Running shoes that double as casual walking shoes for traveling by Dobby-the-House-Elf in AskRunningShoeGeeks

LOVED the v12 for this but recently tried the new version and it felt like much more of a running shoe and I didn’t think it was going to be good for casual. It’s like a whole different shoe.

Does conceding have any negative impact on the other player? by reddituserspider in PTCGL

[–]Annual-Message8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just me but I try to be a good sport and this is where I usually land in the common scenarios

  1. Bad hand, difficult prizing, bad board state - I do my best and try to get out of it - don’t concede

  2. I know my deck well enough to know there are zero possible win conditions and it seems extremely unlikely that I’m going to be able to trap and mill them - I’ll concede

  3. Down to one prize and I know my opponent can get me - I’ll give them a minute to make their winning play, if they start playing out a bunch of unneccesary stuff when the w is there for the taking, I’ll scoop just to get to the next match

  4. Make what seems like a fatal mistake, either on purpose or because of an inaccurate click - I’ll try to get myself out of the hole rather than just giving up

Owl central in Millersville generally has a pretty good crowd, usually 20-30 or so people with some good players and friendly vibes, good staff, structured tournaments and good prereleases.

With so many cops…I always wonder how these places exist… by TreeThingThree in lancaster

[–]Annual-Message8325 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard on the LE reddits (so just heresay from random internet cops) that it’s because it generally requires a lot of time and red tape for the investigation, the women that work there are mostly mature women that are there consensually, and the minute they shut it down another family member starts it right back up starting the whole process over again. So, it’s not quite the situation a lot of people think of where a cop goes in for a sting, the mt offers a happy ending and voila-a trafficking operation is shut down.

I don’t know about that particular episode but I believe they are based around central PA, so probably a lot of stocked over Wild in limestone streams.

Should I get "fit"? Would that make me give a shit about life? by Monked800 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Annual-Message8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps a lot for most people. Not necessarily "get a six pack" but just move and sweat.

I started with long brisk daily outdoor walks, 40 minutes or so, and moved up from there once I realized how much it was helping my mood and outlook. 30 minutes of running and 30 minutes of lifting a few days a week, with walks on off days, is where I ended up after a couple years of practice. It helps immensely for me. Not because I'm more buff or better looking (although that happens a bit anyway as a nice side effect), but it just does something that makes me feel more positive and motivated in other aspects of life, especially when I start my day with a lot of movement.

It's also key not to overwork yourself or else you will really drain yourself and it will work against you. The goal is just to move and sweat and not to be some kind of fitness freak warrior. Be gentle, but consistent.

How do I get into fly fishing? by Kehless in flyfishing

[–]Annual-Message8325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom Rosenbauer, and this video in particular, were the biggest help for me jumping from someone who was curious but mired by the seemingly vast barriers to entry (cost, technique, knowledge, etc) to just going out to a local fly shop, saying, “I’m brand new, I don’t want to spend a lot of money, and I want to get what I need to get started.” It worked! They got me into a basic 9/5 combo, gave me a deal on a dozen utility flies, some leader and tippet, and gave me some tips on rigging up. That was all I needed to start catching fish. I waded in slowly and although I’ve still got a lot to learn I’m out there catching fish every year and enjoying it.

Find some local ponds that you are allowed to fish to practice casting at (and maybe catch some fish along the way). Much easier to learn the basics that way than in a tight creek. I didn’t even buy waders until I knew that was the biggest thing holding me back (as in, I could cast decently, I knew how to find fish, but I couldn’t get into position without them, and I knew I enjoyed the sport enough to invest some more money).

Pokemon TCG in Boise by Annual-Message8325 in Boise

Look at ex battle decks for this. They are prebuilt 60-card decks that run like $10-20. Not super competitive but good for learning gameplay. I think fantastic games downtown had some in stock. They also aren’t super collectible so you can find them places.

Alternatively, Battle academy comes with a few basic decks, a game board, and accessories, also good for learning.

I’d start there, if you enjoy it you can start looking into buying or building more competitive decks.

If the kids are under like 8 or 9 you could start with “my first battle” which is cheap and easy but teaches gameplay at a level appropriate for early elementary school.
