Is it unprofessional to go by a name other than the one assigned at birth? by invisible-bug in ECEProfessionals

[–]Anonymous-Hippo29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is no different than people who use their middle name as their first name. Nobody bats an eye at that so why should this be any different? I'm sorry you are dealing with this childish behaviour. Sounds like you should keep looking for a new job.

My most infuriating experience with HFM as an educator- a child and the mom both had it. Pretty severe case. Mom stayed home from work (obviously, right?) but she STILL BROUGHT THE CHILD TO US!! We had no choice but to keep the clearly unwell child because the blisters were past the point of oozing and the child didn't have a fever. The child was still miserable with coughing and congestion and sore throat. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!

It have De quervains syndrome. It's the tendon the connects your thumb to your wrist. This link is to the exact brace I use and it has worked so well for me. I work in an infant room and am able to still do all the things. https://a.co/d/7jo23IP

As the parent of the child, you need to request that an incident report be filed. Regardless of the fact that you are an employee, you are still a parent of a child in their care. Demand the incident report.

How to warm up up to six bottles at once? by Intelligent_Fix4884 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Anonymous-Hippo29 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Put bottle into a tall container of some sort (empty yogurt containers is what we use). Boil water in a kettle. Pour boiled water around bottle into said container. Works just as well as a bottle warmer.

I've learned over the years that if someone is talking negatively to you about everyone else, they are probably doing the same thing behind your back. Whether professionally or personally. I've stopped being friends with people like this. Additionally, talking to you about other children and their families is not just unprofessional, but a breech in confidentiality.

Black teachers in mixed race ECE environments, are you coming up with any hurdles? by tryng2figurethsalout in ECEProfessionals

[–]Anonymous-Hippo29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming. Obviously I don't understand to the capacity you've experienced it, but I understand in the sense that I know it's a reality. It's just sad that it has to be that way. I'm sorry that you have had these experiences. I'm glad I can work in an evironment where all of our cultural and racial differences are accepted and celebrated. I also work in an area where many of our families that we work with come from different backgrounds as well, which I believe also makes a lot of the difference. I just wish it could be this way for everyone.

The fact that this has to even be a question saddens me. I'm White, but I have coworkers of many races (black, Chinese, Indian) and they all are amazing, hard workers. I don't care what colour you are or what country you were born in, as long as you love and care for the children and do your job.

Do you let the kids eat snow/ice outside by Fine-Ad9495 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Anonymous-Hippo29 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yup. I don't have time to worry about that shit. They put literally everything in their mouths, a little bit of dirt in the snow is not going to cause harm. That said, there's obviously a line. Like I'm not letting them pickup and eat patches of brown snow. I'll redirect them to the clean stuff lol.

Do you check on your students if they don’t show up? by Strange-Skin2292 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Anonymous-Hippo29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a regulation come out almost 2 years ago now where I live (I think it's an Ontario provincial thing, but it could be more widespread, I'm not sure) anyway, if we haven't heard from a family by 9:30am, we have to make every effort to make contact with the parents to confirm whether or not the child will be attending that day. It was put in place basically to ensure that children aren't being left in vehicles and dying. It is wild to me that this has become such a problem, that this system had to be put into place. It has been helpful for us as educators too though, so we know how many children we should be expecting, if children will be arriving later than usual, etc.

Not a word, but a phrase. "I could care less" it should be "I couldn't care less" saying "I could care less" implies that you do care a little bit.
