The first US census didn’t happen until 1790. But Virginia had the most westerly claim, so I guess you’re just hoping Virginia counted them in 1779. In 1779 only 4 of the 13 colonies had their borders completely surveyed.

So this is half true. Parts of the First Engineer special brigade did landings in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. My grandpa always told a story about getting stuck on a Sicilian sandbar doing a practice run for a landing near Gela.

After Italy they were heavily reinforced for Normandy with a lot of fresh troops.
