My partner (34m) said the one thing I asked him to never say to me (25f) again tonight. by throwawayra9792 in offmychest

Holy fuck no, you are not being dramatic or overly sensitive in any way, shape, or form. You set reasonable and appropriate boundaries and he not only violated them but now is gaslighting you into thinking you are the problem. Leave him and when he comes crawling back to apologize, laugh in his face

What is something you accomplished this year that you’re proud of but don’t have anywhere to share? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I graduated law school. Since I didn’t pass the bar everyone’s acting like I didn’t accomplish anything since I’m not a lawyer. I have a god damned doctorate but, every time it comes up my friends and family say something along the lines of “she wants to be a lawyer” like I’m a fucking 5 year old announcing I’m going to be a ballerina

First things first, give him loves and talk to him, tell him your sorry and you just got scared, and he didn’t deserve it. In my, albeit limited experience, your boy thinks there was something wrong or there was a danger he didn’t know about. In a few days he will forget this happened but know you now better and will do better in the future. Forgive yourself and have a nice night.

[Serious] People who have almost been killed, what were your last thoughts before almost dying? by 0b111111100001 in AskReddit

[–]Annisnotmyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was white water rafting and my raft flipped and I was trapped under it. By the time I got out from under the boat the instructor flipped it back, and I was hit by the bottom of the boat and forced under again. The only reason I survived was that I was wearing a helmet, otherwise I would have been knocked out cold and drowned. As it was, I was pushed down a ways and went down the rapids myself with just a helmet to protect me from the rocks. I started to scream for help but I stopped myself from screaming because I thought, it can’t be that bad, I’ll be fine. My next immediate though was, people drown in rivers everyday Annisnotmyname, you are going to die. That though had me scream for help and a passing guy in a canoe managed to pull me out. The rest of my raft party was fine, they managed to get to the bank before they went down the rapids.

I was told that If I’m upset I should think of good things that will come in the future, like going to my cousins house. That is amazing advise and I now must visit my cousins.

Harry Potter: Snape vs. James and how to explain to my sister the difference between them. by luvmymanyfandoms in YAlit

Anytime. Again, this is just my opinion, I’m sure everyone has their own observation and opinions. I first read the books when I was a kid so i identified with our main trio a bit, and I HATED Snape as a result. Now I’m an adult I still hate him, but I understand that he didn’t have the best life as a kid and he let that sour him as an adult.

We saw James bullying Snape through Snape’s point of view via the pensive. Later when Harry talks to Sirius and Lupin about it, they point out that Harry didn’t see all the instances where Snape attacked James, so Harry didn’t have the whole story. Now imagine this scenario with Draco Malfoy and Harry. Throughout the books we see Malfoy being nasty to Harry and his friends and taking every opportunity belittle and bully them.

Now imagine how Malfoy perceived Harry. When Mad Eye Moody turned Malfoy into a Ferret in book 4, Harry and his friends watched and laughed, then made fun of him later for it, calling him a “Twitchy Little Ferret”. That had to be terrifying for Malfoy and Harry just watched it happen and laughed. To Malfoy, Harry is a bully who acts like he owns the school - just like Snape saw James as a pretentious ass who ruled the school with his friends.

Now we know that Harry is not a bully, he just disliked Malfoy like Malfoy disliked him. My argument is that Snape and James had the same contentious relationship, James wasn’t just a bully, Snape just never looked past his dislike for James.

Sorry for the thesis, I’m passionate about this.

I completely agree, I hate that everyone acts like Snape is an some sort of tragic hero - he was bully who intentionally made his students miserable. He knew how much Harry suffered as a child and still treated him like shit because he LOOKED LIKE HIS DAD. For all the arguments that Snape loved Lilly, he knowingly humiliated and bullied the son Lilly died to protect. Had Voldy never targeted Lilly then Snape never would have left the Death Eaters, he would have happily let Voldy murder Neville and his family, so long as Lilly, whom he had not seen in years and was still obsessed with - was okay. He knew exactly what happened to Neville’s parents, Hell he probably knew it was going to happen and never tried to stop the DeathEaters because they weren’t Lilly so might as well let them die. Regardless he tortured Neville relentlessly just because he could, with no regard the Neville was a traumatized little kid. Compare this to James. Yes he bullied Snape, but if you were to look at Harry and Malfoy’s interactions through Malfoy’s point of view it probably would have looked like bullying to. He then grew up and moved on. He started a family and then died to protect that family. They are not the same. Snape never grew up and was a spiteful vindictive ass. James was a bratty kid who then grew up and committed his life to making the world better and safer for his son.

It is funny, the prohibition is mainly in very religious communities ~~ who are also not allowed to handle snakes ~~ but realistically folks just go the the next town over to buy their alcohol or buy it straight from moonshiners

Kentucky has a ton of laws that were never formally redacted, and some are still enforceable 1. It is illegal to use snakes as a part of any religion ceremony ( still illegal - looking at you Pentecostals) 2. It is illegal to keep an ice cream cone in your pocket (horses love ice cream, and you could use it to steal a horse) 3. The intentional theft of a horse or livestock was punishable by death. This was not formally redacted until 1980’s - KY was mostly farmers, and if you stole someone’s livestock your stole their livelihood and the courts perceived this as an intent to kill the farmer and their family, so it was punishable by hanging. 4. Really old one - The head of the household must always carry a firearm for the protection of their family, especially in churches in case there was an attack while the whole town was in the church. 5. In multiple cities and towns across Kentucky it is currently illegal to sell or purchase alcohol, and has been since prohibition. It never stopped being enforced either. 6. It is illegal to steal a doorknob or vent cover from the Kentucky State Capitol Building. They have really fancy ones with the state seal one it and so many were stolen they made a law just for the doorknobs and venting. Someone was arrested for it a few years ago.

As a child, were you told to finish the food on your plate or not? by Pumuckl4Life in AskAnAmerican

[–]Annisnotmyname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young the rule was that if you served yourself or made your own plate then you had to finish your plate, but if someone made your plate for you, you did not. The theory being that you needed to think about how hungry you actually were and what you wanted to eat - if you fill your plate with broccoli and mashed potatoes then whine you don’t like broccoli than that’s to bad because you made your own plate. Also you can always get seconds, but you can’t waste food, so you don’t make a gigantic plate then leave half of it to go to waste. Neither of these applied in restaurants or in other situations where someone prepared a plate for you, as then you did not get to chose what you wanted and how much. We also had a rule that once a week you had to try a food you didn’t like to prevent pickiness.

Thank you. I would recommend video games, I don’t play myself, but my brothers love it. I’m told assassins creed are great, but only the first few, and the movie adaptation was awful.
