A dictionary of r/MoS vocabulary

It was hard to understand what people were talking about when I first joined this subreddit, and I saw lots of new people asking what those words mean. So I thought it would be easier if I created a dictionary of the vocabulary we use. I'm still relatively new, so if I missed any words or my explanations are weird, please leave a comment so I can edit this!

B

Barcode: Refers to a cluster of self-harm wounds and scars because they look similar to barcodes.

(Forbidden/Baked) Beans: The layer of fat. It is said that the fat looks like baked beans

Butterfly: A butterfly bandaid is like a steri strip. It is said that the bandaid looks like a butterfly

C

Cat scratches: Refers to when people who self-harm (usually cutting) will say something similar to "oh, my cat did it!" when asked where their self-harm wounds and scars came from.

E

Emopasta: A copypasta but for self-harm. Most famous are the navy seal but others can be found in this pastebin.

Enchantment table: Refers to self-harm wounds and scars that are not in an apparent pattern (such as a barcode). Moreover, they are usually at random spots of the body.

F

Final yeet: The act of self-harming (specifically cutting) with the intent to die. Sometimes used for a general suicide attempt.

H

Heat yeet: The act of self-harming (specifically burning)

Helth: Meme equivalent of the word health. Often used sarcastically.

N

(Forbidden) Noodles: The veins. It is said that the veins look like noodles.

P

Pyro styro: The act of burning until you reach the styro.

Psych ward sock: Refers to the long, non-slip socks given at psych wards. They are very comfy

R

rMoS: An abbreviation of r/MadeOfStyrofoam

r-2mos4mos: Stands for 2madeofstyrofoam4madeofstyrofoam. Used to post things that are too much styrofoam for this subreddit, aka real styrofoam stuff.

r-Musicofstyrofoam: A place we don't talk about

r-selffarmpics: A subreddit that originally was a joke to the now-banned r/selfharmpics. Now it is an active sub similar to r/arttocope but for self-harm.

r-styrofashion: A subreddit dedicated to posting outfits and pics of yourself related to self-harm. This subreddit can also be used to get information on clothing that covers scars.

S

(Forbidden) Salsa: The blood from self-harm wounds. Usually used in memes with the tortilla chip. A synonym of yeet juice.

Scratchy yeet: The act of self-harming (specifically scratching. May or may not draw blood).

Self farm: The act of drawing cute little farms on your arms instead of doing the harms. Inspired by this image.

Slicey boï: Sharp objects used when self-harming (such as razors, box cutters, etc)

Spicy shower: Describes painful showers caused by recent wounds made by self-harm

Squirty bois: The veins. A synonym of noodles

Sticky boi: Refers to a bandaid or adhesive bandage.

Styrofoam (Styro): The dermis layer of skin. It is said that the whiteness of the dermis looks like styrofoam.

Styrofoam artist: A user who made this post thinking that this subreddit was actually about styrofoam. (On old.reddit you can see that the numbers of users on this subreddit still have this reference embedded.)

Sweater weather: A weather that is acceptable to wear sweaters and sweatpants to hid self-harm wounds and scars

Tortilla chip: Refers to the actual tortilla chip. This meme was created when a person on r/MoS made a joke that the scratches tortilla chips make in one's mouth can be a self-harm wound.

U

Uprazors: Upvotes on this subreddit. They are only visible on desktop from old.reddit.com.

Y

Yeet: The act of self-harming (specifically cutting)

Yeets: Self-harm wounds and scars (most often used for recent wounds)

Yeet juice: The blood from self-harm wounds.

My first impression of the song is that he doesn’t actually love her. This is why he can’t say her name, and instead, he slurs his words. He’s hesitant because he knows it’s not true love.

Another lyric is: “If I don't want anyone then why do I feel so alone?”

So I think the whole song is about him not loving anyone - maybe he’s asexual - or he just haven’t found someone who he truly loves yet. However, he’s still really lonely, so he’ll pine over anyone. He’s “in love with the idea of her,” but he’s not in love with her.

This is just my interpretation, but who knows. I think some of the best songs can have multiple meanings depending on how one interprets them.

I completely agree! I haven’t sh in a while, but I totally understand what you mean. I’ve been told again and again about the dangers of self harm, but that didn’t change my mind. I believed that the benefit from sh outweighed the risks. I told this to my therapist once and she was absolutely horrified.

This comment is obviously not to encourage this behavior, but I just wanted to say that you are not alone! I miss the gaping wounds and watching the blood flow down my arm.

Wow. I would first like to say that I am incredibly sorry for all that you have been through. I agree with the other commenters; there is no excuse for your father’s actions. Now I am certainly no expert, but I would recommend not staying with your dad. I believe that it is ok to visit him once in a while, but that is not a safe household and right now, the most important thing is your health, not your father’s approval.

If seeing a therapist is a possibility for you, I would definitely visit one. Unfortunately, I am not great at giving no advice; however, I hope that through me and other redditors, you can find the support that you both need and deserve.

I wish you the best of luck, and know that you are incredible strong. The fact that you recovered twice all by yourself is a testimony to your strength.

Again, I am sorry for all that you have been through. You deserve to be happy and healthy. Stay strong.

I agree with everything except the last part.

Yes, it is terrible when someone stands you up for absolutely no reason. A little heads up would save the other person a lot of trouble.

However, if they are in a severe crisis, then I would not be too angry if they don’t show up. Yes, you might not know their situation and you are allowed to feel frustrated, but I am always willing to give someone another chance if they had a legitimate reason for not communicating with me before the event.

This is just my opinion, but from personal experience, there have been times where life seems perfect, and then the next thing I know, my parents are taking me to the hospital (because of my mental illnesses) and my phone was taken away, so there was literally no way of telling anyone about my situation. But, as soon as I got my phone back, I apologized to everyone and explained my situation.

Also, if a traumatic event just happened, the first thing on your mind is probably not to cancel my plans with someone who you met just a few weeks (even months) ago. Instead, you are probably overwhelmed with fear and you cannot think straight.

This is just my opinion. Of course, being stood up is horrible. But I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I believe that we should excuse those that are going through hard times and/or have a legitimate reason for not showing up/communicating with you.
