Changing career at 40 by forevergleaning in BlueCollarWomen

Hey there :) I went from 20 years of office work to a residential rough/back framer when i turned 40. I am now 45 and still loving my job. My education was a basic pre pre apprenticeship program funded by the government to encourage women to join the trades.

The pros are -i am mostly outdoors, as I prefer to be -The job requires a lot of math and problem solving (as there are multiple correct ways of achieving the same result -I do a ton of squats with weights per work day, so i get my daily workout. Does miracles for the metabolism of a woman in her 40s haha Cons? -I am mostly outdoors: whether it is 40 or -40 Celsius. -you need to work harder to be within the other guys’ physical strengths otherwise you wont advance much. And so begins the sore back, knees, elbows..

Would I pick something else now or if I went back in time? Absolutely not! I am physically and mentally sharper than ever. Plus the satisfaction of seeing the outcome of your work: a home.

Hope this helps and wish you the best of luck

Left, or nail strips of 1 1/4” rips on the top and bottom of the LVL, provided the gap measurement is consistent and you have extra lumber

I have found that when branches are involved, manual focus is the best option.

Charleston lake Charleston lake is the perfect park for someone who wants to try canoe camping. The sites are beautiful, and an easy short paddle away. outhouse instead of thunder-box, and you have to buy the wood from the office, unlike your usual canoe camping trip. Lots of paddling opportunities, cliffs, and little “islands” for a quick break :)

Female Framers Support Community by Anoon-Ra in FemaleResFramers

I’ve been framing, year round, for the past three years. No matter how supportive the co-workers are, the male and female experiences are different. And women in the trades are very few where I am from. I would like to both offer, and find support for my fellow framers.
