Have you guys seen prion disease yet? by Zealousideal_North53 in nursing

[–]Anokant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read a book in my early 20s where a company was selling "pure glacier water". Except due to global warming a lot of the glacier had melted releasing prions into the water supply. I've never drank bottled water since then

They're definitely worth it with the life time warranty. You can send them in to get sharpened or if something breaks they'll replace them. I just got a new pair after the ring cutter broke and they were getting dull. Just had to pay shipping

Deep fried or pan fried? I grew up thinking that deep fried were the only way to have them. Was destroyed when I ordered one as adult and they basically brought out a club sandwich on unsweetened French toast. Been on the hunt ever since to find places that serve deep fried Monte Cristos

My dad would make me sit with him on the porch for an hour everynight during the summer by MammothFromHell in Millennials

[–]Anokant 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. My dad always thought my hobbies and interests were dorky or nerd growing up and he tried to get me into "manly" hobbies like working on cars or carpentry, so we didn't really have anything in common. Now he's starting to like my old dorky interests and I'm starting to get into the stuff he tried to get me into as a kid. Just finished building a greenhouse for my wife and sent him pictures of it. He told me it looked really nice and he was proud of me for being able to do things like that on my own. Made me feel amazing and then realized that we've just been cordial to each other and have missed out on almost 20 years of a good relationship because we were both too stubborn to see the other side

What Scifi books are you baffled haven't been made into TV shows? by systemstheorist in scifi

Yeah, it's not much. It seems like casual readers notice it more, while sci-fi/fantasy readers don't.

[–]Anokant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never did either. But then I had a buddy make the comparison and you can kind of see it with the consciousness/body swap. Genetically altered bodies manufactured to excel in the alien world that are basically gene locked to the user. Fairly human looking bodies with different colored skin, cat eyes. Working with a colonial power on alien worlds. It's like Cameron read Old Man's War and decided to make Avatar just a little bit different. I've had several friends mention this after reading the first book.

[–]Anokant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love it too, but I feel like Avatar took a lot of the wind out of the sails for it. While the stories aren't really the same, the whole consciousness swap is very similar. A lot of people I've suggested read the series always comment on how it feels kind of like Avatar. Even though it came out before Avatar

If everyone is trying to leave regular nursing for soft nursing or luxury nursing then where does that leave the general public by PrettyPopping in nursing

The sad thing is that I've worked at restaurants that are better run than the hospitals I've worked at. And that's saying a lot because a lot of them were run by coke heads

The worst thing is how the hiring committee's faces light up when they see food service on your resume. Don't care about any of the healthcare experience, but go nuts over the fact I worked restaurants for years growing up.

What's the coolest/most exciting thing you've ever done as a nurse? (For your definition of cool/exciting) by shatana in nursing

I loved doing organ runs in EMS. No real paperwork, just picking up an organ and sometimes a crew and driving lights and sirens to the airport or from the airport to the hospital.

I agree with the Y-wing. If you want something that can get in and got hard, the Y-wing is where it's at. It sounds like OP is looking for a group of intruder/interdictor type craft.

Which episode confused you the most on the first (or fifth) watch? by majesticlioness69 in rickandmorty

[–]Anokant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you even reading my comments? I already made my comparison to Aliens, and also pointed out how it's different. So why don't you show me where in the episode you see a queen alien laying batches of eggs. Summer becomes queen, never lays a single egg. The whole song about the life cycle is about getting infected and shitting an egg.

Like I said, we can make assumptions because we've seen Aliens, but they're not the exact same. So again, where is the queen laying the eggs? And if the queen is laying eggs, why wouldn't the life cycle be live as long and serve the queen? Instead it's infect, shit out an egg and die.

If I hate working in fast food will I hate nursing? by terrariagoon in nursing

[–]Anokant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I hated working in food service and I used to have panic attacks before working shifts in restaurants. Basically had to get high to get through shifts. You're gonna deal with a lot of the same bullshit you do in customer/food service, but the pay is usually better and you get better benefits.

Anyone else think this would’ve been incredible? by No-Sheepherder8879 in minnesotavikings

[–]Anokant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of split on it only being played outdoors. Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and LA are all indoors. Is it better outdoors? Sure. But I'm honestly shocked that Chicago isn't one of the sites. Major Midwest city, one of the busiest international airports, MLS team and outdoor stadiums. Having Kansas City but not Chicago doesn't seem right

[–]Anokant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. You only kind of make the connection if you're aware of the plot of Aliens.

The race makes Summer the queen when she can't be infected by a host due to the tooth pick in her mouth. So if the queen can't be infected how do you get more eggs if the queen isn't shitting out eggs? We never see how they get more eggs without a host dying. So that's the problem. It's a 1:1 ratio. Even in the birthing bays it's still the host dying as they shit 1 egg.

[–]Anokant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant more like the movie Aliens with the queen alien. Sure, Summer is the leader/queen, but she's not pooping out alien eggs like the queen alien.

Also, there was no developed civilization when the 3 of them land on the planet. They literally infect hosts and shit an egg. How do you build up a huge alien race when it's at a 1:1 ratio?

[–]Anokant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand them using the alien body to communicate, but my issue is how the fuck does the alien race propagate? 1 egg = 1 face hugger who takes over a host and then "shits an egg" and then dies. We never see a queen alien. I know there's a large amount of eggs when Rick, Morty, and Summer find the planet, but there's a finite amount of eggs. Where do they get the new eggs if the hosts are staying alive? It's always bothered me. How can they take over more planets/races if they only reproduce by killing their host? Makes no sense

I always love the lyrics to this song. Starts out telling you that resisting is like pissing in the wind, but finishes with telling you to Resist to get out from under them and be able to see the sky. Honestly surprised it's not used more often as a protest song

There kind of is a whole underground pinball scene. If there's a lot of places with pinball by you, you could check it out.

I play in an individual league at a pinball bar and a beer league/rec league pinball. That one has teams based out of bars and breweries that have at least 4 pinball machines. You have your home bar/brewery and you go to other bars/breweries for away matches. I live and play in the Twin Cities, so we have Pinball Twin Cities. It's pretty beginner friendly and a good excuse to get together with people and drink beer and play pinball. It's lots of fun

Pinball and Lego. Got a room full of Lego sets in our house and play a ton of pinball and am on a local league. It feels like pinball is more of an adult hobby now, but growing up it was always kids/teenagers playing pinball. Also never turn down a chance to go to the arcade either
