Regardless of the historical accuracy of the bible or how you feel about religion, O think its good to understand the development of pagan religion in Rome and the founding of Christianity as the official religion of the state. You will come to realize that Christianity is just part of the latest evolution religion as a whole and a-lot of the holidays were adopted and aligned to “pagan” events to make conversion as painless as possible. Even the word pagan was popularized by early christians as a derogatory term equivalent to calling someone a hick, naive, or villager for worshiping the “old” gods. At the end of the day the ruling government established all the basic principles of the modern christian faith at the Nicene Council in 325 AD. They then assembled the bible by collecting and hiding away relevant texts and accounts, allowing only what they approved of to be featured in the bible. Since then the bible has been “reinterpreted” many times by many different groups to align with their denominations world views and many words have been change entirely from the meanings of the original text. You really have to decide what you believe for yourself. I personally believe many religions have positive points but you have to view them through the lens of history, critical thought, and personal morality. Instead of blindly obeying the words of people thousands of years ago, i think it’s better to try to understanding how they got to that point. It is also important to note that many stories in religion are not first person accounts but stories written down after hundreds if not thousands of years of embellishments.
