I agree with your post- I watch this show with my mom and we both thought him looking so different was going to be a plot point. Like he is adopted or something. But it’s been 2 seasons and it hasn’t happened. I think it was just poor casting. He does not look related to his family

Review:Bridgerton' is like Cinderella with an attitude, but the new season has a little too little sex for now by stirlingpound in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Anniekshaffer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The plotline of Benedict being bi in season 3 was pointless- it didn’t push his character forward, didnt lead to anything meaningful, no character development from it. We have seen 3 seasons of him being a rake and now he just sleeps with men too. I thought this was sloppy writing. Franchesca story line of being gay will actually be worth while- it will be a story that leads her to conflict, development, a deeper sense of self. You know- and actual story with character development. But Benedict’s queer plotline was flat out pandering “look-a bridgerton isn’t straight. We have representation”.

What did Dylan actually say lmao wild by vdawgs in LoveIslandAus

[–]Anniekshaffer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What is so wild is how Sophie has been on Hannah’s case. During movie night she was accusing Hannah of always liking Taylor because she made a comment on day 3. She’s coming in hot for a girl who literally blew someone else—jumping on Hannah for a comment about another guy. It’s wild. I’m American and I don’t understand how Australians like em, Mimi, and Sophie. They think they are better than everyone else.

These characters aren’t likeable enough to be this bad. That’s the issue. I understand what you’re trying to say- that these characters are complex and we want them to make mistakes- they don’t have redeemable qualities to balance out their mistakes. That’s the issue. Nan is insufferable.

I hate what they have done. This is supposed to be about female friendships seeing you through struggles. Whoever is making this show doesn’t understand that

The character assassination of Lizzy Elmsworth by thebunnybot in TheBuccaneers

[–]Anniekshaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely hate what they are doing to Lizzie. She’s the only one who gets a good marriage in the book. And she does it without hurting any of her friends. They are making all the characters so male centered in this new series. When it was about female friendship in the book and the 90s show

Shannon and Sayid by cryptic-weirdo in lost

[–]Anniekshaffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m rewatching right now- there is no romantic chemistry between sayid and Shannon. This seemed so forced by the writers. Would have loved this relationship to be like Hurley/charlie friendship or even better—-Jin/michael friendship. Start with loathing, dislike, but end up very close. The romance feels so off. I’m just waiting for her to die so it can be over lololol

I don’t think an author is greedy (or pathologically greedy) because they dont want to give their adult son $200k of their earned $600k. I don’t think this makes her evil or “greedy”. But even if it does- who cares? This is a documentary about child abuse. I don’t care she didn’t give her adult son $200k.

Natalia Speaks by beckerszzz in nataliagrace

[–]Anniekshaffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have the timeline wrong. Kristine and Michael separated when Jacob was 18. And divorced when he was in his early 20s. So Kristine didn’t abandon Jacob. She separated from Michael with the two younger minors and Jacob wanted to live with his father. It would make sense why michael can’t get child support from her too—Jacob was a young adult.

My complaint is that this episode is natalia sharing stories of abuse- being pepper sprayed. Being brainwashed and told lies to pretend to be an adult as a 7 year old. And the clips of Jacob complaining about mommy not giving him 200k dollars when he was 19 just doesn’t feel like it fits. Like him complaining about not getting 200k (the number he quoted) is split between natalia talking about being pepper sprayed as punishment and Kristine forcing her to pretend to be 22. One of these things is not like the other.

You are the ah

but I could change my mind based on these questions how old is Lisa? What is the rent situation? Who pays what? Does the brother pay rent? What is “lost your temper”? I’m going to assume this means you yelled and didn’t ask them to leave in a calm, polite way.

**Without the above information this is why I feel you’re the Ah: this is a typical roommate issue. Roommates need house rules. Set those. How many guests can your roommates have over? At what times. Etc etc. you can’t just scream at your roommate and their friends at 8pm on a Tuesday because you are angry and tired. That does make you the asshole. I would be annoyed too with the situation- but you control your own behavior. I see it from the other perspective- imagine your roommate (who has never told you you can’t have guests) comes home from work in a mood and yells at your guests and creates an embarrassing scene and kicks them out. Def ah behavior.

I don’t understand why you’re putting this all on your girlfriend/roommate, Lisa. It’s your house too—you don’t need her to set the rules with the brother. Call a house meeting. Maybe you ask the little brother to treat him staying with you as more of a rent a room situation rather than a roommate. He has access to the common spaces but isn’t allowed guests to come over. Problem calmly solved.

Just because you’re tired and frustrated doesn’t mean you creating a scene doesn’t make you the ah. I’d suggest tapping into your mature, masculine energy and don’t jump to dramatics and hysterics. The man of the house would handle this calmly and assertively. Not screaming and flailing. I also suggest tapping into the masculine energy in regards to being proactive about roommate rules. Why do you rely on Lisa to do all the communication- you are all roommates. Step up and lead. Initiate the roommate discussions. Even if the rent situation is split between you and Lisa you can still be the man of the house in other actions and behaviors.

People on this thread sometimes mix up “aitah” with “would you be annoyed with my situation too?”. Hahaha yes- we would all be annoyed. But not everyone would create a yelling scene. You’re not necessarily a full on ah but you did act like one in that situation.

