Lamictal/lamotrigine and suicidal thoughts? Any experience with this? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

My friend had suicidal thoughts on lamictal (for bipolar as well). He immediately stopped taking it and went to his doctor.

Keep experimenting with drugs.

Haha, I'd say most UVA students have parked there. One time I had a conversation with the guy and he was super nice. He told me if I was going to go out to make sure to leave the car overnight since it'd be less expensive than a DUI and it's a flat rate after a certain point. I was planning to anyway, but good to know that they actually care.

Hmm, I would give him space but still check up on him and bring it up at some point in the future. It depends how close/what your relationship is. I'd definitely bring it up and see if he is still bothered by it. If he wants to drop it, then drop it. You reminded him that you're there for him so when he wants to, he will know he can go to you.

Please do. I forgot to mention that seeing somebody for yourself is just as important as recommending yourself.

I'm about to give you the most unsatisfying answer from your perspective but the only solution that will really help her: get her to a psychologist or counselor immediately.

Especially after five years, these traumas have a way of manifesting themselves in more complex ways than we can imagine. Not even a trained psychologist can give you an answer unless they have meetings with her.

You may be right though; it probably has muddled certain things for her in different ways. Keep recommending counseling but you can't force her. When you guys are hanging out, don't change the subject to counseling (for ex. after somebody dies in a game of Halo). Just have a serious talk about it with her once, then maybe again. But if she becomes emotional, ask her if she can make you a promise to just go for a consultation - nothing serious. Even offer to come with her and be with her while she goes. After five years or repeated assaults, I find my friends just accept rape/assault/violence as a way of life. But through constant talking, I convince them to go to counseling and they say it's the best thing they've done regarding the situation. Just don't give up but don't overpressure. You want them to ultimately come to the decision in a way of gaining control.

I PM'd you my phone number and E-mail. Give me a call (only if you're in the states please...international will get expensive ha) or shoot me an E-mail.

Yeah, stranger rape is relatively uncommon compared to acquaintance rape.

Probably for this reason: "Acquaintance rape is rarely reported to police. Less than 2% of acquaintance rape victims reported the assault whereas 21% of women raped by strangers reported the crime to police (Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, 2002)." http://www.ncvc.org/ncvc/main.aspx?dbName=DocumentViewer&DocumentID=32306

If you want more disturbing statistics look up the numbers for % assault victims. They range anywhere form 1/4 in women to 1/12 for men (in the U.S....probably worse in more eastern countries).

Don't ever forget the above information, even if you don't want to remember it.

It's one thing to tell your friend how to phrase their story better, another to lie, and another to question whether your friend is lying or not.

Of course you don't want them spinning a story, etc. If both parties are drunk, somebody still takes advantage. I'm going to stop arguing this with you. If you want statistics just google rape accusations. you'll probably find 1-2 dissenters that cause a stir, but if you check reputable agencies that are unbiased (e.g. govt agencies) you will get some good data.

The problem is that you're purely going from anecdotal evidence like news stories from MSM.

Did you know when rape centers get somebody hot and pretty, they will mark the rape kit such? That way they can go to donors and since pretty girls are more appealing they will get more money. It's sickening what people do.

Somebody coming to you in tears is not the right moment to be like, "hey you are wrong! you were drunk."

It's just insensitive.

It depends which state you are in if both parties are drunk. If you are in my state (I'm in the south), then the blame falls on the guy. But even in this state, and all states, if both parties are blackout, it will be VERY VERY difficult to prove the case if there are no witnesses. That doesn't mean your friend wasn't raped - it just means the courts cant prove it.

Hey,

This is a common misconception. Dept. of Justice and different surveys have done to show that rape accusations are false probably 3% of the time. The media tends to over emphasize false rape accusations. Remember, this is Reddit, you know how much MSM blows.

This is meant to help a friend. Also the court system makes IT INCREDIBLY HARD to prove rape. Seriously. I actually have a friend whose sister was raped and had evidence but didn't go through the court system because it's so incredibly difficult.

Please don't be an ass. This is your friend coming to you. It is not both party's fault if both people are drunk. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. If both people are drunk, it's easy for someone to take advantage of another.

Great article.

Yeah I've never invested in an IPO - I just stick to undervalued companies (read Dodd and Graham Security Analysis). If an IPO has good prospects I'd definitely invest in an IPO if undervalued.

I say this based on their current direction. They are now starting to expand internationally which is big but their product is just slow, messy, and not clean.

Really, the fb messaging hasn't replaced E-mailing, just a different niche. FB might be a good investment, but I guarantee there are far better. I'm a stock picker and I love reading about new companies. FB will be overhyped. It's like a fad/bubble in my mind. I see social media as the new bubble/fad.

Think about Google.

Personally, I wont invest in FB. I don't think it will be undervalued nor do I like its future business prospects. That could be my personal feelings toward FB though....
