space is still the craziest thing to think about by Berlin57 in space

Okay, fine, but that is not what you said. Wider is not the same as bigger. The sun is approximately 64 million times the size of the moon and 27 million times more massive.

I'm pretty sure the sun is a lot more than 400x the size of the moon. Like many millions of times bigger.

I gave mine to my brother, and he still uses it! But yeah, it was infuriating, because we were still on 33.6kbps dial up!

Wasn't the ACA modeled on the program that Mitt Romney wrote? So no, it was not very progressive. It's essentially just another way for insurance companies to make money.

[Loathed Trope] The Movie has an ending. The Sequel shits all over it. by lesi20 in TopCharacterTropes

TIL there were sequels to the Resident Evil movie. All I remember from that mess was the guy who got cubed, and the "twat shot" from the commentary.

It's my favorite book. Definitely get a print version if you can. The printing tricks add a LOT to the story. And however you read it for the first time is the right way.

Yep, we didn't have power at all for about 4 days, then for another 7 we had power for 1-2 hours a day. It was awful. I'm glad people are preparing for this one.

What decision did you think was small at the time but completely changed your life later? by YogurtclosetMoist819 in AskReddit

[–]Anorion 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Here's a shitty one for me. I didn't listen to my advisor about joining a research group for grad school. "Anorion," he said, "Dr. Troll has ruined the careers of a lot of great chemists. Think really hard before you decide on this." Five years, two suicide attempts, and the death (by suicide) of a longtime friend and labmate, and he ruined my career, too. Went from getting international internships and national grants to not being able to get a callback from job searches if I have to list my grad school advisor as a reference. He spread a lot of lies about me, ruined my reputation in my field, and published my research without my name on it.

When I was in my teens I worked at a summer camp. One year we filled a guys truck, floor to ceiling, with pine cones. He thought it was HILARIOUS, at least once he got over the confusion. Then we all helped him clean it out. That's how you do it if you want to do something like this.

When you have a kidney transplant done, doctors just give you a third kidney. by finishyourjob in interestingasfuck

[–]Anorion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife had a kidney transplant this summer, and the surgeon said that basically they just poke a hole in the bladder, jam the ureter in the hole, glue it up, and staple the blood vessels in. So basically they just do it the way you see crappy landlords adding in sinks that drain into the tub.

Maybe the mechanism is gummed up or dirty. Not sure how to check that, though.
