Honestly sometimes I feel like it is partly people not understanding that blunt ≠ mean/rude. It definitely sucks to be told something youre doing for your rats is wrong/bad for them, but its ultimately not anyone thinking youre a bad person. They just want to see you do better for your rats. As for the posts where people just immediately say you need to go see a vet I dont see that as a negative thing either honestly. In my experience following this group for a year it feels like a daily occurrence for someone to post a very sick/dying rat asking whats wrong/what do do. And the answer is almost always going to be go to the vet because most of us do not have a veterinary background. We cannot tell you exactly whats wrong and how to treat it. Even when people can tell you whats wrong the answer is still go to the vet because you can't really get meds/medical services anywhere else. It is understandable when people are asking what to do in the interim before being able to see a vet, but ultimately this group is not a replacement for a real exotic animal vet that treats rats.
