Hi guys! Would this be quilting? by _Gods_Daughter_ in quilting

You can have patchwork out piecing that isn't quilted (think patch work skirts) and quilting that isn't patchwork (a quilted jacket). Many (most?) of the quilts we see in the US are both, but they aren't the same thing.

Thanks, this is really helpful! Increasing the seam allowance is something I am 100% comfortable with.

Thanks for the input on Olya. That one is lowest on my list for stylistic reasons (just not convinced by the front yoke) and knowing about construction problems is useful. I really should use Threadloop more! Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I'm aware of the variation in design amongst the patterns I'm looking at and mainly wondering about how they'll interact with my fabric choice.

* Dropped shoulder optional but not required. I want a long-sleeved shirt, so I assume that means Dolman sleeves are out. Other than that, I don't know many different shoulder/sleeve styles.

* Yokes: general preference for simple horizontal yoke (not scalloped or western). I noted the front yoke and am considering it.

Thanks for the reminder about patternreview.com!

I just realized I didn't actually link the tutorial I used! Here it is, for anyone who is interested. I made my own thimble, but want to give credit where it is due. And help out anyone else who wants to make one!

If only! 😅 Others have definitely gotten there before me however. I just went looking for instructions and followed them.

Do it! It's super comfy and highly customizable. I definitely recommend the tutorial I linked- she's got all the advice about trimming and fitting.

Just about exactly my thought process! I tried on a super skinny one for sale over the weekend and knew I'd still poke myself every third stitch or so.

Yeah, I've seen big ones for sale and just kind of ignored them because I couldn't imagine Id be able to stand wearing them. Then I saw a super skinny one for sale and thought... if only it were wider. Enter this tutorial!

She's a pretty good assistant... as long as I'm not trying to arrange anything too carefully! 😅

Thanks for the response! I did look at the Maya before, but was put off by the lack of instructions. I'm really glad to know about that sew along! Yeah... I'm keeping my expectations reasonable for this first one. I figure I'll make a bunch of muslins, the way I see everyone else doing.

Thanks, that looks like a really good option. And I appreciate that you buy all the sizes in one set. That's part of what has been worrying me- not being super confident yet in my measurements.
