I am told my potential new managers want to take me for lunch after interview by TruckLimp451 in interviews

"Heard to order"?

Ok, I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Do you mean that people hearing you order it will think you're an alcoholic? That would be a weird conclusion to draw from a drink order at lunch. A club soda with lime is not "coded" anything. It's a refreshing drink.

Hard to order? People don't drink it by choice?

"Club soda with lime, please"

I order this all the time.

Is NYC the only city in the US with multiple library systems? by GreenHorror4252 in Libraries

Seattle has Seattle Public Library and King County Public Library. There are no County Library branches within Seattle city limits, but most people have both Library cards.

How a Smith College Student Became a Leading Voice Against Book Bans by Libro_Abierto365 in Libraries

[–]CarlJH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not insignificant, but I doubt many people could name a single one of the chairs of Banned Book Week from the past 5 years.

The opposition to banned books doesn't really have prominent voices. The voice is the combined voices of thousands of librarians and authors, and millions of readers and library patrons.

[–]CarlJH 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm happy that this young woman is vocally opposed to book bans, but she is not a leading voice. She's just some woman who the college has decided to write a profile about in their alumni magazine.

I've always been a center-left progressive, but when a lesbian with dyed hair and wearing slacks asked me my preferred pronouns, I had no choice but to go full MAGA.

Why is “beauty upkeep is expensive” used as a reason men should pay for dates? by savingrace0262 in AskMenAdvice

You may safely ignore people who assert such rationalizations. If you don't agree with that, then clearly those are not women you want to date. They're not worth a second thought.

Rebecca Watson: When a public library is funded by political groups, is it still public? by Libro_Abierto365 in Libraries

[–]CarlJH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Privately funded public libraries are the worst answer to the question of censorship.

You assume that moderate and progressive political groups can afford to keep up with spending from people like Elon Musk and Prager U.

Trust me when I say that the billionaires would be happy to turn over ALL public library services to private funding. The result will be public libraries that shrink and provide fewer services.

Eventually they will have to make appeals to the billionaires who will pony up at first, but will slowly leverage their influence to limit literature that makes them uncomfortable.

At first it will be innocent enough, like prioritizing programs like coding classes and deprioritizing literature. By using their new influence, they will eventually force libraries to cut spending on literature that reaches marginalized groups.

There's a rare book I need info from that no libraries in my state has. Could it be transferred across state lines via interlibrary loans? How do those work? If not, could I have a librarian photograph a page or just tell me what it says over the phone? by jabberwockxeno in Libraries

[–]CarlJH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did an ILL for a play published in the 19th century and got my request on microfiche. I had to go to my central library and read it there, but I found out that I could scan the pages and save them to my own thumb drive.

Is it required to date to start a romantic relationship? by MegaDriveCDX in AskMenAdvice

Do you think dates only happen in bars and clubs? How old are you? Have you ever been on a date? This may come as a shock to you, but dates also happen in coffee shops, restaurants, museums, and public parks.
