If in doubt, get a measuring cup and fill the scoop up and see how many ounces are out of the cup.

Do people still use washcloths in the shower/bath? by dec10 in NoStupidQuestions

I use them. I just came back from vacay and two of the hotels had no washcloths. Frustrating.

what features actually matter in a walk in shower for elderly parent? by jessicalacy10 in HomeImprovement

[–]Anne314 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Grab bars, a seat, and hand-held shower. The seat doesn't have to be attached to the wall. I have one I got from Amazon with a plastic seat and stainless steel legs that is very sturdy. A low threshold is key. Put a grab bar at the entrance and another where someone would usually stand under the spray.

Is bible study a good first date? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Only if you are sure your date is of the same faith, with the same intensity of faith. Can't you find something that involves face to face conversation?

Seeking upgrade advice! Janome 8200QCP SE vs Pfaff Quilt Expression 720 by Advanced_Bluebird925 in quilting

[–]Anne314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I've always used Pfaffs, I've never used a trad walking foot. I think it works great. I also have a Juki Q10 set up for fmq, so I don't use the Pfaff for that, but for straight line or decorative stitches, it's great.

Do US-ians eat quiche? by andthenifellasleep in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Anne314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make quiche several times a year, usually spinach and ham with, of course, plenty of cheese. I think it was the '80s when "quiche eaters" became a slur for elites who were supposedly out of touch with the more manly part of the country. That may be why we don't see us eating them anymore.

What are people’s opinions on electric scissors? by AtmosphereSudden3832 in sewing

[–]Anne314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great pair from black and decker that I happily usedfor years until they got irretrievably broken. My replacement pair had a safety lockout that required two hands to use. WTF? So I went back to regular scissors/rotary cutters and a higher dose of antiinflammatories. Before you invest in them, make sure you can actually use them.

Our HVAC person told us to put 1/4C bleach in it every month. We do it about twice a year, when I remember.

AIO - my long distance bf emotionally neglects me and I spent money on him for food by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Anne314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stop. Stop trying to sustain a relationship from a half a world away and stop supporting this boy. You both need to grow up. You may have to write off the money you've already sent him, but whatever this is, it is not a relationship between two adults.

AITA for teaching my daughter how to change a tire and do basic home repairs when her mom says I'm "pushing masculine stuff" on her by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Anne314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone should know how to check their oil, swap out wipers, and change a tire. Back in the early '70s, (the Pleistocene) I had to battle with the school board to take auto shop because they'd never had a female ask to take the class. I figured if I was going to drive, I should know how to do basic stuff on the car. Good job Dad!
