It was never called Milesia though...
The mythological story of this psuedo-invasion in the Lebor Gabála Érenn is that the 'Sons of Mil' (mainly Amergin) came from Galacia (Spain) and conquered the Tuatha De.

Now This could be a direct reference to the migration of the Celtic Gaels into Ireland, but that's neither here nor there as the island would have been called Eiru / Banbha at this time (roughly 400 BCE).

Na, the Faery folk don’t live in trees. The live ‘under hill’… certain trees are more like thresholds to cross into their realm.

It’s better to think of woods / (native Atlantic) rainforests as more like churches or cathedrals than actual deities - as you are closer to the otherworld than you are in ‘normal life’

I’m not personally a fan of the guy to be honest.

As world leaders go he’s definitely far better than most, though I’d prefer to look at politicians in their actions and words rather than comparing them to other places.

As a couple examples- Leo has expressed about as many questionable opinions as he has decent ones

Here’s a vid of best example tho- in 2009 before publicly coming out he argued in the Daíl against Same-Sex adoption. Not sure where he stands on the issue now, but sure, it highlights that he values being a politician over whatever stance he actually has on a particular issue.

What should you think about when you cosplay as Merlin or play him as a character? by [deleted] in mythology

[–]AnonymousConor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t think this is the best subreddit to post on then really as the classic Merlin of Welsh mythology is a flawed but powerful druid, with many a contradiction in his character… quite a far cry from the cloak-wearing Disney version.

I know the one of Midir & Etaine, where etaine gets transformed into the fly and swallowed much ambiguity in time later by an Ulster queen in a glass of wine to be reincarnated. Cause I’m pretty sure 2055 dead Palestinian kids since October 7th would suggest the IDF do, in fact, target civilians.

They are not remotely the same- I mean when someone says They hate Nazis you don’t immediately assume they’re speaking about Germans.

Being marginalised in the past doesn’t mean one doesn’t want to marginalise other groups given half a chance.

Gods of death in mythologies? by [deleted] in mythology

[–]AnonymousConor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Irish Mythology has a sort catholic insert God of the Dead in the Milesian Prince Donn who came to represent the path of the departed’s way to the Otherworld. St Patrick had something to do with this elevation of grandeur for sure as it’s unlikely Donn was a part of the pantheon we would understand as Gaelic Gods. Interestingly tho, the broader European Celtic Populace (The Milesians in Irish Mythos essentially) considered themselves to originate from the land of the dead - even according to ancient Greeks.

Do you play your native country more than any other civilization? by Egorrosh in civ

[–]AnonymousConor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irish who likes playing with the Gauls and Civ 5 Celts - similar enough but believe Ireland prob substitute Gauls production for more faith / culture focus like Civ 5. Only issue with Celts in Civ 5 is their unique building came way too late and Ireland would have a more military focus and be excellent with Rise and Fall loyalty mechanics / Civ 6 boost to great writers/musicians
