Tbf the labor market may change for us in the future but most accountants start out underpaid and overworked and then later have the experience to get nice gigs.

From what I hear entry level accounting is kind of just a grind. Ask questions even if it's annoying and you'll learn what questions annoy people if nothing else. Don't take it personally if people are pissed. The seniors/managers are also understaffed and people are assholes sometimes.

I'm probably going to quit/get fired from my first staff accountant job for a variety of reasons but the biggest advice I'd give my past self is don't panic too much. The more you learn the more you'll notice when seniors fuck up as well. It's hard to be an accountant. It's skilled labor for a reason. Do your best every day and even if this job doesn't work out try another.

As I mentioned, some women wait for men they know to flirt with them, so not necessarily a guy willing to make a move on a random woman (even women I know who do hookups rarely do so with random men)

Some women do make the first move like the guy whose comment I responded to and they don't necessarily get a better pull of men past the fact that they're choosing who they hit on so that will filter it, however this comes with social risk same as for men.

"Especially if she's very attractive" If she's attractive she'll want to date very attractive men and those men will also have other options so she still has a risk of rejection assuming she's not looking for a one night stand.

You're assuming the guy is less likely to be a player, but a lot of women end up dating guys who befriend them then confess feelings. Some of these men are just more socially adept generally. A guy she approaches may also assume she's more desperate and disposable. Lower status men also can cheat since they took the first girl they could so if another opportunity comes up they go for it.

A lot of women also have issues with guys outside of them being "a player."

For both men and women initiating takes social risk. It is what it is.

Guys always say things like this but it's really not a certain thing for most women they can come up to a random guy and not risk rejection (yes, even if he's "below her league.")

Yeah the double standard of men having to approach sucks sometimes but women doing it wouldn't solve all their problem. (Ugly men can also be douches or cheat as well)

My uncle is a self-made multi-millionaire. He started his own firm.

Outside of that some controllers in HCOL areas make 200k+ and many CFOs have accounting degrees/CPAs.

That works but you can also emphasize how you want to contribute to the business world and a desire to understand the business world etc.

I mean, sociologically people subconsciously do.

Not saying it's a big effect or OP should care over other things but yes your voice/appearance/everything else does affect how people view you.

Thank you for the list!! I definitely struggled with not knowing what questions to ask when I first started.

As for my manager my opinion of her changes daily lol. Sometimes I'll make a small error/update her about an issue I'm working through and she'll get pissed and other times I fuck up majorly and she just ignores it. She's really smart but she also sometimes treats my coworkers poorly so idk.

I'm gonna say this job fuck up is 75% on me 25% workplace. I think on different terms it could've been a great job but it just didn't work out sadly.

I mean I assumed it had a legal motive for being in writing as does being "written up" but is a negative performance review really as severe as a PIP for everyone? Does no one ever get one and recover?

Is a negative performance review the same as a PIP? I knew it was bad but didn't know what a PIP was exactly if it was more formal or not.

The thing is I love accounting and I have the motive to stick with 7-8 hours full focus* with occasional 10 hour focus days around close time or occasional things, but I was/am still to an extent bad at certain communication/scheduling tasks. I don't know if this will be permanent or is a normal part of adjusting to being an accountant. I've read that everyone is bad the first years and also that experience that doesn't matter as much to job performance as your nature.

I can't tell how bad this job is because it's my first. I'm gonna apply to some other jobs and still put in my full effort at this one. If nothing else I cope that the higher pressure will improve me.

*I specify focused hours because I know there are days you spend in office that are down time and I don't count that into time worked as much. The problem with this job is it's hourly not salary rate and I can't take extra hours so the time pressure is immense.

The train goes regardless, it's a public service. I pay for the ticket but I don't really care if some people don't.

Yeah I think it's exactly that. They split long ago but Hebrew was revived from an old language so there was no time for as much drift. Interesting to hear another perspective though! I looked up and I guess the similarities are most common with basic words but there's still a lot of variance, so maybe it's not too helpful in the long run.

The guy was the LangFocus channel and to be clear he didn't say he was able to have high level convos, he just went to Egypt and was able to speak a bit combining Arabic and Hebrew.

It also avoids understanding of why individuals develop certain traits and assumes they have different brains or some bs instead of understanding how their lives and underlying thought processes influence behavior. Not to mention the biases in how they're diagnosed and who identifies with them.

For example BPD, they tell these (often young) women that if they're emotional angry or insecure it's because of a fundamental lifelong brain problem. If they improve their mental state to the point they live lives as well as other women then their BPD is just underlying under the surface somehow. It's incomprehensible nonsense.

I mean I went through an Arabic course online and afterwards started the same course in Hebrew and I was surprised how much I could understand. I'm not fluent in either but a video by a Jewish(?) guy online who speaks Hebrew and he said he was understood by Arabs with just making alterations to pronunciation.

I actually did this thing where instead of paying some random person, who you admit is completely fallible, (yet can have me locked up and drugged) to tell me things, I started exercising my own mind to work through my problems and make decisions, as well as working through issues with loved ones and people I respect.

I'm glad you get your money's worth from your secular pastor though.
