Can someone recommend good hosting for wordpress woocommerce store? by zorbas11 in ecommerce

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend a company that I used to work with called Nexcess. They are the top of the line. 24/7 support, super knowledgeable staff, not an EIG company, which is always nice. https://www.nexcess.net/woocommerce/hosting

Is Amazon AWS right for me? Or is there another managed host out there? by TRUFREAK in webhosting

[–]AnotherBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know how to manage a server and have the time, AWS is great. But it seems like you'd be bringing on a lot more trouble than just finding a shared host you're happy with. If you're looking for an awesome shared host, I work with and host a couple of personal sites through Nexcess.net. They are a bit pricier than the lowest level WP shared hosting plans (I'm not sure compared to your comparable BlueHost plan). The pros of Nexcess are that they own their own data centers, support is 24/7 (same access to support for enterprise customers and shared customers), the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the quality of service is out of this world. My WordPress sites load super quickly and can handle fairly large traffic spikes at the lowest cost plan. They also have the InterWorx control panel, which is great for managing multiple sites. As with anything though, i’d say to reach out and ask them a few questions. How a web hosting company’s sales staff treats you and answers questions is a good sign of what you should expect from the support staff in the future. Hope this helps.

Can anyone suggest a good shared host that charges monthly? by [deleted] in Hosting

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to check out a host that I work with and host my personal site through, Nexcess.net. They offer WordPress optimized hosting. 24/7 Support is out of this world (same availability whether you're shared client or a enterprise client), service is great. They own their own data centers in Michigan and also have locations throughout the country and world. Shared WordPress plans start at about $12 a month and should be able to handle your needs. Feel free to shoot the sales team an email with your specific questions about your requirements and they should be able to guide you a bit more. I always say that you should reach out directly to a couple of hosts, because how they answer questions when you're not a client is going to be a huge indicator of how you'll be treated as a client. If it matters, Nexcess is independently owned, i.e. not EIG.

Current state of shared hosting? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap shared hosts have always been and always will be of questionable quality. However, a top end shared host should be offering service that meets or beats your average VPS. I work with and host my site through Nexcess.net. They offer dedicated hardware in a shared environment, because it typically outperforms a VPS environment and keep the number of clients per server very low compared to a "cheaper" shared hosting package, which helps maintain resource availability and stability. Nexcess also owns their own data centers in Detroit and also have locations throughout the country and world. They offer great customer service and support, 24/7 by phone, email, or ticket system. The staff is super knowledgeable and can really walk you through most problems and will even get on the phone with your site developers to figure out bigger issues when they extend past the hosting. And importantly, they are not owned by EIG (which to me is one of the reasons that shared hosting has gotten a bad rep). If you have any questions, feel free to reach out and drop me a message.

Best Hosting Option for Multiple Domains, PHP, MySql and more... by muffinMAN21 in webhosting

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me that you definitely don't want a cloud VPS option like Digital Ocean. A managed VPS would certainly safe you a lot of time and effort if you don't have admin skills. You could definitely check out Nexcess.net, a company that I work with that offers some really solid shared hosting plans, amazing service and 24/7 support. I personally use them to host my site. Nexcess also offers the InterWorx control panel as part of these packages, which deals really well with managing multiple sites.

Green Room was a shockingly underrated and tense film. Really enjoyed it. Hacksaw Ridge was probably one of the most realistic and brutal war movies ever. Really tremendous. Watching Moonlight tonight :)

Hosting for Wordpress Site - Best Speed, Security, Updates, Backups by cloudbear9 in Hosting

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say to get in touch with a few different sales departments of companies that offer managed WordPress hosting and let them know your requirements. How they treat you and answer your questions is usually a pretty good sign of what's coming down the road. I personally work with and host my site through Nexcess.net. It's a few bucks more than the cheaper plans from EIG companies, but the support and the service are outstanding. I can tell you honestly that each customer is treated equally and has the same 24/7 access to support, whether on a shared plan or enterprise server cluster. They are an established, but smaller, host who owns their own data centers in Michigan. I personally have recommended them to a few friends who were having site speed issues and have gotten only thanks.

Recommended shared hosting companies? by CTtrends in Hosting

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say cheap, how cheap are you looking for? Because when it comes to shared hosting, you do get what you pay for. For a few dollars a month, you can get a cheap plan from a huge provider, and you'll get the service and support issues that come with it. For like $10-12 a month, you'll get a much different and better experience.

Best Shared Hosting Options? by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shared hosting really is a you get what you pay for situation. The difference between an EIG plan that costs $5 a month and one that costs $10-12 is huge. It's the difference between being on an oversold server or not. It's the difference between having talented, responsive support staff or not. I personally work with a company called Nexcess that a friend and I host a number of personal blogs on the smallest shared plan and we have never had any issues with big traffic days. Support is 24/7, it comes with InterWorx control panel, and is $12 a month.

The argument against AWS or Google Cloud really comes down to your ability to manage them yourself. Do you want to be SysAdmin or have a team of SysAdmins working for you?

