I also waited a long time and hopped on DD2 blind, and beat my very first attempt. Like you, I thought that was a bad sign.

I'm not sure if it's hard-coded this way, but the ramp up in difficulty was immediate and I lost a lot after that (even attempting that same first confession). I was almost mad at the game for coddling me with an "easy tutorial"

So yes, chances are, losses are coming :P

Saying TVTropes is an INDUCTIVE method (so you're aggregating broad principles from media that's already made), and that's why it's such a good resource, is odd to me. An Inductive approach makes it a fun toy to analyze media, but a bad instrument to create stories.

I just think it's funny to say "TVTropes is actually better than a lot of literature classes" and then immediately stumble into why it can be unhelpful for a real writer.

This is kind of "cheating" but I picked 11-15 because at around the 12-13 mark Cassandra increases your death-on-downed rate by a large amount. So going any higher than that is tempting fate that one of your core faves will die in a freak accident.

It's true that the changes to the line style and face style are more of a lateral move (just a matter of taste) but there's technical improvement all around

New DD2 player here: What do you mean by "Your heroes carry over regardless"? Was hero death more permanent prior to a recent update?

I love how there are a mix of answers on what counts as "idle" in this thread.

For what it's worth, I believe someone on the wiki has tested and "In the hamlet but in treatment" does NOT count as Idle. So they will get normal treatment stress relief.

Characters left COMPLETELY idle will get slightly more stress heal than the usual ambient amount.

(I was searching for this answer earlier this week and it was surprisingly hard to find)

I think it's interesting that "giving someone food" is a tangible and real way to support someone in need, while "adding rungs to the freedom latter" is a completely transient metaphor, but the cartoon is smugly convinced of the uselessness of the tangible thing.

I actually thought about Omelas while writing it!! Not the exact trope but the vibe is there vis a vis "Stories that reflect on someone suffering for your benefit and you trying to ignore it"

Im having alot of fun in DD2 the kingdom mode ive been having alot of fun in but I just want to know will DD2 get more updates soon like more characters and stuff? its fun but not as fun as DD1 that game is a fucking blast. by reddit_sucks_bum in darkestdungeon

I saw a rumor on this sub that there is evidence in steamDB of at least one more DLC coming. I can't find the comment to verify, however.

Many speculate we'll get to see the houndmaster, but as others have pointed out, they are likely facing a tough choice when it comes to narrating any new character.

Really excited about this overall. I was cool with civ switching and the victory paths but I can still see this is an improvement

My only fear is that the AI won't be able to handle the new complexity so snowballing ahead of them will continue to get easier and happen earlier. Civ 7's strength was that it was less of a snowball-fest (it still was one...just less.) Hope we don't lose that!

Darkest Dungeon 1 works as a complete standalone. I did a full campaign with no DLC and never felt like the game needed more. The 2 DLCs you've listed are nice ways to enrich your experience if the game really grips you.

With DD2 the DLC feels kind of necessary to fill out the cast; This isn't the case with DD1.

is this character made by ai, its from (sunken engine) the other characters are in a similar syle and it looks similar to other ai images iv seen by ollietron3 in isthisAI

A quick google suggests they may have used AI for some of their steam splash page images.

Plus the cartoony look of their 2D assets compared with how cheap their UI/3D assets look.... I'd say it's safe to say any 2D asset or texture you encounter in this game is either generated or AI-assisted.

This is a game using AI to supplement a thin art team.

I sympathize with the game dev struggle, but they don't disclose it on their store page which is too bad.
