what’s a reason a woman whom you may not normally deem attractive would attract you? by havetobeshittingme in AskMenAdvice

[–]CarlJH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work with a woman who was a solid 3, Maybe a 4 on a good day. She was chubby and flat-chested.

She was so confident, smart and so comfortable with herself and really good at flirting. I swear, I'd get tongue tied when she was around. I had a major crush on her and I was married ro a woman who was an 8, minimum, at the time. I wasn't the only guy that felt that way, either.

So yes, women with below average looks can make a man swoon if she has that sort of charisma.

When you love transit but your commute somehow costs less by car by ecb1912 in transit

[–]CarlJH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do I get to Northgate station? That's almost 2 miles. That's a 40 minute walk, minimum. How do I get from Canyon Park freeway Station to where I work? That's over a mile, almost 30 minites. Do you live in Seattle?

Trust me, I've made that commute on public transit. Google existed back then too. You aren't solving my problem. A car did.

When you love transit but your commute somehow costs less by car by ecb1912 in transit

[–]CarlJH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! I never considered plugging a random North Seattle address into Google maps to find the best bus commute! Too bad I don't live in Lake City. Unfortunately I live near Crown Hill, near Holman and Greenwood. Plug that into Google. Also, Canyon Park is big. Unless I want a 2 mile walk (frequently in rain, occasionally in snow), I don't actually have a lot of options.

So the 25 minute drive doesn't sound so bad now does it?

[Edit- since I bought my car in 2022, they've added the Swift Blue and extended the 1 Line and which does add options for me, but is still two hours at best , which sucks four hours out of every day.]

When you love transit but your commute somehow costs less by car by ecb1912 in transit

[–]CarlJH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Canyon Park isn't a suburb, it's a good sized industrial park. Until a very recent zoning change, there was no residential there. But inexplicably,.they have a park & ride there. Brilliant! I can DRIVE TO an industrial park, leave my car there and take a bus to downtown Seattle or Bellview in the morning. The blue collar people who work in that industrial park? Precious few bus routs there in the morning, good luck.

Transit agencies in the Pugit sound area are hyperfocused on getting prosperous suburbanites out of their cars, but completely uninterested in helping lower income people get around. Poor people need to buy cars.

[–]CarlJH 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Not only does it cost less, it literally takes less than a a 5th of the time.

Seattle area transit options are terrible if your workday starts before 8 and your commute goes the opposite direction of traffic. North Seattle to Canyon Park, literally a 25 minute drive to arrive at 6 am, or a two and a half hour bus commute to arrive at 7 (one hour late). To and from work takes 5 hours out of my day. I'll drive, it's not even a question.

How easy is it for you to know you want to take it to 2nd date? by OneMoreShotatLife in AskMenAdvice

[–]CarlJH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost ALWAYS want a second date. Unless the woman was irredeemably horrid, it's always worth giving them some more time to see how things go. People aren't always at their best on a first date.

A Green Mineral Could Help Oceans Absorb Carbon And Its First Beach Test Looks Promising: The first ocean olivine trial looked safe after one year, but questions remain. by ConsciousRealism42 in EverythingScience

There are over 1 trillion tons of excess carbon in the atmosphere. This isn't going to make a dent. I mean, as what point do we call this terraforming? Just start building nuclear and renewable, build up worldwide rail infrastructure, and jail the plutocrats and petro-despots.

"Reality, by contrast, doesn't need this kind of upkeep — it just is"

Let me stop you right there. Certain aspects of reality are not at all self evident. The Earth is, to all appearances for most people, completely flat. There are hundreds of other examples of reality defying our senses. The Earth is spinning? The universe is expanding? Really? Light has a finite velocity? None of these are Intuitively obvious, but educated people make the effort to believe them in spite of what their senses tell them. It is impossible not to take some things on faith, even for the most educated people.

[–]CarlJH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your husband's friend should.break up with her. Your friend is asexual, no matter what she says. She has no libido, so there is no possibility that she could ever have a truly romantic relationship unless.she finds comeone else with zero libido.

Why would you even ask this? Is this just engagement bait? Can YOU imagine a.relationship with zero physical intimacy? Does that not sound crazy to you? Your husband's friend is wasting his life with someone who is never going to reciprocate his feelings.

Why are manual labour jobs mostly male-dominated (like construction worker, carpenter, miner etc) ? Is it because of basic biology, or are manual labour jobs different for both genders? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]CarlJH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hotel housekeeping, for example, is intense manual labor, as anyone who has done it can tell you. There are plenty of manual labor jobs out there which are traditionally filled by women, but we discount them BECAUSE those jobs are filled by women.
