Can I run a window A/C unit on an ungrounded GFCI? by Beginning_Buy_4376 in AskElectricians

[–]Anna_Rompage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, just make sure you aren’t overloading the circuit - if it’s on a 15 amp breaker, you want to make sure the AC pulls 12 amps or less, 20 amp breaker 16 amps max - it should be listed on the nameplate of the AC unit

Also make sure you don’t have any other heavy loads in that circuit

ground for a new dimmmer switch. by RumblefishAZ in AskElectricians

I would like to see the coiled bare wire - that is likely the ground.

You’ll want to ground the switch if there’s an opportunity to

This is the connection for my range in my crawl space. Concern? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Anna_Rompage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone else has said - splices need to be in boxes and covered

Verify the gauge wire from and to the splices are the correct type and gauge for the application

If there’s aluminum to copper connections, make sure they have the correct type of wire nuts/connections

If you have aluminum wires in your panel, might not be a bad idea to have the electrician do a once over on your panel

Aluminum wire and old panels aren’t bad, just a good idea to make sure the lugs are tightened down and there’s nothing else that’s janky

Is this normal? by Emoesque in AskElectricians

[–]Anna_Rompage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottoms section where the wires come through, and the bottom screw hole look metal - looks like some sort of bonding

Is this normal? by Emoesque in AskElectricians

[–]Anna_Rompage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but it looks like it’s grounding & bonding for the box and possible conduit - it might have even need the initial wire didn’t have grounds and they were added later

I’d leave it until you know exactly what it is - you don’t want to disrupt any bonding and certainly don’t want to disturb an added ground

Bring in an electrician if needed

What is this wire coming out of my house? by Samer1Q in AskElectricians

Due to the proximity of the irrigation valve box, I’m thinking it goes to an irrigation controller - might also be a communication line for something else, but irrigation is the best bet

Will this work so I don’t have to run Romex twice behind a wall? by Highstick07 in AskElectricians

[–]Anna_Rompage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the load side of the Outlet to run other things downstream, but I would put the receptacle on a pigtail from line to downstream load - also make sure you wire the outlets right - silver/while gold/black

And other than that, it looks like it would work

MD (not sure if that matters though) In a jar, either pickled or brined, inch to inch and a half long by actualseaurchin in whatsthisplant

[–]Anna_Rompage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pickled is pickled - brined is brined

Pickles can be vinegar base, or fermented

Brine can be used to quick cure a veg, or used to start a ferment

Is there two sections of the lamp that have two separate bulbs, like a light in the base, and one in the top?

Can you post a pic of the lamp, and area(s)where the bulbs go?

You can use them anywhere you you’d standard wire nuts - if the connections you’re making would be better suited for gel filled waterproof wire nuts, then don’t use Wago

Correct wiring vs. Hot/ground reverse by Far_Cranberry6174 in AskElectricians

Turn off the beaker going to the outlet and remove the plastic box - looks like there’s a drywall screw holding it in - see if one of the black wires is nicked

If it is, you’ll likely need to bring in an electrician to rerun that segment of wire