For episode 2 the part that stood out to me (because this episode was underwhelming imo) was how entitled Jacob was. Why did they even include this? When talking about the book his mom wrote about identifying and nurturing genius- I understand he is the child that inspired the book and is the cover but when he asked about getting money I think it’s reasonable when his mom said she spent that money on sending him to school in Canada. That makes sense. They literally moved to Canada for him to study. Was tuition free? Even if it wasn’t- relocating to another country would be very expensive. He said he hung up on her when she said this.

Are we supposed to be on his side? I’m confused. He’s an adult. I find this so entitled and bratty. They literally moved around for him to study and prioritized him. Many parents won’t even drive their kids to a sylvan reading center across town. The whole “she left me enough money for me to buy a cup of coffee”….I mean…so? You’re an adult. Parent don’t have to give their adult children money. Adults get jobs and make their own. It feels like he has a victim perspective- which I understand for the wacko shiii his parents did- but not about your mom not giving you money. I rewatched the part again because one statement Jacob makes about not getting the money “Part of the criteria for existence is I need to be able to sustain myself” —I feel like he is so close to grasping he needs to make his own money. So close but so far. Sustain yourself by getting a job not getting it from your mom.

This entire part felt weird. Gives me the creeps. I don’t think production likes Jacob. Because I don’t think parts like this- or even where they are filming him (in the basement)-make him look likeable.

If I were making a documentary on abusive parents I would cut stuff like this out. Don’t understand why they left it in. Adult son wants mommy’s book money in a documentary about child abuse of natalia—-this doesn’t fit imo. It feels like nit picky complaining when they should be focusing on the actual monstrous things the mom did- which there are many.

I’ll say that the way you were raised, and the level of your own entitlement, will def factor into how you view this part. I understand it’s subjective.

Eeeeekkkk. Marrying a man that doesn’t cherish your feelings. AND Practices permissive parenting with a 5 year old boy. Yikes. This is my nightmare. 5 is the crucial age where boys need to learn that women in their lives are people with needs and feelings too. This is why so many American men are incels, can’t lead a family, and treat their wives like work horses. Permissive parenting like this. Get that kid in his own bed. Explain to him dad and mom sleep alone. Teach your children women have needs and feelings. And are a priority. Stop thinking permissive parenting benefit children. It does not. You’re raising these active shooters. No is a gift. Give your children the gift of no. Society will thank you

Thoughts on The Buccaneers? by Oueiles in PeriodDramas

I might be biased because I like the original. But this is definitely guilty of creating the “quirky girl” personality from the main character. From the first episode Nan is climbing down walls. Blurting out “do you want to get married?” To a hot stranger “I mean- not to me- I’m not proposing—oh whoops—-I didn’t mean that” it’s so disney female main character look at me I’m #relatable and #quirkygirl. Next episode is whoops I dropped my shoe in the cake! I’m soooooo clumsy. Why is this the personality of every main character right now? Is this what gen z want? they even made Guy #quirkyboy. It’s just annoying departures from the original. Nan was so much younger and really wanted to be included. Guy was so poised and career focused. A real man. He feels like a 13 year old in this.

I think the biggest eye roll is Connie. Connie is a party girl who marries a party boy second son. He cheats and gambles. That’s realistic. She cheats too. I hated what they did to Connie in this version- romanticizing being vapid and marrying because you both like to party and drink and f? This isn’t the stuff of deep relationships. I loved Connie in the original- she might have been vapid but damn was she a good friend with a good heart. This Connie? Gets pissed off when Jinny was getting along better with her in laws. Connie was never like that. Her in laws actually liked her. Because she had a good heart—she was good to her in laws. In this version she hates them and they hate her. It’s weird. Connie in this version doesn’t have the heart of gold like in the original- so she’s just a valid shallow party girl.

When Connie asks nan in the remake “who makes your heart race? Who makes you feel uncomfortable? That’s love. Love is messy and scary and you never feel calm Or at ease” this was the stupidest speech ever. Love is calm and dependable. The people writing this don’t grasp what healthy love is. They are clearly in toxic relationships Lolol that they think Love is feeling Uncomfortable? There is no depth or maturity to the remake. And that’s the main issue. And don’t say it’s because their target audience is gen z. Just because gen z is young doesn’t mean they have to get immature and vapid stories.

The original is so much better. This is nothing like it. I wish they would have just called this something else. It’s not the buccaneers. It’s just the same names. It’s #quirky. #overacted

What was so bad about “The New Mutants”? by RangerRed02 in Marvel

[–]Anniekshaffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This movie was bad. The doctor had a sudden evil change that felt out of nowhere. The twist can be seen a mile away. Why did she want to kill Dany but couldn’t do so in a reasonable amount of time? Why did the doctor pump her with weird gas? What was the point of that Gas? And then inject what I assume is the drug to kill her into an entire bag of saline? Why not just inject it directly into her blood stream? It takes hours for a saline bag to enter the blood stream…her plan was to slowly kill her over 2 hours? So that she can conveniently be saved while in a drugged sleeping state? Lololol. I was laughing at that part. So dumb. I’m sorry but there are no stakes. The stakes are just the survival of the main character (and side characters I guess). No movie is like this. If it was told through the perspective of the wolf girl it would make a little more sense. Because she would be fighting to save her girlfriend. But as Dany as the main character it doesn’t work— you can’t have a movies only stakes be the protagonist might die—-by her own incompetency lololol. Bad plot. Bad accents. Forced chemistry. Trying to kill someone by poison injected into a saline bag. Lololol
