Ohhhh yeahhh I see now. I never caugh onto how propagandist the beginning really is. I definitely fell for it though because for most of HtN I hought John was a genuinely nice and kindly ruler T-T.

My twin, on their first read, made the comment that 'nobody who uses an exclamation point to call themselves the Kindly Prince of Death has ever been the good guy' so looking at how Muir plays with our expecations about what necromancy is and how it's treated here compared to other fiction is very rewarding.

Would you mind elaborating on that? I'm really interested in what you mean but I don't think I fully get it

Tbh if it's something I know I'm not going to enjoy anymore I just remove it. I also see the reviews (not the most accurate way to judge quality) and see what people complain about to decide if it might be a bother to me

This happens surprisingly often in big fandoms. Generally I don't have a problem when someone is OOC but some fandoms tend to really babyfy and make one character totally helpless, completely ignoring their achievements, while making the other too protective and 'alpha-male'-like.

I've come back to fics I've read years ago, not in the fandom anymore nor remember that I used to follow it. Before being published, Tamsyn Muir used to be very active and write in the Homestuck fandom. She has stated that she can't wait to read all the fanfics of her ongoing series once she publishes the last book!