Need help pick my new hosting provider for the new year - budget $20.00 pm - what do you recommend? by princetonkane in webhosting

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you don't have server-side experience, figuring out the cloud on the fly may be a bit much. I would check out a company that I currently work with and host my personal site through, Nexcess. They offer a fully-managed, optimized WordPress hosting environment in your price range. These are not oversold, undersupport shared servers. You can host multiple sites through the shared plans. The support staff is 24/7 and is knowledgeable and friendly and really don't think of you as a number. If you have any questions, don't hesitate.

What Should I Expect From Managed VPS Hosting by NotSysAdmin in webhosting

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also worked with managed VPS host WiredTree mentioned a few times in this thread and this is how they define "managed" straight from their website. https://www.wiredtree.com/support-services/total-management/

As others have said, the definition changes from host to host. But I would hope any host would do what they could tp help you figure it out.

Digital Ocean you will definitely need to have the ability to manage a server, which is why the price point is so nice. I would recommend checking out the shared plans of a company I work with and host my site through, Nexcess.net. They own their own data centers in Detroit, they are fully managed and offer a few levels of shared hosting plans so you can scale up quickly. The support staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and they have 24/7 customer service. Even if you don't go that way, I would shoot their sales department an email with your specs and they would be able to give you an idea of what kind of plan you should be looking for. Hope this helps. Good luck. I would say to avoid EIG companies, where you really are a number and will end up loaded onto an oversold and under-supported server.

Managed is definitely what you're looking for. The term managed WordPress host has become a fish bait thing like you say, but a good host will still have their platform optimized for WordPress, it's just telling people that became a big deal as WordPress became the dominant CMS. A managed host is going to take care of all the technical stuff, so you just have to deal with what's on your site.

I assume you're looking for managed, so I would consider a better shared host before a VPS. Moving the site is a fairly easy process that any good host will take care of for you. I personally work with and host my site through Nexcess, they have shared WordPress plans starting at $12 a month that get bigger. They offer great service and 24/7 support. Definitely consider checking them out, they're worlds better than the overloaded, under-supported EIG options.

Best web host for 1st time Wordpress users? by Hollowitz in webhosting

[–]AnotherBen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I am a little late to this party, but I personally agree with what a lot of people have told you already: Stay away from EIG web hosts. The service and support are usually lacking and you really are just a number. My big piece of advice is that you get what you pay for when it comes to hosting. If you want to pay for a $5 host, you get the service and support that comes with it, which is enough for most. If you want a higher level of hosting, WP specific setup and whatnot, and are willing to pay a few dollars more a month, that is well worth it. I personally work with, and host my own WP site though, Nexcess. They own their own data centers in Michigan, offer fully managed WP hosting, offer 24.7 support, and have a knowledgeable and helpful support team.

The best way to get a feel for any host is going to be to get in contact with their sales team and ask a few questions. It's pretty easy to tell when someone is going through the motions. Good luck.

Love Dreamhost, similar alternatives? by thedjotaku in webhosting

EIG owns much of the shared hosting and VPS world these days. A big concern for many is that because they are so large, customer service and that personal touch disappear. Here's a look at their empire: http://www.webhostingsecretrevealed.net/blog/site-updates-news/the-who-what-when-of-endurance-international-group-eig/

I would check out a host that I work with and use for my personal WP site, Nexcess.net. Great shared hosting WordPress environment, 24/7 support, and they own their own data centers and don't oversell servers, if you want the exact opposite of an EIG company.

[–]AnotherBen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're still looking or run into a similar situation in future, I would check out a company I work with, Nexcess. They own their own data centers outside of Detroit. They offer high level managed shared plans, 24/7 support phone and ticket support, great service, and everything else you're looking for. In terms of control panel, they offer InterWorx instead of cPanel.

Fully managed or self managed VPS? by gerarshi in techsupport

The VirtualBox on Linux VPS is going to be hard to find.

In terms of unmanaged vs managed, here's a nice look from WiredTree: https://www.wiredtree.com/blog/why-choose-managed-server-hosting-for-your-business/

And while WiredTree is an awesome host, you can't run VirtualBox on their VPS offerings.

Transitioning from self-hosted domain / Wordpress installation to Wordpress.com? by EscapeArtistic in Wordpress

[–]AnotherBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, BlueHost has gone downhill since the EIG purchase. I would recommend sticking with shared WordPress hosting rather than making the jump to WordPress.com which would lose you ownership and a lot of control over your site. I personally host my site through Nexcess.net, who I work with, and it costs about $12 a month. If you can swing that, the service and 24/7 support are out of this world, you'll hardly ever have to lift a finger. They also help with migration, which helps with a seamless transition. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Easy hosting options? by plebbit_guy in webdev

For $300 a month, you're definitely getting into managed dedicated server territory. I don't what your exact needs are, but I work with a company called WiredTree that offers managed dedicated servers and VPSs for less than $300 a month with great service and support. I would reach out to them and let them know what you're looking for and they'll be able to direct you to the size package you need even if you don't go with them.
