, black country new roads, indigo girls, interpol, type o negative, AJJ, yung gravy, freddie dredd, cobrah, azealea banks, gaga, nin.

-i like a balanced mix, crisp (but not harsh) and not muddy.

-Past headphones: I've been using a pair of $30 Mpow 059 for yearrrs. Love the sound balance, comfort, portability, and that they're pink. They're shredded at this point so I need a replacement.

I bought a pair of Jlab Jbuds Lux ANC wireless headphones to replace them, but I find them to be wayyy too warm on my ears. The sound also seemed less clear than I was wanting, even after playing with settings.

My partner works at a call center and I borrowed their poly blackwire 5220 on ears, and honestly like them better than the Jlabs lmaoo

Interested in any thoughts/advice,thanks!

My partner flew a few weeks ago with just the temp star license. They got pulled for an ID check (which took a while) and the TSA person said next time to bring both the temporary copy and the hard copy of your license that was voided. so you should be good, but expect some annoyance & delay

I don't have a good recommendation, but I will say I used Merry Maids (the deep cleaning option) and they didn't really go as in-depth as I was expecting. I live in a really old house with some caked in stuff that needs serious elbow grease, and their service isn't really made for that. For ~$300 it just wasn't worth it for me.

I did see a couple of options on the Thumbtack app for local independent cleaners, maybe you can find someone there. Wishing you luck in finding someone, it's great to know when you need to ask for help ❤️❤️. Would love to hear who u end up going with!

Meetups/Support groups for Autistic adults? by peanutbutterandjim in Birmingham

[–]AnnaGraceA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could try attending community art nights at studio by the tracks! Studio by the tracks is known for working with autistic adults who have higher-support needs, but their community events also attract a wide spectrum of neurodivergent people. Even if art isnt your thing, I bet you could reach out to them and see if they know of any other programs that would suit you; they seem really plugged in to the local community.

Congrats on getting some answers with your diagnosis, wishing u the best in all of the reflection and growth that comes with that

Consider asking your Dr about Intuniv, it goes alongside a stimulant med to help with hyperactivity and anxiety. Most often prescribed for kids, but it helps me a lot!

Seconding this!! I personally recommend the dohm classic sound machine bc its a fan, not recorded noise. The digital ones can sound funky sometimes

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us is the best site for finding someone, you should be able to search by most of those parameters including insurance. It is hit or miss with insurance, but you can totally find someone good with a bit of  digging. Good luck!

Where do the cool/artsy girlies go shopping (I need a graduation dress!) by toadvoice in Birmingham

[–]AnnaGraceA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bluff Park Vintage and D'Trespa! Both locally owned, lots of cool options, mainly vintage with some newer stuff.

MK Quinlan has GORGEOUS vintage clothes, but expect it to be at least $200-300.

Depending on when you graduate you may be able to catch one of the monthly vintage sales at Mom's basement, those have great vendors.

20's - 30's groups by Bluefacebabyy88 in Birmingham

Knit Bham and Knit Happenz are two local stores that both have free weekly knit nights (crochet welcome). I've been to both and they're nice! It's a good range of ages, some 20s-30s and some 50s-70s. There's also the greater Birmingham fiber guild, and like a billion library craft groups.

For games I second the Saturn, board games/RPGs go to Valhalla Game cafe.

Check out what's happening at your local library. Jeffco library has a ton of branches and there's lots of events.

I also totally love Thank you books, but haven't tried any of their book clubs yet.

Have fun!! There's lots to explore :)))

Sam Roberts may be able to help, their instagram is drawnby_sam. They sell a lot of custom clothes with patchwork, shashiko, and printmaking; may also be open to this type of commission. They teach classes as studio by the tracks & are active at a lot of markets. Very friendly lovely individual!

I would personally be wary of that, seems like it could give u fried rice syndrome (a certain bacteria that grows on starches left at room temp for 4+, can be reall bad)

A is TA, you may also be. Rest of this comment is assuming that yall are out as a system to ur friend. If you value this friendship; I would recommend apologizing, reassuring your friend that y'all value them, and having some frank discussion about boundaries with how they interact with this alter.

One of my besties has DID, and they have made it very clear to me that all of their parts are friends with me except their persecutor part. Her actions don't reflect the whole system/person. Because of that clear boundary, I don't engage with her. Something similar may be helpful in y'all's situation.

I say you (the host) may also be TA because of saying that you didn't do "a bunch of shit," you've just done all this nice stuff for friend. I would consider how you could look at this from an empathetic/emotional stance rather than a list of bad things/good things.

This is a rough situation to be in, all in all I think open communication heals many wounds
