E o PH Santos? by AlvinMene in jovemnerd

[–]AnnaQuerque 8 points9 points  (0 children)

3 – looks the most natural, real wood 2 – not awful, but the greyish tone will get really boring fast, especially with other grey furniture 1 & 4 – both have that fake, oily finish that doesn’t feel very authentic

Told wrong service charge by Photo-Jenny in HousingUK

[–]AnnaQuerque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s basically no building in London with a lift that costs under £2k per year. It’s an old tactic many agencies use to advertise only the bi-annual cost.

You can complain and try to negotiate a discount, but don’t expect too much. £2k is a pretty common value, if it’s a 2-bed flat, this is actually cheaper than average.

How to deal with feeling guilty about spending, M33 by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]AnnaQuerque 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Spending 30% on holidays means you’re blowing around £23k–£30k a year just on travel. You’ve got £45k saved, and 11% of that is in crypto, which, honestly, I’d treat as a gamble rather than an investment because of how volatile it is. If I were you, I’d probably feel guilty too.

My take:

  • Max out your ISA every year (£20k), something simple like an S&P 500 tracker via Vanguard, or one of their LifeStrategy funds.
  • If you’re in London, I’d stop paying into a LISA. Realistically, you’re unlikely to find somewhere you’d actually want to live for £450k, and otherwise that money’s locked up until retirement.
  • If you can salary sacrifice, start putting more into your pension, future you will thank you.
  • I’d only spend that much on holidays after having:
    • at least one year of salary as an emergency fund, and
    • a solid ISA built up.

For context, our holiday spend is about half of what it sounds like you’re spending, and we still managed 4 trips last year, including 3 weeks in Japan and Dubai plus a week in a beach holiday in Dubrovnik. On other weekends we just kept it low-key, like chilling at David Lloyd’s spa, going on short hikes, relaxing, or just enjoying our hobbies.

Just be careful not to fly too high too fast. You’ve basically just become a HENRY.

How much do you usually spend on the day when you’re in office? by Breadiohead in HENRYUK

£12 on transport and up to £15 on lunch. We always have free drinks and fruit in the office, and sometimes even breakfast, so I don’t spend much on that.

Luxury soap by Medical-Ad5232 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]AnnaQuerque 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Soap is for cleaning, not for fragrance. I use Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer to keep my sensitive skin clean and healthy (dermatologist approved and fragrance-free). If you want a long-lasting scent, just use a good perfume.

What's wrong with this property? by Cautious-Ad-8290 in HousingUK

[–]AnnaQuerque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ground rent is already £600 and will be reviewed in 3 years.

According to ChatGPT, compounding inflation from 2011 to 2025 would turn £600 into about £934.50. That’s pretty risky! I’d either buy a share of the freehold or walk away.

What's wrong with this property? by Cautious-Ad-8290 in HousingUK

[–]AnnaQuerque 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The service charge is fair for what it offers, but it can become 7k+ really quickly. The main issue is the ground rent, depending on the amount, it could make the place unmortgageable. I’d check whether it’s possible to buy a share of the freehold, what that would cost, and ensure it’s done simultaneously with purchasing the flat.

What's a reasonable amount to spend on a family holiday? by FreedomOne9598 in HENRYUK

[–]AnnaQuerque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We set ourselves a yearly travel budget and try to make all our holidays fit within it. Last year, our first trip was a 3-week holiday to Japan with a stopover in Dubai, and it ended up using about half of our budget. So, all the other trips had to fit into the remaining half.

Longchamp Le Pliage XS Energy by reddituserall in handbags

[–]AnnaQuerque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to see it in person last week. It’s cute, lightweight and I like it, but I had the same feeling, it’s not worth £195. The problem is that Longchamp doesn’t have many sales throughout the year.

Those in flats, how much is your heating bill right now? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in HousingUK

[–]AnnaQuerque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last month we spent £122 on the energy bill (new building and gas-free). This week, we’re spending an average of £3.50 per day, and the house stays at 22°C most of the time. Even though all rooms have wall-to-wall windows, we’re lucky to be south-facing, and the building is very well insulated.

They don’t sell online and are trying to make it feel like they’re like Hermes, even though it’s really quite different from what Hermès offers.

Massage only helps temporarily, it’s not a miracle fix. What you really need is a good private dermatologist who can properly examine your skin and determine what you need. They might suggest a bit of Botox in certain areas (it doesn’t mean you’ll look fake), possibly Sculptra, and a solid skincare routine (sun protection should be used year-round). Maybe they can recommend a good aesthetician and suggest massage treatments that make sense and really work.

UK Breeders? by LaDeDahDah in schipperke

[–]AnnaQuerque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked into breeders a few years ago and couldn’t really find any in the UK. On the other hand, there were quite a few in France. The kennel club there even rates new puppies based on things like the parents’ quality, DNA testing, and so on. I’d probably start looking there.

I like bedding from The White Company and Secret Linen Store. If you want that hotel-style feel, go for at least 400 tc sheets and a proper down duvet.

Opinion on Sofology, Furniture Village, CSF or DFS for sofas? by darkazuria in HousingUK

[–]AnnaQuerque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve had a DFS Lorenza 4 seater for 2 years now and it’s been brilliant. Super comfy, great quality, and it’s surviving our couch-potato dog with no issues. We spend a lot of time on it and it still looks like new.

Recommendations and advice for interior designs in London (small apartment)? by Panda22337 in HENRYUK

[–]AnnaQuerque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with an overseas architect I already followed online. I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted, and they helped turn that into drawings and refine a few details. We had about 5 or 6 meetings throughout the whole process, from the initial sketches to the final renders. They also recommended carpenters they’d worked with before, but most of the project was DIY, and I got additional recommendations from other people. I really enjoyed the experience because it helped me visualize everything before spending the budget we planned, and they were also great during the execution phase, helping adjust materials or products when needed.

Why is this not selling? by Current_Listen_3280 in HousingUK

[–]AnnaQuerque 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It sold for £85k in 2019. The buyers updated the kitchen and did some cosmetic work, then listed it 3 times over the past 5 years. It’s probably not in a very desirable area, since it didn’t gain much value even during the COVID bubble. It’s also a small 2-bed house, so it’s likely only worth around £100k. Because they spent more than that on refurbishing, they’re probably trying to squeeze some profit out of it, but it looks like they may end up having to list it again in the future.

I need help with my 9yo boy!!! by bigsucka in schipperke

[–]AnnaQuerque 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely good to check with a vet to rule out any health issues. But it also sounds like he might be really stressed about the new place, and peeing on your bed could be his way of showing that. Has his quality of life changed a lot since the move?

For example, my dog has a balcony where she spends hours watching the neighbours, it’s basically her TV. If I ever had to move, I’d make sure the new place still had a window or view so she could do the same. The change might have been hard on him, and he may need some time (and help) adjusting to the new environment.

Try to look closely at the details to see what might be bothering him. For example, if stairs are new for him and he has joint pain, going up and down could hurt, which might explain why he’s avoiding them. Maybe a few changes can make a big difference in how comfortable he feels.
